There is a touch of faded glory to this lovely accomodation. Very warm welcome from the lady owner who was very charming. The public rooms were very grand and quite spectacular. There is the added bonus if the swimming pool, so do not forget you costume...... the bedrooms we had as a group were quite simple and small but adequate for an overnight stay. Pleasant breakfast. There was a secure garage for our bikes and a charging point, which was much appreciated. There is a large garden to relax and the accomodation is a short walk from all the town has to offer. Lots of off street parking. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Welcome to a stunning estate in the Charente: Domaine de Montboulard. Treat yourself to a French escape at this 16th century logis, surrounded by fortified walls and a tower. Montboulard offers a wide variety of exceptional guest rooms and gîtes to guests who are looking for the perfect country retreat. Rent the entire property or the main house for private use or stay in one of the many charming rooms. Any booking size from individuals and couples to families and larger groups of up to 44 people are welcome at this superb location. It is a haven of peace and a base to explore the thriving city of Angoulême and historic Poitou-Charente. There are five recently renovated chambre d’hôte guest rooms which exude comfort whilst the nine gîtes offer more space for those who wish to have a self-catered holiday. You will benefit from new fully-equipped kitchens and bathrooms (many with walk-in showers!). And, pets are always welcome at Montboulard. Guests have access to a beautiful 15 x 6-meter heated, shared pool with a forest view. Nearby water sports include kayaking, canoeing and an indoor/outdoor aquatic center. At Montboulard, guests can stay active with petanque, croquet, bicycling, volleyball or simply settle down with a fun evening of family board games or a fire in a wood-burning stove in many of the gîtes. Adventure seekers can enjoy the zip-line in the nearby park or hike in the 40 hectares of woods surrounding the property. Alternatively, bicycles are also available on-site with cycle routes such as the bike path along the Charente River. These are particularly enjoyable during the warmer weathers. Food options are plentiful -- most gîtes have private walled gardens equipped with barbecues and garden furniture. Local food retailers, bio markets, fresh air French markets and bakeries are as close as one-kilometer from the property. Montboulard is located just twelve minutes from downtown Angoulême with its festivals and events year-round. Guests from France, North America and as far away as Australia have favoured Montboulard for their family and group events. If you wish to hire Montboulard for corporate or private events, you will find a reception and meeting space readily available for functions – in addition to the courtyard which can be catered for larger events and numerous family-friendly activities.
An unexpected change in plans had my husband and I looking for a place (at the last minute) to stay in Charente. I was not optimistic as we had our three dogs with us. Ugh. What kind of place would accept us? I was over the moon to discover that Domaine de Montboulard would, Their first star came when they suggested which gite would be best/most comfortable for us. Second came with the casual, warm welcome on our arrival. Third came with the spacious, comfortable, and CLEAN rooms with our own enclosed backyard. Fourth was that despite freezing temperatures (it was January), the rooms were toasty warm, yet with the high ceilings and space, were never stifling. The fifth star might be because of the endless walks around the grounds and surrounding forest, or maybe, the convenience to shops, boulangerie and just about anything you want within minutes. No, I think the fifth comes because the owners were so friendly, welcoming and accommodating. NOTE: don't let the fact that they take pets put you off. Their accommodations are clean and fresh!

The hotel rooms are somewhat basic, but perfectly serviceable and spacious. Staff are courteous and helpful, with efforts made to comply with Covid restrictions, though we were not asked for our Pass Sanitaire. But the food in the restaurant is superb!

This is truly an excellent hotel! It was renovated five years ago, so everything looks very neat and fresh. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and pleasantly designed. Common areas, including the dining hall, are really beautiful. Great breakfast service. Outdoor pool is heated. Very pleasant and accommodating owners, they strictly follow all latest health and safety guidelines. A unique property, we will happily come back.

An equestrian domain situated on the outskirts of Angoulême nestled in a valley sourrounded by 30 hectars of organically farmed forest and fields. Our rooms are renovated using natural materials (hemp, lime, wood and stone), decorated with upcycling furniture, whilst offering comfort and style. We can accomodate up to 11 people in 5 different rooms.
One of those little finds that one treasures. A tasteful, thoughtful restoration with friendly and helpful hostess, local produce for breakfast and good coffee. So far it sounds like anywhere else but this place has something special.

We will be happy to welcome you in our house, former mansion of the seventeenth, lovingly restored, with 3 lovely comfortable rooms (one suite for 5 people), swimming pool and a park of 1ha, with rivers. Breakfast with homemade jams and pastries are served in the large main room with its period fireplace or outside on the terrace overlooking the garden. You who love the quiet of the countryside and the wealth of regional traditions. The stay at the Moulin Rouhaud enchant you.
The people who own it were very friendly and kind. The views when sitting eating our fresh fruit salad and home made jams on croissants were amazing . The beds were very comfortable, I felt like it was our honeymoon . I would recommend it to anyone . I'm looking forward to going there again.

Belle demeure dans un grand parc arboré au coeur de la campagne charentaise. De très belle et vaste chambre et un petit déjeuner copieux.
Little chateau in the countryside near Cognac, hosted by the sweet & friendly lady of the house Christel. Beautiful house and garden, nice swimmingpool with very good chairs, really good lunch served at the swimmingpool if you want, great place to relax. Splendid breakfast with all local and homemade food. Nice room, we got a big one! Lots of fluffy cats, interioredecoration cute and funny. Felt more like staying at your sweet aunt, that's what we love!t

The building is set out as a quadrangle. Its old but has been renovated sympathetically. The quad area includes an open covered area with comfortable chairs and chairs and tables There is a large room for use by residents with tea and coffee facilities and soft drinks in the fridge available on an honesty basis. There is a separate walled garden which has a decent pool with decking and sunbeds. The rooms are designer minimalist, not big and with high ceilings which make them seem smaller. The bedhead is up against a wall with openings which gives access to some storage space for clothes, a decent sized walk in shower and a separate toilet. The floor is polished concrete which is very slippery when you leave the shower. There is very little space to put anything in the bedroom and I found it claustrophobic and not a place i wanted to spend any time in other than for sleeping. But, in fairness as I have said above there are other areas available on the site to residents. Breakfast was a disappointment. There was a fresh baguette, the smallest croissant that I have ever seen and a pain au chocolat (which neither of us are fans of). We asked for a second croissant but no. Surely the least you can expect from a French petit dejeuner is a croissant and we weren't convinced the pastries were fresh. There was a couple of slices of cheese, home made preserves and figs from the garden, orange juice and coffee. We didn't starve but the breakfast seemed mean. The patron Phillipe is laid back or indifferent, according to your point of view. This place did not really hit the spot for me but it does have facilities for residents that not all such places have but a 100e a night it is not the cheapest. I just did not find it very comfortable or in fact welcoming.
