This was a large room on a freezing two night stay. The meal option wasn’t available so we raided our plan B reserves as the motel is quite a way from the town. It was a large room to heat on arrival. Parking ,as we were notified , is tight. The room had all we needed including a portable hot plate. The landscaped areas for a family were green and well kept.

Terrible night trying to sleep

Having a microwave was useful, but lumpy pillows, bumpy beds & lots of weird plumbing noises as will as traffic noise made it hard to sleep. The bathroom smelt like a sewer. Really yukky. Never again.

The motel is close to highway, but we did not hear much traffic noise. Great place to stay, highly recommend.

Bathroom badly lets them down

Reviewed By Kerry C

The bathroom at this motel lets them down - it is mouldy and the toilet cistern was running constantly. We had to resort to turning the water to the cistern off as it was draining the cistern which meant there was no water to flush! The mould is so bad that there is a very distinct smell which was concerning health wise. The bedroom area was quite okay and looked to have been recently renovated (by that I mean sometime in the last couple of years) but it was clean and the bed was comfortable. Walls are very thin so you can hear your neighbours very distinctly and the traffic noise (especially from trucks) was quite loud. There webiste states there is a onsite restaurant but there was no evidence of this - given that it is a little way out of town we had hoped to be able to either dine in or have room service so it was a little disappointing that it was not mentioned on their website that it is currently not operating.

Gave it 1 star because it wouldn't let me rate it zero stars

We have dined at this Pub on numerous occasions over the years on our way to Victoria and back up to Queensland. The Pub looked a bit run down back then but the food was always meeting pub food expectations. However last night was by far the worst food we have ever eaten there. Everything is cooked from frozen and nothing is freshly made. We ordered the garlic bread ($7.00) which was actually the best thing out of the whole dinner! One of my kids ordered the pizza ($10) which came with cold soggy chips and burned bread with tons of greasy cheese slapped on top. My other child ordered the fish and chips ($10) which also came along with soggy chips and no dipping sauce. The serves were very small and not only looked unappealing but tasted disgusting too! My husband ordered the spare pork ribs ($28.00) which also came with soggy cold chips and reheated (barely) frozen veggies. As for me, I ordered the veggie stack ($22.00) which was just that... veggies stacked on top of each other and held together with a skewer. Some luke warm suggo sauce had been poured all over it. The sauce hadn't even been cooked, it had just been poured out of a jar. The veggies were a couple of large green capsicum pieces which had been barely chargrilled (not peeled), 2 large mushrooms, a few zucchini slices and a few eggplant slices. This not so devine dining experience set me back $77.00 and I was not happy. Being a hospitality worker myself, I know first hand how tough Covid19 has been and still is for the hospitality and tourism sector and everyone is trying to make a dollar by saving a bit on cost and labour but come on... this is so unfair to the diners who come to support your business. Coonabarabran is a transit town for a lot of tired and hungry travelers, lift your game! I would rather spend my hard earned cash elsewhere!

The Old Schoolhouse was originally built for the owners' children to attend correspondence school, but has since been transformed into self-catered accommodation with kitchenette and bathroom. The Old Schoolhouse sleeps up to 6 guests and is pet friendly. Experience the enchanting octagonal "fairy tale castle", hand-crafted from local timbers. Relax and enjoy the beautiful views from the large, Swiss-style balcony, and take a shower in a hand-sculpted masterpiece! There is also an in-ground swimming pool for keeping cool during the summer and a gas heater and electric blankets for staying warm and cosy in the winter. We have also recently installed a reverse cycle air-conditioner. The bedding configuration is a loft bedroom upstairs with a double bed and two double bunks downstairs. Sleeps up to eight people. The Old Schoolhouse has a small kitchen with a mini fridge and gas stove/grill if you would like to bring your own food. There is also a bbq area on the lower level with a lovely outdoor dining area. Otherwise, we are happy to cater for all or some of your meals in our nearby Blue Wren Café, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as espresso coffee, milkshakes, scones and homemade cakes throughout the day.

Last minute decision to camp overnight. Loved that everywhere we looked there was artwork and cool things to catch your eye. Loved playing volley ball with the staff and other campers, feeding the animals was a hit. Cafe food was delicious! Campground was well maintained and shower was great ! Looking forward to returning to do the bushwalks around the property & make some pottery of our own.
