10 Top-Rated Bed and Breakfast Inns in Reykjavik, Capital Region

April 29, 2023 Leida Jutras

Reykjavik bears the distinction of being the world’s northernmost capital, and for many Icelandic visitors it also serves as a gateway to the rugged adventure options beyond. Recharge after outdoor pursuits in one of the many geothermal springs or luxurious indoor spas. We appreciate Reykjavik’s open-minded and energetic culture that includes a hip and internationally recognized music and arts scene, great food and notoriously "enthusiastic" nightlife.

Our stay was short but we loved the place. Cosy and we'll equipped, our hosts were very friendly and helped us with our inquiries. The room had a queen size bed, small tv with Roku to watch TV shows. You can also opt to have breakfast and pay a small fee of 10 euro per person. Recommended place! Jafet V.

This guest house was a wonderful place. We spent 2 nights. The location is excellent, walking distance to downtown and many different attractions. It’s an older house with much artwork. The bathroom needs some TLC, but everything worked. The room was spacious. Breakfast is just cereal, toast and coffee, but you have access to a full kitchen. They did not offer any bar soap or a wash cloth. You are asked to take your shoes off once you enter the house, but they did have some house shoes that you could use.

This old house is really beautiful, cozy and climatic, and you can rest there thanks to the well equipped rooms. Our room was small but very nice and quiet. At the breakfast we could try islandic bread and skyr, what was very nice. Location is also great - in the middle of the Old Town. And the host was very friendly - it was a big pleasure to start a day with a nice talk with her :) I loved it!

Very good but

Reviewed By M2198ICvictork

We stayed here for two nights by the end of our holiday in Iceland. It is located a few minutes drive from the city centre. The studio was of very good size with wide window. The bed and the pillow are reasonably comfortable. Towels are provided every other day but fine to us. The table which was supposed to be for dinning is pretty small though. We did not use the kitchen which has limited but sufficient utensils. The bathroom is on the small size but quite functional with strong shower. But there are a few things. First, there is no on-site staff and the entry was keyless by codes which are supposed to be emailed to us. We have not received the email. We called the number displayed in the notice on the ground floor which was immediately answered. It was found out that the email provided by expedia.com (I made booking through Agoda) was not related to me. The second problem was that, after resolving this without delay, we entered the room and found that the bathroom door was damaged to the extent that it could not be shut. Called again and this was not resolved by the first staff without returning a call to us as promised. We called the second time when Maria was a lot more helpful but was not able to contact the manager after many attempts. This was not resolved until the next day. The third problem is about parking, there were no instructions or advice as to where should we park, except for display of some non-English signs.

Great hostel - really recommend!

Reviewed By Fiona I

We stayed here for one night when we first arrived in Iceland, and for another one night stay just before we left Iceland a week later! So I can honestly say that we would go back, in fact, we *did* happily go back! The hostel is clean and comfy and the staff were amazing, so friendly and helpful. Late check-in for one of our visits was super easy too. They do a breakfast with a good range of nice food - continental breakfast style. The rooms are maybe a bit variable - one night we were in a basement twin room that was quite basic, but the other night we were in a beautiful studio room. The hostel has several buildings on the same street, so I suppose it’s just luck of the draw which is available when you book, but both of them were clean and comfy, so no complaints. I’d also say the price was good value - obviously Reykjavik is generally quite expensive but I couldn’t find a better deal than this. The location was great too, on a quiet street just a few minutes walk into the centre of the touristy area in Reykjavik.

An absolute hell hole

Reviewed By O9109DKelizabethg

I cannot put into words the relief I felt upon leaving this establishment on the morning of our checkout. We were lucky we had only booked one night in this pit of disgust. Zero communication from staff - nobody to check us in on arrival, we had to find our room ourselves and the actual main door to the place was pretty much out of sight. When we entered our room the pillow cases were ripped, dirty sheets and no hot water. It smelt foisty and had an air of Soviet Russia interior design about it. The shower was rusty and didn't close, with a hideous shower curtain to fill in the gap between the doors. But by far the most disturbing aspect of this stay was the TV wedged between our room door and ceiling which I noticed as I walked into our room. Not attached to anything, no bracket, simply rammed in between the top of the door and ceiling, resting on the door hinge, ready to inflict serious harm on someone should it have fallen. Words escaped me. Not only was this hostel an absolute shambles, but it puts lives at risk. I sent photographic evidence of this requesting a refund - no response. Furthermore, when we were still asleep in the morning, well before checkout time, our room was entered twice, once by a single staff member, the second time by a staff member with guests. They actually entered the pin number on the door and came bursting in, not once but twice. Utterly appalling behaviour, an invasion of privacy to put the cherry on top of the cake. So please, let this be a warning to you all. Do not book to stay at this shack, you will leave scarred and shocked to the core that tourist lodgings could be this foul and offensive.

Really more of a hostel than a hotel

Reviewed By JohnnyWinz

Long on charm, short on conveniences. I had high hopes for this place being a former hippie and lover of peace. First, the RPC is really far away from anything. It’s a schlep to get into town or to even get out of town. WiFi was virtually unusable. This wouldn’t be so important but in Iceland, EVERYTHING is done online. It’s not a luxury, it’s a necessity. No food service available, nor are there restaurants close by. Bathrooms are all shared. Very clean, very nice but communal nonetheless. Nice, just not a hotel by any stretch of the imagination.
