Excellent stopover on Eurovelo 6

Secure bike storage, clean rooms, very friendly and helpful receptionist at check in (afternoon of 15th May), water dispenser in reception… all making it great for a bike stopover. Very well located for a visit to citadel and for EV6 bike path too. Only downside was that the rooms are on the dark side at night - no central ceiling light.

View from the room (top floor) to the cathedral and down on the river was amazing. Excellent location to walk into the historic center or starting a walk along the river bank in either direction. Small but very comfortable room, clean and nicely renovated. Public parking nearby.

Hotel de Paris

In the 18th century this hotel used to be a coaching inn and it represents a History lesson in itself. It was called the “Hôtel de France” and became the “Hôtel de Paris” in 1855. It was the favourite address for a large number of learned persons from the higher realms of culture and politics. Even the stones have retained the memory of Prosper Mérimée who stayed here in 1836, of Jules Michelet the famous historian, and even of George Sand and Colette the unforgettable women writers. From this prestigious place the visitor can find the most remarkable monuments and museums. It is also the starting point for nice walks in the historical town centre, hemmed in by the loop of the river Doubs. The setting gives the feeling of a lively inhabited residence where spring generates a delicious woody smell, rising up from the two inner yards, with their totally safe car parks situated at the back of the buildings. On the shaded terrace the visitor enjoys a luxurious moment of calm and can have a quiet breakfast or relax after a busy day. The view on the roof tops and on the forts which surround the town is fascinating. The sun glows into the quiet yards where the fifty rooms have been totally restored to offer a special moment beyond time. With its contemporary and ancient styles which coexist in harmony, the hotel breathes a real atmosphere of serenity. One will appreciate the particular attention paid to the comfort of the bedrooms. The cosy lounges offer original spaces to rest and meditate and the fitness room is the good idea to keep up one’s form. Two well equipped rooms allow people to organize events and conferences in very good conditions. Thanks to the young and dynamic new owners with their good elegant taste, this “hotel de charme” has become a spirited place with its three star service. It is now a jewel in the heart of Besançon.

Do not stay here

Reviewed By drcjgoodis

Breakfast ends at 10:00. I came down at 9:50. At 9:59 the lady in charge of breakfast said I had one minute to finish. I said I will be done in 5 minutes. She said I had to leave right at 10:00 and stood over me. At exactly 10:00 because she was showing me her watch the whole time standing over me she took my coffee from me. This was the most bizarre experience I have ever encountered. The whole breakfast buffet was completely left out. She had plenty to do but she had to make sure I left exactly at 10:00. The front desk said that’s their policy. I travel a lot in Europe. Typical breakfast is 7 to 10. But even after 10 they clean everything up but they’ll let you sit there and finish your coffee and if you have a meeting with people they let you sit there and have your meeting. Just the most bizarre experience. I would not stay here.

Our stay in Pontarlier was short but very enjoyable. The hotel is relatively simple but comfortable and clean. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We ate at the nearby Buffalo Grill which was excellent, the staff there also went out of their way to help us (with our sadly lacking skills in French!!) Definately will stay there again Thanks (Shep says Woof!!!)

Now with a great restaurant!

Reviewed By TrudyundLilly

We come here for many yeas at least once a year for business/pleasure. To our great joy it now has its own restaurant. Ate lunch there and simply loved it! We were not as happy with our room this time though. We always book the same one facing a little courtyard, having a table and chairs to sit outside. Usually a quiet hotel we had the bad luck that a kind of family reunion was held there too. These people even turned the courtyard into a makeshift dining room and cooked (one of the rooms has a very small kitchen). That meant noise in the backyard until late in the night and small children playing foot ball in front of our sitting area. Had to use earplugs to sleep. Did mention it at reception for course. I does not hold us back from coming again. We already booked for December and hope that the hotel is the usual quiet and serene place again that we like so much.

Found this hotel, and what a find - it is off track and in a tiny village that seems to be lost in time. But as you turn into the chateau entrance it has a 'wow' factor. Our room was excellent, and the restaurant for evening meal was excellent. Breakfast was also lovely and set us up for our journey through the alps. We liked it so much, we have booked to stay on our way back next month.

Modern, compact, clean, convenient

Reviewed By Fiver21

A good choice for an overnight stay to discover this attractive, characterful, old town situated within a loop of the river Le Doubs. There is a choice of room sizes in this modern building to suit requirements - some for longer term residential rental. Ours was compact, but quite adequate, with a small kitchenette where we heated up an evening meal. The hotel offers breakfast but no other meals. Public parking close by is a challenge, so we used the hotel's secure underground car park for a charge of €15 per night. The bed was comfortable and with the windows shut the room was quiet, despite a tramway route outside. The staff were efficient and helpful, bringing down to us the remote control to exit the garage, which we had forgotten. The hotel is within walking distance of the town. We walked to the cathedral and on and up to the citadel at the far end, built by Vauban and with commanding views. The buildings in the old town impressed us with their style and architecture, all built with the same few shades of stone - very attractive. For a Sunday evening, the town was bustling. We enjoyed a drink on the square, overlooking the river, at tables all safely spaced.
