10 Top-Rated Hotels in Freeport, Maine

July 8, 2022 Jana Sager

Local legend claims that Freeport was the birthplace of Maine, the decision to separate from Massachusetts having been made in a local tavern way back in 1789. Whether this is truth or folklore, Freeport has much more to offer, including South Freeport, a historic harbourfront village offering up a fresh catch every day. Nearby Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park and the Mast Landing Audubon Sanctuary provide nature trails with scenic views of the Atlantic Ocean over the rocky shores of Maine.

Beautiful room wonderful hosts and delicious breakfast!

I loved my room (7) on the third floor. It had a king sized bed, a loveseat and table and large bathroom. There were even mystery books to read if I chose to! Two windows looked onto the street below, and the room had its own thermostat, which I used to warm up after chilly sunrise photo shoots of the beautiful coastal lighthouses and rocky coasts! This room felt like my own personal treehouse! Mark & Nancy were charming and entertaining hosts. Nancy is an amazing creator of the finest breakfast creations! I looked forward to a three-course breakfast every day! I would definitely stay there again and recommend them to my friends and family!

A solid choice for staying in Freeport

We stayed 2 nights on our way up to Acadia. Great location for Freeport, located close enough to walk to anywhere in town, with a large parking lot across the street from the Hotel. The bed quality, cleanliness of room and front desk customer service were all excellent and up to Hilton Brand levels. The "rain fall" shower head in the bathroom (we were in a Deluxe Suite, not sure if all rooms have them) was a little underwhelming in terms of water volume but nothing to take points away from them for. I believe the website said the pool was "heated" which it decided was not, although there was also a Hot Tub with the Indoor Pool, which provided a nice soak after walking all day. The place is decidedly affordable, even the upgraded suite was under $200 a night including all fees and taxes.

Perfection in Every Way!

I've stayed at MANY B&Bs and inns and this was hands down the best experience I've had. It started with the warm welcome from Mary Ann and Bill and their ease of conversation--as if we were old friends rather than meeting for the first time. Although I had a very early wake-up my first morning there, Bill was willing to prep the coffee so we could have some before we left for the day. They were willing to figure out how to make an AMAZING vegan breakfast for me as well on my second morning. The room was neat & comfy with a clawfoot tub that was just the thing after a long day on my feet. The location is perfect as well. I cannot say enough great things about my stay. Will certainly be coming back and will recommend a stay to anyone (everyone) heading to Freeport.

We've stayed at airport hotels that are quieter. Upgraded to suite (sofa, table and chairs, fridge, no microwave ) -thank you. Gym and pool open, breakfast back to "normal" but less options. No covid safety measures in place in breakfast area. Generally clean but coffee machine in room was not attended to and had to ask for coffee and coffee cups at the desk. Clock in the room is impossible to set so left it unplugged like the other guests had left it. Restaurant options nearby include Thai, brewery (pizzas) and a BBQ. All within walking distance (5-7minites)

Minor Issues, Good Nights Rest

Reviewed By lovetravel2

This is not a top quality Comfort Suites, but it does offer a really good nights rest. It is quiet when we stayed and yes the hotel was full, not sure why the other reviews stated so much noise, I guess we just got lucky. The hotel is in a very good location, very close to the outlets and close to Portland. A few of the issues are pool is closed and looking at the other reviews it has been for a while. Are they ever going to open it back up? The breakfast area is not stocked very well. You have to sit and wait on them to fix the food, and then they only put out a few things at a time. The parking lot and front lobby is dirty, trash overflowing, cigarette butts everywhere. There is no housekeeping unless you schedule it at the front desk, but we had no issues getting fresh supplies at the front desk. One the plus side, customer service was outstanding, breakfast was really good for a hotel breakfast, location was excellent, and we had a good nights sleep every night we were there. Would we stay again, it is hard to say. I really like to have a pool when traveling, but if I couldnt find anything else for this same price, then yes I would stay again.

Great price for a comfortable stay, but SO many details overlooked that could make this hotel AMAZING.

Reviewed By figment79

My wife and I stayed at the Freeport Hotel in March 2022. We paid about $68 including tax through Priceline and for that price we would gladly stay here again. It was a very comfortable room and despite our room facing Route 1, we heard absolutely no traffic noise from outside. So huge props to whomever did the soundproofing that way, because it worked phenomenally. Unfortunately, the noise from the hallway was almost unbearable. Every time a door near our room opened or closed, it sounded like it was right in the middle of our room, disturbing our sleep. So maybe that’s something that could be addressed with soundproofing? The room was nicely appointed with a Keurig, fridge and microwave, nice hardwood furniture, and Paul Mitchell shampoo and conditioner (my wife’s favorite), so bonus points for those. And the heat worked VERY well on a rather cold, snowy night. In the bathroom, there were definitely some issues. Some of the plumbing under the sink was coming detached from the wall, there was a random screw hanging out of the wall next to the toilet paper roll holder, and the bottom of the shower curtain was this disgusting dark brown color. The water pressure in the shower wasn’t too great either, the water pretty much fell straight down instead of being projected out of the head at an angle, no matter how much we tried to angle the shower head. Again, should the need arise, we would gladly stay here for the price we paid, but perhaps some extra attention to “the little things” could be made to really make this place shine.

Outside quite shabby and dated. Smell of cig smoke outside rooms and since rooms are small, smell gets inside. To be fair, appeared clean inside. Refrig and microwave clean in room. Bed covering appeared fresh. 2 tv’s in room - go figure…. Breakfast meager at best.
