My son recommended that we visit Smartno and we weren't disappointed. The whole village is magnificent. Set up high and looking down on the terraces of the Slovenian Tuscany area, it was majestic. Great place for a photo shoot! Had a lovely meal at one of the little restaurants. Great food and great service - even gave us a complementary drink!! Parking is easy and doesn't cost anything. Smartno is a must for anyone who want to experience the real Slovenia. We were both blown away by it.

The purpose of this museum of First World is to represent the war events and their human and social influences. After an introduction on the First World War, attention is focused on the events on the War front along the Isonzo: besides the weapons and arms there are also objects related to the daily life of the soldiers and a real life reconstruction of a trench. Then there is the documentation of the situation in Gorizia, a real "trenchtown" and the description of the 1917 and 1918 events, until the armistice between Italy and Austria on the 3rd of November. The First World War museum includes an area dedicated to General Armando Diaz, with an exhibition of documents, medals and other objects.
My review concerns only the "War Museum", because I've only seen this.
Although in my opinion it is not up - for museological quality - the similar Museums I've seen in Rovereto (Italy) and in Kobarid (Slovenia), it is still decent, and allows an adequate idea of some of the tragic aspects of World War I.
On this basis, a feature of the museum is (understandably) the particular attention to the role of Gorizia into the war. Gorizia was then Austrian city, then one of the objectives of the Italian attacks. Fought by opposing armies, it was largely destroyed and almost deserted by its inhabitants (during the most dramatic events, only 3000 people remained in the city).
Another distinguishing feature of the museum is the rare documentation (photographic or otherwise) on the attack in Sarajevo, which gave origin (1914) to the World War I, and on the "double funeral" (in Trieste and Vienna) of the victims, the Austrian Crown Prince Franz Ferdinand and his wife.

This is a monument commemorating the deaths of 57,000 Italian soldiers killed in the Gorizia area in WWI. We tend to think of Belgium and France as the prime battle sites, but clearly there was a lot of death and destruction in this area.
There are 70+ steps to get up to the monument and a panoramic view of the surrounding hills once you’re at the top.
We go to these monuments of war to remain mindful of the need not to have to build any more of them.

We spent a wonderful afternoon in adrenaline park near Soča river. We were able to test our psychophysical abilities high above the ground and socialising with eachother outside the office. The zip line was the final touch. :) Special thanks to excellent guides who encouraged us to acheive the goal :) Definitely reccomend it!

A casino hotel is never my first choice, but this one was pretty good. Big rooms with extra sitting room, so loads of space, really good value for money. The Spa and pool where also a big hit. Tip avoid this hotel on weekends, as it is overrun with old Italians blowing there pension money.

The powerful castle is located on the top of the hill that dominates Gorizia. You can see it from all over the town but especially from the main square. It was built during the twelfth century. The rooms retain the ancient medieval furnishings. From the walls the city's view is really gorgeous!
