Cozy cabin

Reviewed By 645raymondc

Cabin #10 needs a new floor. The carpet was filthy. Ths studio lacked comfortable seating to enjoy the fireplace and the TV. The lock to this room was unsafe. There was a hot tub in this unit with room for 1. I’d consider removing this tub to make room for comfortable chairs, This place has lots of potential but requires some TLC and attention to details. Owners should stay in the room to know this for themselves.

Dirty / Dated & Broken

Reviewed By Grayzone65

Facility is dated and dirty & broken. On day one I was initially checked into a room that had Not been cleaned. Went back down to desk to ask for a clean room and was assigned a room With-out any windows just a door to a outside hallway that was filthy. The room was dark and smelled damp like an old basement bedroom I had as a child. Damage to walls and bathroom vanity. After asking multiple times I was re-assigned on day two to a room also with damage to walls and vanity but this at least had a window. It also had ANTS coming out of the closest and hot water stopped working midday. The ceiling had filth on it where the air conditioner vent was blowing. One of two washing machines out of order and breakfast Burrito and coffee for $22.00 that was cold and lacked flavor. 2 stars are for location in the village otherwise this place is a dump. Stay away!

Sierra Blue Suites

So comfortable! Love this place!

Reviewed By L6731XSrachelc

My husband & I are backpacking the PCT and our stay at Sierra Blue Suites was amazing! The beds and bedding were so nice - soft clean white duvet covers on warm down (?) comforters with big soft fluffy throw blankets too. No scary polyester hotel bedspreads! It still has a rustic feel that we liked - it’s not “Ritz Carlton” fancy, it’s “fabulous upscale cabin” fancy. They are remodeling the outside right now but the rooms are all completed - stylish and comfy! Cute retro-looking microwave and mini fridge/freezer that works better than a normal hotel model. Keurig coffee maker and pods too. My husband loved the giant smart TV and being able to log into his Netflix etc accounts and watch whatever he wants. He said most hotels don’t have the internet bandwidth for a smart TV to work well, which has meant a grumpy husband at times on our trip. He said this place has it set up right, with dedicated TV internet separate from the guest & staff wi-fi options. So if TV is important to you or your family, this place will make you happy ;) We picked a large room (premium studio suite) with two queen beds, a couch and dining table. Faux fur rug on the wood floor was so soft! Bathroom has pump bottles of nice soap/shampoo/lotion/conditioner from a local company. No tiny plastic trash or cheap hotel soap! The owners/employees were helpful and accommodating and we liked the contactless SMS texting for anything we needed. This place was really hiker friendly, even though it is more of a luxury feel, and the price was less than what many of the resort hotels were asking. We loved it and would definitely stay there again!

Oak Knoll Lodge

Come and have a memorable experience here in Big Bear Lake, California! Oak Knoll Lodge boasts a long and interesting past. Ideally located, Oak Knoll was the first Lodge that travelers would encounter as they drove into Big Bear Valley from Mill Creek Road, the main road into Big Bear (then known as Pine Knot) at the time. OKL is ideally located just steps away from the National Forest with plenty of sledding and hiking available. Most of the cabins still standing were constructed during the 1920s. All cabins have free WiFi and parking, along with their own full individual kitchen! OKL was just recently taken over by new ownership. Design & Fabricator Lindsey Kurowski purchased the lodge in 2019. She is currently in process of renovating all 12 cabins. Her renovation project caught the attention of Chip and Joanna Gaines & now you will be able to check out the renovation on her new show Inn The Works on the Magnolia Network. We are so proud to share this place with you and our story. All the cabins have been recently updated but still have the same old charm that OKL is known for. Come check us out!

