Wonderful stay
Reviewed By W4896FRandreasdWe arrive in the late afternoon, after a long drive. It was raining heavily and we were mesmerized the moment we drove into the property. The gardens are beautiful. We were greeted promptly with umbrellas and showed into the main building. Check-in was very fast and everything explained, including the what we could do and see the next day. The luggage was promptly brought up to the rooms. We had two interconnected single room, each individually decorated in Art Deco style. This gave a special charm to the Hotel. We noticed the calm of the place, one only hears the birds singing. Fully functional bathrooms. There is a restaurant on-site, we had a delicious three course menu. Interesting combinations of ingredients. Breakfast was also delicious. Fresh pastry, eggs made as you wish. Then we were off to explore Saint-Jean. There is beautiful walk along the coast that leads to a beach with a nice botanical garden to explore. We also swam in the pool, which is heated. All in all a fantastic stay with a lotto discover. Everyone was very friendly.

Reviewed By 581z_fGreat place to stay with my dog as I was travelling. Was nice and well located with respect to the main roads. The room was spacious and the had loads of parking. The breakfast is quite good as well. But most fundamental for me was the fact that the hotel is pet friendly.

Reviewed By Christine BWe stayed in the delightful hotel on the sea at the end of a two week trip through France. Our seaside room on the second floor with a spacious balcony was ideal. We could sleep to the sound of gentle waves or have our coffee as saint jean de luz woke up. The front desk was helpful and the full buffet breakfast was delicious. It was a perfect way to wrap up our trip!

Not a Great Experience for Us
Reviewed By laughlovetravelwineMy stay here is probably against the norm but I wanted to share our experience. We were arriving in the evening and the owner provided us the door access code to get in as they do not have a 24 hour reception. This is more of a bed and breakfast than a hotel. On our way to Biarritz our car had a flat tire on the highway. So instead of arriving around 9pm, we ended up arriving at 1am via taxi. I wasn’t too concerned as we had the code to get in, but unexpectedly the gate to the property was locked! We searched and searched to see if the code actually accessed the gate, but it didn’t. I called the owner, but it was so late, so there was no answer. We were getting so desperate as it was so late at night that we started calling other hotels within walking distance. Fortunately, a group of party goers walked by and saw our predicament and somehow they were able to press a release button inside the gate lock and pry it open. Then we carried our suitcases up three flights of stairs to our room. We had requested an extra bed for our son, but there was none. Turns out the sofa is a bed but it wasn’t pulled out so my son ended up sleeping with us. Then we decided to shower as we had been at the beach earlier and there was no hot water. Apparently their hot water shuts off during the middle of the night. So, we had been almost locked out, didn’t have an extra bed and didn’t have any hot water. The next morning I spoke to the owner who was “nice”, but given what had just occurred didn’t even try to compensate a free night or anything or give us free breakfast for the rest of our stay. At the end, she even wanted to charge me for the extra bed our first night until I pointed it out to her that it wasn’t prepared for us. We stayed several nights and it was warm and it turns out that the AC in all the rooms was “under repair” so we had to leave our windows open. Let me tell you that Biarritz in August is packed and people are out partying until 2-3am and people start their business early. It was soooo loud every night and we were constantly woken up by motorcycles, talking, yelling and mopeds. The hotel itself is in a great location, but I wouldn’t stay here again. Too many negatives going for it.

Excellent Customer Service and a Great Hotel
Reviewed By Everywhere37We stayed at the Hotel Windsor in September for several nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our oceanview room provided plenty of entertainment watching the surfers and we loved the sound of crashing waves as the background sound. The breakfast buffet was expansive and excellent and the front desk staff was very helpful each day. After returning to the US with some small presents, including a wonderful Basque sauce that we found at the Biarritz market, we knew we needed more because it disappeared so quickly, I emailed the Windsor & sent a photo of the empty bottle and asked if it would be possible to get more shipped to us. Imagine our surprise and happiness when we received an immediate reply saying yes! Fast forward and within a very short time we received the sauce! We appreciate the excellent and efficient customer service from Sophie, who single-handedly took care of our unusual request. She saw this through from start to finish with a friendly touch and we're very grateful for her superb customer service! We can't wait to stay at the Windsor again and thank her in person.

Hotel wonderful, restaurant was not so wonderful
Reviewed By Chris SThe reception, the facilities, the staff, the location, the accommodation and overall quality were absolutely superb. The only complaint about the room is that it is a tad small! The restaurant just misses the mark. We had oysters, which were excellent. We had tuna which was also excellent, but the hake was very poor. The portion of fish was miniscule and it was served with a single slice of aubergine which was pretty much raw; it was impossible to cut. We told the waiter who did absolutely nothing about it. No apology was received and no attempt to put things right. The cheese was OK but, to be fair, it would be difficult to mess that up! It may sound churlish to complain about an aubergine but it was the biggest item on the plate! it formed a high proportion of the food we were offered. Everything was also served at breakneck speed and we certainly felt as though 8.30pm was too late for these guys. I would suggest staying but try to find an alternative restaurant. We just didn´t have time and we were very tired after travelling from St Malo.

Great spa hotel overlooking beautiful beach
Reviewed By VJM1960We really enjoyed our night here. Lovely bright room overlooking the beach. Wonderful uncrowned thalassotherapy spa and hamman. Generous breakfast and excellent service. What’s not to like? Hendaye is an interesting town, we were passing through and would have liked to explore more!
