One of my favorite hotels

I stayed here for a long weekend, coming from New York. The hotel was fantastic. From the spa to the pool to the beach club, I loved it all. The lobby, rooms, and amenities are all spectacular. It truly felt like a luxurious home away from home. The cafe in the lobby is awesome for morning lattes, pastries, and a quick bite for lunch. The beach club was an incredible experience, do their beach restaurant for lunch or dinner, great cocktails and food. At the spa I had the best facial and massage ever. I can’t recommend this hotel enough. It was great.

Better than Vegas

Reviewed By becomingseven

We live outside of Vegas and both work in casinos. Normally when we want to get away we head down to one of the major casinos in Vegas. The end of May was Electric Daisy Carnival which is an insane time in our area. When my husband got home from work at 10 PM, he asked where I wanted to go. I said I wanted water and either to a lake in Utah or a beach in California. He said let's go to California. I hoped on bringfido.com to figure out who was pet friendly and also had pet rooms available that night. I then called and talked to Maddie and asked a few questions. All rooms are pet friendly. Because I work in reservations, I know that you often have to pay the night before to be guaranteed the room before the guaranteed check in time. We knew we wouldn't be arriving until 6 AM at the earliest. So we paid for the night before so we could go to our room as soon as we got there. I went to Best Western's website and saw that with a member reward account I would receive a savings. So I made a Best Western account and then booked our room, We had chosen a 2 room King suite. Due to traffic in Vegas from the music festival and then morning traffic in So. Cal, we actually didn't arrive until around 8 AM. Deano was at the front counter and was very helpful. He gave us a goodie bag with treats, water, and sunglasses. Let me tell you, our room was immaculate! When you walk up, there is actually a seal on the door you have to break that lets you know the room was cleaned. In the room there is info on the ways they are deep cleaning post covid. Our peek-a-boo view was awesome! The property is non-smoking. My husband is a smoker and found that they have to outdoor smoking areas. The breakfast buffet was perfect. I think the funnest thing was the automated pancake maker. You wave your hand in front of a sensor. It then drops two globs of dough on a conveyor belt that has a view window. It reminds me of an easy bake oven. When they are done they pop out on the side. We explored Dana Point, Huntington Beach Dog Beach, and Balboa Peninsula while we were there. I wish I could remember everyone else's names who helped us. I got names but it has been a few weeks and I am struggling to remember them. We both enjoyed the jetted tub. We spent time on the patio enjoying the views. There is a guest laundry room. We didn't use it as we were only there for 2 days. On the 3rd floor near the elevator is a seating area to visit with friends. There is also a little honor lending library of books in case you finished reading yours. There is a pool. We didn't visit it as we spent our time at nearby beaches. We went to the nearby grocery store to pick up snacks and beverages. The kitchenette was nice. There are a lot of nearby fast food options. I can tell you that Deano greeted me by name the second day. There was a nice lady at the front desk who gave us extra towels. (we had just got back from the beach and were heading to our room) The morning we left, another nice lady noticed Bebita (our chihuahua yorkie mix) and offered us a baggie of dog bones for the road. The TV was never turned on during our stay. In fact the remotes were still in their wrappers. I just can not say enough wonderful things about our stay. It was a much needed break and a nice change from the desert.

Staff is spectacular. Very attentive, helpful and genuinely nice people who seem to enjoy their job and are invested in making guests happy. Need towels at the jacuzzi? They’ll bring them to you. Need breakfast a little later? You can take anything still in the breakfast room. Sparkling clean. Even the patio furniture was clean. Not easy in the beach weather. My mother and I came on what we thought might be the last time we would come back to California. She had moved to Arkansas many years ago and I had left three years ago. My mother lived in Dana Point when I was a young child and wanted to find where we used to live and reminisce. We’ve had so much fun we decided to make a definitive plan to return. There are many beachfront hotels, but we love this boutique inn and will be coming back soon.

GREAT! Just FYI on one thing....

This property is great! Beautiful views! Very attentive and friendly/helpful staff. Brad in valet, Abby and Robert (kids pool wait staff), Jen (kids activities), Chris (front desk) Vienna (server) were all top notch! FYI: We will stay here again BUT I will bring ear plugs. If you are a light-ish sleeper like me just know that the building overlooking the kids pool (we were on the second floor on the west side) has VERY POOR sound proofing. You can hear everything - noise next door - complete conversations, all water loudly (sink running, toilet and shower), water dripping from AC, hallway noise and pool activity. You can hear it very clearly. I am a light sleeper and did not sleep much on this trip. Kids were in the pool at 8 AM on Saturday morning. It was wonderful that they were having rambunctious fun but you could hear it all in our room (slider locked and curtains drawn). In any other case this would bring down my review. This is a high end hotel and recently renovated. The sliders at lease should have better sound proofing. However, our overall experience and the awesomeness of the staff keeps it at 5 stars.

My wife and I are avid travelers and decided to visit the Ritz-Carlton in Laguna Niguel in the hopes of identifying a new hotel chain that would provide us an un-paralleled experience. Unfortunately, our one night at the Ritz-Carlton fell short in many ways of this experience. The valet area was chaotic and disorganized. We watched two vehicles that came after us get served first, presumably because both drivers were white females, of which my wife and I are not. We were additionally required to handle our own luggage where the other two vehicles were receiving prompt attention and service. At the time of booking, I had requested online check-in through digital keys and early check-in. I called the front desk hours after the early check-in time to inquire the state of the room and was informed it was ready but we’d have to visit the front desk. This defeated the entire purpose of an efficient and seamless check-in. We ended up waiting 20 minutes to check in, and once we made it to the front of the line, the attendant had the audacity to tell us we were upgraded to the very class of room we had reserved and paid for at booking. The hotel furnishings were worn, filthy, and dated. The carpet in the room appeared to have been the original that Frank Sinatra walked on when he lasted stayed at this establishment. Furniture in the common areas were mis-matched, stained, and wall art appeared to have been purchased from an Ikea outlet store. Our provided accommodations further reinforced our negative experience. Of note, the French doors were warped and did not close, letting who knows what crawl into the room from outside. What’s worse, our balcony was adjacent to an outdoor restaurant blaring loud music and low-budget artists wailing for hours on end. We were unable to enjoy our ocean view or even have a moment’s peace in our room because of this. The trim throughout the hotel, especially in our room, needs to be replaced. It is obvious it has been painted over a dozen times. For a hotel which was supposedly remodeled in 2021, we did not see a single update or maintenance task which was more than an attempt to cover up filth and disrepair. When attempting to use the valet service we were given a Tesla, even though we provided our claim ticket and told the attendant twice we had a black Mercedes-Benz when asked. Further, we were repeatedly asked if we were checking out, which should be a telling sign as we just arrived an hour before. This entire experience was less than lackluster. It was disappointing and upsetting. Were it not for the ocean view, which is not unique to the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel, the entire experience would have been an absolute waste of time and money.

Not the most luxurious accommodations, but I knew what to expect. A dated gem. I came here specifically to enjoy the affordable nostalgia (of my hometown hotel) before it is torn down and becomes just another Southern California upgrade that common folk cannot afford. I am sad but my stay was great. The rooms are spacious and clean. The staff was friendly enough. The breakfast was ok. But the location(!) is golden. Plenty of walking areas, bike rental nearby, DP harbor just steps away, restaurants, shopping, beaches...the sound of seals and seagulls...I wish I had time for the pool and jacuzzi!... It was a restful stay indeed.