Cabin #2. good location / weird experience

Reviewed By Merlekins

Disclaimer: We were booked into this cabin by the surprise travel agency "Pack Up & Go" so we had no expectations, since we didn't even know we would be staying here. That being said, that travel agency did give us exactly what we said we preferred -- a property away from the crowds, in a natural setting, near outdoor activities. However, the national forest was closed due to wildfire concerns, so all of our planned hiking was squashed and we ended up going in to town more than we had expected. This property is perfectly situated for forest activities, though, and I guess for snow activities, too, which we don't do. So yeah, Covid, I get it -- the front office was "contactless" and they had phone numbers posted if we needed anything. We never called the phone numbers, so I can't speak to whether the staff was helpful. We had never visited this area; we usually rely on lodging staff to give recommendations etc so the lack of staff was unnerving. Were they on-site? do they live there? were they watching us? It just felt creepy to not have any staff in sight. The lobby looked cozy and nicely renovated, but not available to guests. There was nobody else staying here, until on Saturday we think another cabin checked in. Our room was not serviced during our stay but IDK if it was supposed to be. Our cabin looked like it had been recently renovated, but maybe 80% completion -- mildly dirty, blinds that didn't fit or not installed correctly, fixtures that were definitely decades old. We never did get the gas fireplace to work, and there didn't seem to be working heat in the cabin. Luckily it was not cold in mid-September, or we definitely would have called about the heat. Jacuzzi did work and we liked that. Hot water was abundant. We liked having a full kitchen and fridge -- great convenience if you didn't want to go in to town and stay focused on the forest. We liked the location and the cabin #2 was fine for our brief stay. It was a unique experience. Had I booked lodging myself, not sure I would have chosen this place. I did look at their website to compare photos to actual, and I would say buyer beware on this one.

Noon Lodge at Mallard Bay

We found a historic mountain retreat built in the early 1950s. We breathed new life into the property, combining vintage charm with modern design. Noon Lodge at Mallard Bay strikes that perfect balance between smart clean design and rustic outdoor charm. This endearing getaway harkens back to a bygone era of exploring mountain trails, cannonballs into a lake, laughing around a campfire, and gazing at stars. Our boutique lakefront lodge is located on a quiet residential street just 1.3 miles from Big Bear Lake village center's restaurants, shops, and activities.

Not worth it

Reviewed By meaw_chick

Noon Lodge is one of a kind hospitality in Big Bear. We stayed at cabin 5 which is a duplex that shares wall with cabin 6. It's an old building therefore we could hear everything through the wall. The unit has kitchen with a full size fridge and small dirty microwave that has never been cleaned inside. The shower drain in both bathrooms had hair from previous guest which tell me that it has not been cleaned properly. The windows and blinds had a thick layer of dust on them. The only positive thing is they have comfortable bedding including nice pillow and soft comforter to keep you warm on a cold night. The grounds/ outside are nice and clean with plenty of chairs to sit. No pool and hot tub access at the time we were there (late October). Strong wifi signal throughout property. They charge extra $30 for cleaning fee and you must put away all dishes including take out the trash when you check out. We paid almost $300 a night but did not get to enjoy the full value. Parking spot is available but the space is tiny. They definitely need to improve on the cleanliness and cabin needs a lot of update especially the shower in both bathrooms were so gross.

Filthy!

Old food in the cupboards and microwave, greasy floor. No paper towels or kitchen towels. Floor hadn’t been cleaned and was slippery from the grease. Why pay a cleaning fee when it isn’t clean? Was there as part of a weekend retreat. When we booked the place the previous owners kept things up, but the new owners don’t seem to care about clean or even minimal cleaning!

Beautiful and peaceful

Reviewed By AlmaAlun

I was concerned in the beginning because I booked the room in Booking and I was expecting a cabin. When I called to confirm my reservation was when I realized it was a regular room. When I got to the actual place with hopes down, it quickly became very excited and amazed because the room looks like a little cabin. It was very comfortable, with little table to cook, eat or anything else, coffee maker, little fridge, and a fireplace. It was amazing. It was super quite, relaxing, and peaceful. Was better than what I expected. It is pricey but worthy.
