Top 10 restaurants in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

October 27, 2017 Tynisha Seiler

Bosnia and Herzegovina's fascinating capital Sarajevo nestles among dramatic peaks, a bustling and welcoming city. War took its toll, with the 1992-1996 siege hitting hard. But the lively, diverse, museum-rich city has been almost entirely reconstructed. Don't miss Bijambare caves, set in thick forests and amid lakes to the north of the city, or Bosna Springs, from which the country takes its name. Site of 1984's Winter Olympics, Sarajevo offers spectacular skiing on Mount Bjelasnica Jahorina.

Ok, must say that mine and my wife's dishes were good (first quality material...chicken and veal..:-D) but 3 and must say again 3 only main courses and no other choices....if they weren't good it would have been a joke! So 4 balls because I'm sure they'll grow...still waiting for the bill....so give me 10 minutes before I'll publish it....price....very good, so approved, beside the poor choice.

On our way through Bosnia we spent a day in Sarajevo and we were looking for a good place to eat.
As we don´t know Sarajevo so good we took a taxi from our hotel. The driver dropped us off at the main street. We had some trouble finding this restaurant as there was no sign on the main road, so we called their phone nr.. The owner answered and even came outside to try to find us and show us the way in. So if you are having trouble finding it, don´t hesitate to call. They will gladly guide you, or even come outside to get you.
The service was absolutely excellent. The owner who answered our call was serving us. The food was absolutely delicious, wine too. The atmosphere of this cozy restaurant was just perfect.
We only regret not having the time to try their Deserts. But will do so on our next visit to Sarajevo.

We came here for dinner on a Sunday night and the place was pretty quiet. We sat upstairs and mostly had it to ourselves. The service was very friendly but low key. I had the seafood risotto and my partner had the veal casserole. We both had the apple pie which was like a strudel for dessert. The only criticism that I would have is that the seafood risotto had a fair bit of what we would call crab sticks or seafood extender in it. I don't think that this is really good enough for a restaurant. Apart from that, everything was very good. I would recommend this restaurant.

We have been there on a Saturday night w/o a reservation but we could get a table. (I recommend to book a table previously however if you couldn't, it worth a try)
A dinner takes at least 2 hours so take your time.
We tried 2 vegan daily soups 1 vegan and 1 vegetarian main dish, 1 vegan dessert. We loved every bite. We liked the difference and interesting way of using spices and vegetables in Sasha's kitchen. It is quite different, kind of a mixture of east and west.
Well I admit Sasha has his character and the way of leading his restaurant but this is what makes the whole concept and experience unique.

4 Sobe Gospodje Safije

“The Four Rooms of Mrs. Safija” comprises a restaurant, a wine and cocktail bar, a lounge, and a flower-filled summer garden. The first venue of its kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina “Four Rooms” offers an unforgettable ambience which celebrates the legend of a forbidden love affair between beautiful Safija from Sarajevo and Johan, an Austrian Count, during the transition from Turkish to Austro-Hungarian rule.Safija’s house was built in 1910 as a monument to love, beauty and fortitude. Our modern designers have crafted the interior with exceptional care, paying attention to every single millimeter of the past embedded in the walls of Mrs. Safija’s rooms. The restoration has left the atmosphere in the four rooms completely intact, which was our ultimate objective. While all of the rooms have been decorated with a specific purpose in mind, their history has nevertheless been preserved. The oriental-style architecture and the interiors decorated with fretwork and filled with an interesting and eclectic mix of ornaments, blend into a unique ethnographic display.

Zara iz duvara

Story about "Zara iz duvara" is truly inspired by nature from its very beginnings. Literal translation is "Nettle from a Wall", where we put nettles on pedestal as one of the finest gifts of nature. Nettles have incredible application in alternative medicine, agriculture, cuisine. They say if nettle grew in limited locations and in limited amounts on the planet, it would be more valuable than gold, thanks to its precious health benefits. It contains many minerals and vitamins, as well as folic acid and fiber. <br>"Duvar" represents a wall, most specifically a wall encompassing an estate, and nettles that grow "from a wall" is actually the first defense an enemy would approach. By growing even "from duvar", it symbolizes the indestructible power of nature, which survives despite all the difficulties and external influences, it always find a way toward life, and continues to provide its best, without asking anything in return, even though it is often considered weed which is to be eradicated - thus serving as a reminder that the best things in life are often taken for granted, even though they are there at the touch of our hand.<br><br>Such is the case with real home-made cuisine in the world today, which is more and more replaced with fast foods thanks to a hectic lifestyle we live by today. Thus we have made it a point here at "Zara iz duvara" to prepare dishes in accordance with traditional family recipes, we one sole wish in the heart: to bring to your table that feeling of love and care which can only be found at mother&apos;s kitchen table. <br><br>Within our daily offer we prepare typical dishes of traditional Bosnian cuisine: Bosnian pot, sitni cevab, okra with three types of meat, klepe, dolma and sarma, Bosnian đulbastija and many others. Ingredients for particular dishes are somewhat different depending on the season, because we are dedicated to selecting only those finest gifts of nature for preparation our dishes that currently grow in nearby fields and forrests. Most of these wonderful traditional dishes are slowcooked in earthenware pots for major part of the day.<br>As part of our special daily offer, we prepare certain dishes that are not typically found in traditional restaurants any more, such as bumbar or lamb roast with prunes and walnuts. We also aim to revive some neglected foods, so you will have the opportunity to taste dishes with barley, soups with millet, home-made juices from hand-picked mountain herbs, compotes, home-made chutney and various other specialties.<br><br>And alongside everything - nettles is omnipresent! In form of home-made juice, our very own nettle pesto, pies or prepared with potatoes a la Dalmata with fish and seafood.<br><br>We cordially invite you to discover your favorite flavor in "Zara iz duvara"&apos;s authentic offer!
