10 Top-Rated Campgrounds in Midi-Pyrenees, Occitanie

April 25, 2023 Nobuko Falco

Stretching from the wooded Dordogne to the towering peaks of the Pyrenees, this vast region is a popular winter sports destination, but one without the hordes that besiege the Alps. Spring's melted snows lure kayakers and rafting enthusiasts. In summer, amateur and advanced hikers take to the hills.

4 stars? Like the petrol? It's a tip at top prices. Mossed over pitches. Flies. Where they get the back to nature idea from, who knows? Virtually impossible to park motor on pitch and the Tesla driving Dutch bag the 5 offcamp spaces. Add on screaming French kids, hysterical Dutch teenage girls and up their bum Brits why stay here? 30 euro a night and a band with the worst Franglais renditions of Brit tracks. Drive by, save a bomb and get a decent rest. Tomorrow my EU mates I've got my airhorn ready, stand by your pits for the shock of your holidays.

The river is ten minutes walk away which the the dog loved. The campsite was kept clean and tidy at all times the sanitary block was spotless and a place where you could enjoy a good HOT!!! shower yes I did say hot. Both the owners Christophe & Marie where more than willing to help with advice about the area and all the other staff never failed to greet you in a warm and friendly way. Hope you enjoy this site as much as we did Geoff/Denise & Archie

Perfect for St Cirq La Poppie

Stayed on this site in our motorhome and found it to be a great stop with friendly, helpful staff. English is spoken by some but not all. Unlike a lot of UK sites pitches aren't arranged in regimented rows and you more or less find a big enough space between the trees that suits and park up. There's plenty of shade to keep out of the hot summer sun which was an important consideration! Facilities were fine and there is a washing machine and tumble dryer available for a few Euros. They stock a few essentials for sale at reception, if you've forgotten/run out of something. There's a very good site bar/restaurant where the pizza's were fantastic. There is free wifi available in/near the restaurant. If you're in a motorhome the big draw is the free shuttle service to nearby St Cirq La Poppie. Whilst it is no doubt possible to get a motorhome in the village (after all the coaches manage it!), it's a whole lot easier to let someone else take you there! Would definitely stay there again if in the area.

A tranquil camping haven with integrity

Reviewed By Vicki R

The campsite is exceptionally well looked after by Stuart and Christine, as are all the guests. Our pitch was by the beautiful lake and it was wonderful and spacious. The campsite has a homely and welcoming feel, whilst still having pristine facilities. The toilets, showers and other sanitary facilities were the best we have seen in a campsite for a long time. Added to this is the personal touch of the owners, who are extremely generous with their time and advice to ensure you have a holiday to remember. A highlight for us was the communal dinner, where campers from across Europe sat down and Christine and Stuart fed us a wonderful local meal for an excellent price. Just thinking about it makes me want more aligot (very very cheesy mashed potato typical of Aveyron). If you are looking for a well kept campsite with scenic views and a personal touch, then look no further.

Perfect little site

Reviewed By Chuddyswim

Having spent the first week of our holiday on a huge/loud/buzzing campsite (which we loved) - this was a complete contrast, but perfect in every way. The accommodation was 1st class, very clean and quite a bit bigger than we were expecting. Our 10 year old loved being able to come and go as he pleased and he made lots of Spanish and French friends just by the power of Football :-). We loved the proximity to Luz and being on the doorstop to many world class cycling routes/Cols!! We treated ourselves to the Tyroline (which was expensive but sooo worth it) - we had the best day ever as had had a family ride up the Col de Tentes in the morning! We also loved the little artisan brewery Pays Toy - craft beers right up our street. Really hope we will return one day as a week wasnt long enough!
