Old fashioned beauty, bad service

Reviewed By ronaldb416

We had a comfortable nice furnished room. But the hotel service is poor. The receptionist continued eating while she helped us and was not very attentive. We wanted coffee in the bar but had to wait because one servant walked away and the other cleaned the toilets. When he came back he prepared our coffee, but did not wash his hands before. The breakfast was poor and bad organised. Coffee was horrible and overcooked. When we asked for cappuccino it was served with clotted cream from an aerosol.

Cozy hotel with very friendly staff

Reviewed By claessonstravel

Hubby and I stayed in this hotel. The receptionist was REALLY friendly upon entry. We were checked in fairly quickly. One can park outside the hotel (plenty free parking there)-no private though. The hotel has a restaurant which one could eat breakfast, lunch etc. The room was very clean. Handicap accessible and friendly. There is an elevator. We hadnt paid for breakfast in our package as one could eat as the locals do (which we love doing). There are restaurants near the hotel that serve the local spanish breakfast. Internet was good. Great location. We had a view of the street. Beds were very comfortable. Very short but pleasant stay. Have a question? Just ask them at reception. They seem so happy to help and guide us around their beautiful city. HIGHLY recommend this hotel if you e in Guadix. Thank you Hotel Mari Carmen! :)

Booked one night here on our way home. Wish we hadn’t. Room was not very clean and very tired. Tiny TV and poor bedding. Claims itself as a four star but not sure how. Is adjacent to a large cafe frequented by drivers. A large hotel that has seen better days.

Just passing through and found via booking.com. Situated right next to Repsol station (don’t be put off by that) and close to a selection of bars and restaurants. Room was spacious, clean and reasonably modern. Staff very helpful and free parking just outside reception. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

Enjoyed our stay

Reviewed By 235andreb

We stayed a night here in July when it was 30+ dog outside and it was lovely and cool inside. The pool area was very quite and needs a bit of repair. The food at the restaurant was nice and local food presented was really good and good value. A lot of locals were eating there also. The staff are nice and were patient with my pigeon Spanish. The cathedral area was really nice and the town is off the beaten track I felt for main stream tourists. The area is worth a visit.

Hotel YIT Abentofail

Hotel Abentofail is named after Ibn Tufail, the great Andalusian philosopher, doctor, mathematician, poet and author of the first novel ever, "The Self-Taught Philosopher”. It is located in the heart of Guadix, one of the earliest human settlements in the Iberian Peninsula, few meters from its cathedral. The historical and natural surroundings of the hotel are unparalleled – we are less than an hour from The Alhambra and Granada and very close to the Nature Park Cabo de Gata – Nijar and the Almeria beaches. The hotel has 30 renovated, comfortable rooms distributed on 2 floors and decorated in different styles, giving our facilities a unique and defined personality. In each room, recycled woods from Indonesia, the best wrought-iron work and noble materials have been used. Of course, the typical central patio crowned with its characteristic fountain could not be missing in our hotel; the perfect place to relax accompanied by quiet music and a perfect atmosphere. The strategic location of the region of Guadix makes it an ideal place for excursions to many spectacular nearby areas. The city of Granada is only 60 km away and in less than an hour the monumental city of The Alhambra can be reached either by public or private means of transport, frequent train and bus service is available at all times. At 30 km distance from Granada is the well-known skiing resort of Sierra Nevada, among those most important in Spain. The beaches of Almeria and the Nature Park Sierra de Gata - Nijar are only 120 km away with easy motorway access (public and private transport) as well as by train. For arrivals after 22.00 please contact the hotel.

Fabulous hotel

Reviewed By Rattters

Stayed 2 nights to tour Guadix and The Badlands. Staff very helpful. Hotel overall is beautiful and a welcome drink in the small snug was great. We stayed half board , whilst there wasn't a lot of choice the food was lovely. The room was lovely, and had a lovely view, but was let down by the awful smell coming from the drains/sinks, but that got better the more we used them. I would also recommend the hotel look into getting a brighter light in the entrance/wardrobe area- you just can't see a thing when trying to sort your clothes out! That being said- I would definitely stay here again.
