5 nights half board

Reviewed By boba_fettish_1

First solo holiday, 5 nights half board. Reception lady friendly upon my arrival late in the evening and kindly lent me a phone charger plug as I only had the cable with me. They had put some fruit aside and offered to swap the evening meal I’d missed (due to flight delay) for lunch on my last day. Which was great. Room very nice and clean, I really liked my room. All the hotel was very clean, the cleaning staff must be amazing (always have a smile and a ‘hola’ when passing too.) Initially the TV would not work for me it was stuck in German and not playing, reception got this sorted on 2nd request. Maintenance man was really friendly and polite and dealt with issue quickly. Pool absolutely baltic and couldn’t bring myself to go in unfortunately. Glass of water at the bar approx 2 euros 65 (for maybe a half a pint) which is expensive compared to a cocktail which is about 5 euros 25 (depending which you have…recommend “love on the beach”). Shops only a short walk though. I have a gluten allergy and I’m also dairy free & vegetarian (I know) so I was a bit concerned about the food, however the staff always made a separate dish for me in the evening like a gluten free pasta or rice dish (although not to my taste really good of them and certainly edible!) They also had really nice gluten free baguettes for breakfast, there was also gluten free breakfast cereal. Plenty of fruit at all times and soya milk. Adult evening entertainment was fair enough, theres a pretty sedate atmosphere with the guests (not expecting a rave but lack of atmosphere just to mention what to expect!). The kids entertainer was an absolutely lovely guy and kept the kids happy and also did aqua aerobics one day and yoga (I didn’t). A couple of the waiters were really nice & welcoming, others not so much (and one I found quite rude on one occasion). I would definitely return & recommend.

We booked this holiday to a place we know and love, the first since 2019 and yet again we were not disappointed neither in the the staff or the hotel cleanliness. We were a bit anxious when booking, especially after the past 2 years of Covid pandemic but all our concerns were unfounded. Already thinking of another trip after the summer.

Stayed here mid may for a week really nice hotel with great staff good food and good drink ☺️ entertainment was pretty good too for an all inclusive hotel Arrived at stupid o clock and was quickly checked in given directions to the room only to find it was at the bottom of the hotel facing the tennis courts not happy as paid for sea view room purposely went and complained but fobbed off until next morning but then given the correct room facing the sea on the high floor that I'd paid for ! Left 2 plates of food and bottle of water which was a nice touch also water left daily in glass bottles ?? Lovely big and extremely comfortable rooms tea and coffee and mini fridge and room has good air con also an absolute awesome walk in shower no irons in room despite me asking before arrival and told each room has one ?? You can get iron and board but be quick as they don't leave you with it all week just iron all your stuff sharpish ? Most of the staff can't do enough for you and are so friendly place is immaculate pool is salt water but really nice and refreshing not overpowering. Plenty of sunbeds and parasols no loud music blasting out too so that's a bonus beach towels are provided too hot tub is nice to use too. Parakeets visit your balcony and you can feed them by hand views across pdc are lovely and walk to the promenade and along to PDC one way and matagorda the other both resorts are great matagorda is a little less crowded buses around the area are great and cheap if you are visiting the Texas Rancho park just walk as it took us 11 mins from the park to hotel there's no kerb at first ( coming back )but safe enough on the road side until the kerbs start so it saves waiting for the bus and the parks well worth the time to visit take your swimming gear and a towel for the pool. Would definitely stay at the hotel again if I was staying in PDC

Best swimming pool I've seen on holiday. Big and spotlessly clean, although cold. Spacious accommodation although it could do with an upgrade. Great shower, just leave it running for a bit to get the hot water through. Excellent value bar but closes at 6pm. Excellent location for the main avenue, at a quieter end of town. Several stairs and exit gates. However, rooms 119-124 and 134-137 are perfect for people with mobility issues as you can come straight through the gate to your room and pool without a single step in sight.

First time visit- great week stay

We have just returned from a 7 day break at this hotel. We stayed here after walking past many times on our previous 6 visits to Playa de Las Pocillos/ Matagorda. The food was the best we have had particularly the pool bar snacks in the afternoon were excellent, great portions. We stayed all inclusive and this was definitely value for money. Unlike in previous hotels the quality of the drinks was excellent and not watered down. All areas cleaned daily and this was very visible. All staff very friendly and we felt that they were genuinely greatful that we staying there. Our only two negatives was that the evening entertainment was poor, we only had 1 good night on our stay. The second negative was that when we arrived we missed the evening meal and no food was left for us. Overall we have a great time here and hoping to be back again in August.

Just lovely!

