Best Bed and Breakfast

Shirleys Bed and Breakfast is just wonderful. We enjoyed our second trip there this past week. Cheryl and Jeff are the best hosts. Their friendly, easygoing demeanor makes for a thoroughly enjoyable stay. They are so great about recommendations for restaurants and sites to see. The inn is quiet, clean, and beautifully decorated. We already made our reservation for next year.

Fantastic Hotel Hidden in Tiny Town

Reviewed By CalifornianFromSouth

Lexington, VA is a tiny, sleep town, so you don’t expect a world-class hotel to be there. But The Georges would be nice he place I would choose even if it were in London or Paris. This hotel is the epitome of hospitality. Everyone goes above and beyond to ensure that the guests are comfortable, the rooms are all unique; and all adorable. The included breakfast is worth the cost of a night’s stay just by itself. I visit Lexington regularly to see family there, and I schedule my trips to match availability at The Georges. I don’t stay anywhere else in Lexington.

Berkeley House Bed & Breakfast

Bonnie and Jeff moved in during November, 2013 and started renovations almost immediately. Their storied journey started in New Zealand and was highlighted in articles published by "The News Leader" newspaper and "Shenandoah Valley Living" Magazine. This magnificent Queen Anne is situated directly across the street from the birthplace of President Woodrow Wilson and was first occupied by R. H. Catlett and his family in 1896. Mr. Catlett worked at Virginia Military Institute for a number of years prior to the Civil War and was a close personal friend of Stonewall Jackson (a teacher at VMI). The Catlett family occupied the house for almost 77 years. Because the proprietors, Bonnie and Jeff, painstakingly restored this grand old lady and turned her into on of Staunton's best bed and breakfasts many historical details remain within its 8,000 square feet. The Berkeley House Bed & Breakfast is beautifully decorated for the period, but modern conveniences are available for your comfort.

Wonderful stay(s) at a gem of a B&B!

Reviewed By D5847GOandrewa

We decided to stay in Staunton, VA as a midway point on our drive from central NJ down to and back from a week long visit to Asheville, NC, and booked a room at the Berkeley House B&B on each end of the trip. What a wonderful experience! Our room was spacious and very comfortable, the expansive wrap-around porch a relaxing spot for our morning coffee, and Jeff's breakfasts were amazing! The inn is a short walk from the historic section of town, where we enjoyed delicious dinners both nights at Zynodoa and tasty draft beers at a couple of the local breweries. All in all, it was a most enjoyable visit--we're just sad that the Berkeley House B&B will be closing in July and won't be available for our planned return trip to Asheville in October.

A beautiful place

Reviewed By O2838QOcarolinec

We recently stayed at Orlesa Farms as part of a group for business. The hosts were welcoming, kind and patient (we had a few unforeseen travel delays and changes) but the hosts kept in touch throughout to make sure everyone had the instructions they needed for their arrival. The accommodation is very clean and comfortable and there is a main area with a fridge, microwave and coffee machine, which is ideal for a group to relax together in the evenings. I stayed in the Derbyshire Room, the bed was very comfortable and there is a spacious bathroom and a kitchen area in the room. The door leads to a fabulous view and you can sit outside with a coffee and take in the surroundings, it’s so peaceful. The hosts really looked after our group during our stay with such care and attention and it’s the personal touches that make this place special. I will definitely return to stay here. The only downside (and no fault of the accommodation) there is limited taxi service in the area, so for those who are not driving, you will need to ensure you have a few taxi numbers to hand, as taxis are difficult to come by in general around Staunton!

Charming, Beautiful, and Excellent Hosts

My friend and I took a spring break trip to Staunton VA recently. Besides seeing Romeo and Juliet at the American Shakespeare Company, the hotel was the best part of our trip. One of the first things we were delighted to find out is that they are also a cat rescue, the cats are kept separate from the rooms but I got to visit with their adoptable cats and kittens my first day there. The breakfast is amazing, each plate comes with homemade sweet bread the likes of which I have never tasted anywhere!! The owners also had stellar recommendations for places to eat and things to do. Pro-tip: staying at Frederick House gives you a discount to ASC shows- which I didn’t know when I booked my tickets! The room was nice, the furniture appeared to be antique and there was a separate closet/hallway area for our bags. The bed was soft. Our room had a nice bathtub as well. The location was prime too! We were right in downtown and within walking distance of many places to eat and shop. Overall I would highly recommend this place to anybody!

There are so many amazing things I have to say about our stay at Vine Cottage Inn. Firstly, Tammy and Dave were incredibly welcoming and I could tell they were happy to meet us. The location was perfect. A serene house with great views and a peaceful atmosphere is exactly what I wanted. You’re less than 30 minutes away from beautiful hiking trails, lakes, horses and restaurants. I am definitely coming back to see Tammy and Dave as soon as possible. They were both so friendly and accommodating. I wish that I could sit on their front porch and have their AMAZING breakfast every single day. I would highly recommend a stay at the Vine Cottage Inn!

We have made dozens of trip to Harrisonburg over the past 15 years, but the Friendly City Inn is our new, favorite place. Becca, Joel and Kyle were amazingly pleasant and professional. We really enjoyed the accommodations and the wonderful meals. Our college kids look forward to our next visit ( . . . probably so they can enjoy breakfast by Becca). Please do yourself a favor and give them the opportunity to spoil you, too. JSP

Wonderful and Charming Get Away!

Reviewed By CarnC

This is an absolutely well run and charming B&B. We stayed in the Silo which opened out right onto the courtyard. We even had a table & chairs right outside our door to enjoy our breakfast under cover from the morning rain. Everyone from the check-in person to the restaurant staff to the women who deliver your breakfast in a basket to your door, to the bartender were all friendly and professional. Our room was lovely and very comfortable. We will be back and probably stay in the same room just because of that little table & chairs outside our door.! Thank you to the staff - it was wonderful! Lovely house, fellow occupants not so much

Reviewed By Linda P

This is luck of the draw, but with contactless business and door codes texted for entry, your fellow occupants are an unknown. While two couples were lovely, the third set arrived later, parked on the neighbor's lawn, and cursed, yelled and laughed until 3am. At 5:30am their TV came on and the cursing started up again. With no onsite management, we all stayed locked in our rooms and endured the night. I am glad they stayed in the next morning, so breakfast was undisturbed, and we left right after. Very nice selection of choices, from small quiche, fruit, cereal, bagels, juices. Not homemade, but quite satisfactory. Lovely house, very clean, great location, off street parking, door codes worked perfectly.
