The RIESENWALD is closed until spring! The adventure trail RIESENWALD - which was developed in cooperation with Switzerland Tourism - focuses on five stories, which revolve around the myth of the Martinsloch. Thus a regionally anchored topic is staged in a strong connection with the UNESCO World Heritage Sardona. Our small and large guests are guided through 17 individually designed and exciting stations. There are also cozy places to grill and linger. Motor skills, senses and the awareness of nature are also promoted on the adventure trail RIESENWALD.

More pistes than one can cover in one day.
The piste difficulty ranges from easy to difficult. And don’t be misled by the easy(blue line) pistes, they often have difficult segments with narrow and steep runs, bumps and powder snow.
One general complain, probably to all Switzerland ski resorts, is that the pistes are only groomed once. The snow conditions deteriorate so much after lunch. Only experienced skiers mange with ease, even on the easy pistes.

Der Landesplattenberg war nicht nur von wirtschaftlicher Bedeutung für Engi, er zog auch immer wieder Geologen und Paläontologen an. Zahlreiche berühmte Forscher beschäftigen sich bis heute mit den Fossilien und der Geologie des Plattenberges. Für viele sah der Alltag am Plattenberg aber ganz anders aus. Die Arbeiter am Plattenberg arbeiteten zu kleinen Löhnen meist sechs Tage die Woche, litten oft an Lungenkrankheiten und starben früh. Seit 1994 wird der Landesplattenberg von einer steigenden Zahl von Leuten aus nah und fern besucht. Im Jahre 2014 waren es 10'000 Personen, die im Landesplattenberg an einer Führung oder bei einem Konzert teilnahmen

Was uns da im Berg Hinterlassen wurde ist einmalig und verdient einen Besuch. Bis ins 20. Jahrhundert hinein wurde in Engi Schiefer abgebaut. Die Höhlen und Kavernen im Berg sind einmalig. Immer wieder finden Konzerte und einmal im Jahr sogar ein Gottesdienst im Landesplattenberg statt. Einfach den Berg geniessen. Bei Führungen wird ein Film über die Geschichte gezeigt. Ein "Muss" für die Besucher des Glarnerlandes.

If you are looking for fantastic views of the river gorge many metres then this is worth a visit. We parked in the centre of Flims and followed the signs to the 'Aussichtsplatform'. The walk is through shaded woodland. The path is firm and mostly downhill on the way there(obviously, uphill on the way back. On reaching the platform, you ascend a couple of flights of steps to reach the top where you are effectively standing over the cliff edge. The views from up there are spectular

Das Hoschet-Haus wurde 1545 erbaut und ist das älteste, vollständig aus Stein erbaute Wohnhaus der Region. Es liegt im Zentrum von Schwanden, nahe dem Ort wo die evangelischen Landsgemeinde zwischen 1623 und 1837 statt. Dazu erinnert der Landsgemeindebrunnen vor dem Haus. Die Skulptur wurde vom bekannten Künstler Werner J. Müller.

Im "historischen" Zentrum von Schwanden liegt wurde das Hoschet Haus 1545 erbaut. Es ist ein historischer Zeitzeuge und vollständig aus Stein gebaut. Der Erbauer Peter Sonnentag stammte sehr wahrscheinlich aus dem Val Sesia, einem Seitental des Aostatals. Nahe dem Haus ist die evangelische Kirche. Die Kirche geht bis aufs Jahr 1349 zurück. Der Landsgemeindebrunnen mit der Skulptur von Werner J. Müller erinnert an die evangelische Landsgemeinde, welche in der Nähe zwischen1623 und 1837 abgehalten wurde. Das "Rysläuferhuus" (der Blockbau aus den 15. Jahrhundert) mit den Renaissance-Malereien steht ebenfalls ganz in der Nähe. Kleinode, für welche sich ein kleiner Halt bezahlt macht.

If you don't care about the buzz of the famous resorts places, where architectural disgrace has taken over to manage demand, this little car-free town about 1hr from Zurich is the ideal place. Sufficient infrastrcture to have fun, a couple of good restaurants and very friendly people all over. I love it!

This is one of the iconic places of Flims in the summer. The water is a gorgeous color. There is swimming available if you are up to the cold.

Seit kurzem ist der Industrieort Schwanden um eine Attraktion reicher. Nahe dem historischen Zentrum (Hoschet-Haus, Rysläuferhuus, evang. Kirche) kann jedermann durch ein Labyrinth laufen. Es ist dem berühmten Labyrinth von Chartres (F) nachempfunden. Alle sind herzlich eingeladen, das Labyrinth zu begehen. Wer genau hingehört hat, was das Labyrinth ihm erzählt, kann diese Gedanken im Raum der Stille in der nahe gelegenen Kirche verarbeiten.

Regular visitors to Flims/Laax, our young kids (5 & 7) obliged us to spend a visit to the Freestyle Academy.
The place is great and lived up to the expectations of our older one (I'll come back to the younger one later). There are areas for skating (half pipe etc), for climbing, trampoline and even for jumping with skis or skateboards. Once you have done the compulsory introductory course, you can enjoy all these attractions and it really is fun for a full afternoon.
The facilities are very well maintained and the staff is competent and friendly. Some of the helmets that were provided did not work properly (could not be closed) but otherwise everything was fine. The place may get a bit crowded and I do not know if there is a maximum number of people allowed in at the same time. This would certainly be a good thing.
Now, for the younger kids (up to 6 years), there is a kids-room. Unfortunately, this place is much less fun than the rest of the academy and it looks a bit like a last minute addition. Our younger one got very quickly bored and was disappointed as he wanted to do some of the staff for the older ones. We are looking forward to his 6th birthday when we will be able to enjoy the full facility with both kids at the same time!
Overall: well done and lots of fun for kids (and adults!)
10. Schiefertafelfabrik Elm
Nach Einstellung der Produktion erwarb die «Stiftung pro Elm» die Liegenschaft, mit dem Ziel, den letzten Zeugen des einst bluhenden Schiefergewerbes der Nachwelt zu erhalten. Samtliche Werkzeuge, Geratschaften und Maschinen, die es zur Herstellung von Schreibtafeln braucht, sind noch vorhanden. Das alte Handwerk prasentiert sich heute in modernster Museumspadagogik den Interessierten.