8 separate blocks of bungalows and pools. We were in block 8 which had the biggest pool. The hotel van picked us up on arrival and drove us with our luggage to our block. The location is great, minutes from the beach and restaurants. There's a Spar which is well stocked with all you could want. The area felt very safe. We were spoilt with our accommodation, we opted for a double apartment and it didn't disappoint, it was huge, we were given 2 separate bathrooms, so the kids had one and us another. Loads of room, TV had English channels, our accommodation had a little courtyard which had a line and pegs, perfect for drying off swimwear, towels etc. Wardrobes have ample space and hangers. Maids came daily to either change towels or clean the room. Our shower was blocked, we called maintenence and they came and sorted it straight away, no further problems. We requested extra pillows, again sorted straight away. We ordered a taxi from reception which picked us up outside our block rather than us walking over to reception which is about 5 or less minutes walk. The pool area was quiet, no fighting for a lounger, there's a small pool and a large deep pool but be warned the pools were freezing. There's a snack bar too, reasonably priced. Reception also gave us vouchers for a free coffee or juice on our arrival which was a nice touch. We visited the Aqualava waterpark, its very small but ideal for kids as the area is safe and they can't get lost. We also went into Peurto del Carmen for afternoon tea in a bar called 'The Good Old Days', a 70s themed bar, well worth a visit, the decor is very nostalgic. Would definitely recommend for families looking for a week of completely chilling out. There wasn't any entertainment on the complex or in the bars apart from one, but this may have been because its early season.

The reviews don’t lie - and we’re not “complainers”

Reviewed By TravelDave1986

We were a bit concerned by reading other reviews but as we aren’t “complainers” and tend to be grateful for any time away with each other, we decided to just see what it was like. To be honest, the hotel is “OK” and many of the reviews are quite right. 1) The food in the hotel for those staying “all inclusive” is limited. You’ll certainly not starve and there certainly wasn’t big queues in the restaurant. Our best meal was pork and vegetables, but the veg consisted of carrots and broccoli only. Breakfasts are probably the best (sausage, eggs, tomatoes, hash browns, bacon) with lunch possibly the worst in terms of selection. If you’re used to all inclusive having fresh fruit you’ll be disappointed with the tinned pears and tinned peaches on offer. But again, the food was “OK”. 2) The rooms are very dated. Not dirty, but dated. The communal areas and outside of the hotel are lovely. Clean, nicely painted, looks very nice. However this is deceptive as the rooms are dated and the painting of rooms is a bit “slap dash”. These need a bit of money spent on them but would change the whole user experience if they were invested in a little bit. The kitchen in each room is useful but ours had a replaced hob top which didn’t fit the original worktop so the gap was plugged by a piece of old skirting board. We laughed, but other guests would see this as outrageous and is another example of the decor in rooms “making do”. There is a bath with over head shower, but the bath doesn’t have bath taps so if you want to use the bath you need to fill it using the shower. Very strange but again you can make do. 3) The staff were great. Never had an issue with them at all. 4) Pool area is fine. Yes there are some beds that are “saggy” but equally there are beds that are fine. Never seemed to be rammed with people and we visited during May half term. Could get a bit Smokey under the covered area near the pool but if you know that and don’t like that, just choose a sun bed away from that area. 5) The location is fine. At the top of a bank and you need reasonable mobility to get around, but taxis are just around the corner and will take you to the beach for €3. A 15 min walk for most people and we walked every day with a 3 year old and an 8 year old. 6) The advertised kids play park is out of commission so don’t expect to be able to use it. OVERALL: The hotel is a decent base for your holiday. Don’t expect luxury because it doesn’t offer that. If you go with this in mind I’m sure you’ll have a good time. We had a good time but we have stayed in nicer 3 star accommodation in the past. If you get it cheap, go for it!

What's not to like?

Reviewed By Barrowland

To be honest I have stayed in far worse places. Not sure why there are reviews complaining about the food. I would think they are the sort of people who eat nothing but junk food smothered in salt for every meal so I get why they might be disappointed, but we were pleasantly surprised. The fruit and salad were plentiful and always very fresh. They even serve freshly squeezed juice and smoothies at breakfast unlike many Spanish hotels which serve that awful concentrate which tastes like undiluted squash. We were a big party (11 of us) and never had an issue getting sunloungers each morning. There are plenty of parasols too except in the patio around the back. Good location opposite the beach, where it costs €10.50 for 2 loungers and a parasol for the day (bargain!) Only 5 minutes drive from the airport. Rooms were cleaned daily. Staff were fantastic. Entertainment was hit and miss, but it always is. The building is a little tatty in places but other than that i cant fault it. Thank you Sol for a great holiday.
