Great location. Mediocre hotel

Reviewed By LongReefHacker

Lake Jindabyne Hotel has a prime lake front position with superb views. It's close to the newer shopping centre of Jindabyne. That is far and away the best thing about this property. The room I had was tired and badly needed renovation. It was cramped with a queen sized bed and a double bunk, even though I was a single traveller. The bathroom was so cramped I had to stand in the shower stall to close the door. It had a toilet and a shower stall but no basin. That was outside, on the other side of the door to the room, in an area that had to double as a wash basin and a kitchenette. Probably not the most hygienic arrangement! Most Australian hotels/motels provide soap, shampoo, hair conditioner and sometimes body lotion in their bathroom. This hotel provided soap only. Even though I stayed for several days, the house-keeping was lax. It was clear that the floors were not vacuumed on most days I was there. The bed was not made. The covers were just pulled up. One morning I woke to find a small dead spider in my bed. I had probably rolled on it and crushed it. I left the bedclothes pulled back so the spider was in plain view. That night when I puled the bedclothes back, the spider was still there. If you want any help on issues like this from the front desk, you need to act before 3pm each day. The front desk is closed from that time onward. Brteakfast was buffet style but again was mediocre. CXhoice of fruit juices was limited to apple or orange. Cereals were limited to 4 or 5 of the most common mass produced (probably Kelloggs) types. Bacon was overcooked, left in serving receptacles for too long and ended up floating in fat. Eggs were available poached only and were served floating in warm water, so they kept cooking until they were hard. Toast was 'serve yourself' and there were long queues to get to the two toasters available, both of which were slow. The most tolerable part of breakfast were the mushrooms which were cooked just nicely. When I next visit Jindabyne, this place will be on my 'do not use' list.

Discovery Parks - Jindabyne

Did you know that Lake Jindabyne is half the size of Sydney Harbour? Discovery Parks - Jindabyne overlooks this gorgeous lake in the NSW Snowy Mountains, a year-round adventure destination. Thirty minutes from your caravan park and you’ve arrived in the alpine country ski slopes in winter. Summer’s the time for mountain biking, white-water rafting, horse-riding and bushwalking. Take a mountain drive to local wineries, restaurants and galleries. Explore Mount Kosciuszko National Park by foot, horseback, canoe, car, mountain or trail-bike. Marvel at the 440 million year old stalagmites and stalactites of Yarrangobilly Caves or take a dip in the thermal pool, constantly at 27 degrees.

Flooding and high lake levels causing issues

Reviewed By PJay2412

If you are going to book a cabin here I suggest you request one of the new modern versions. The older ones are really terrible; so bad in fact I think the reason for maintaining them in a fit state has passed. They must be due for the tip. Clearly preoccupied with their flooding issues and super high lake levels has meant they’ve lost the lawn mower and the whipper sniper. The general grounds just look crook. I’d wait a few months and give them a chance to sort out their problems because it could be a really lovely place to stay. It’s got potential. We’ve stayed before and loved it.

Brenda, Lee and their team provide a ‘home away from home’ welcoming. They’re full of kindness and nothing is too much to ask. The rooms are very clean and tidy. Linen and towels are fresh every day. There is shared showers - womens side and mens side - though we did not experience any delay in gaining access to such amenities. There’s a seperate ‘den style’ room where you can prepare your own food if necessary. It also has coffee etc facilities. The premises are just a short walk from hotels and restaurants and rates are exceptional in value and far less expensive than Perisher which is only 30 minutes travel by car.

Very nice hotel, extremely conveniently located near plenty of restaurants, pub, and shops. Big rooms (we had a family sized suite with kitchen). Old-ish but very clean and well maintained. Good value for the tariff. Plenty of hot water and towels. We loved it except the bed was too hard: the same as most hotel beds.

Avoid even if it's the last room left in town

A $999 credit note from the 2020 COVID lockdown could not secure 1 night in this hotel. The manager refused to honor the 1-night contract, insisting I pay an extra $150 for a two-night stay I did not need. To add to my frustration 2 nights were selling on 3rd party booking sites for much less than $999 which she refused to match. The manager was rude and inflexible and in the end I felt so negative about the experience I gave up. Avoid this place even if it's the last room left in town.

I had booked accommodation - River Inn - and didnt know that it was connected with Ozsnow until I had to cancel my booking due to Covid19. It took 3 emails and one phone call to get information on how to request a refund/credit note. Then I was told it was not possible, even though NSW numbers of Covid have skyrocketed, as Covid situation was the same as when I booked the accommodation. I had flights/other accommodation and bus trip all booked and they all refunded without question. Appalling customer service and appalling business sense. Please do not book with this company.

My family if 4 stayed here for the first time for 1 night after Perisher. We were really pleased with the room (clean and spacious for the 4 of us) and the service (dinner and breakfast included). With the lockdowns happening it was really quiet but I could tell that this place would be really packed otherwise. With such value for money, look no further. Would we go back? Hell yes!
