Guitars the Museum

This space holds a guitar similar to the one Keith Richards used to play the Honky Tonk Women riff. And here's one like the one Eric Clapton used for his solo in Layla. And the kind that Jimi Hendrix set on fire in Monterrey. But how in the world did these and hundreds more rare and priceless guitars from the 1950s and 1960s end up in Umea and become Guitars - The Museum? Why aren't they hanging in the MoMA in New York, or in the Tate Modern in London? This is the story of how the Ahden twins from Vannasby managed to put together the world's finest collection of vintage guitars surreptitiously, almost in secret. Guided tours 12.00, 15.00 & 17.00.

Reviewed By ErwanErwan - Stockholm, Sweden

I wasn't sure I wanted to go, as I feared looking at a bunch of guitars would be boring (no matter how old and unique they were). I finally went as my airbnb host insisted that it was something not to miss. I was pleasantly surprised: I arrived in time for the guided tour, and got a glimpse of the crazy stories around some of these guitars, thanks to a very knowledgeable guide. Never got bored. Even if you're not passionate about guitars, I would recommend a visit!

Stockholm Old Town

The Old Town, unsurprisingly, is the oldest part of Stockholm. It's certainly the tourist's go-to destination, but that doesn’t detract from its architectural and otherwise urban beauty.

Cobble streets, quirky nooks and crannies, good mix of shops bars, cafes and beautiful buildings and museums, we stayed within Gamla Stan and very glad we did, easy access from there to everywhere and lots of museums worth walking to nearby. Definitely worth trying to stay within Gamla Stan area. We stayed in small scandic hotel which was located just at one end of Gamla Stan.

The Vasa ship capsized and sank in Stockholm 1628. After 333 years on the seabed the mighty warship was salvaged and the voyage could continue. Today Vasa is the world's only preserved 17th century ship.

Travelled over to Malmo from Copenhagen for a long weekend in December, went by train, great views and wonderful experience, have always wanted to do this journey, really comfortable way to travel between countries & very fast and efficient and on time. Journey back was a disappointment as sky was black, and middle of a storm but fun all the same.

Liseberg amusement park

Liseberg is a park for everyone. Since 1923 we have brought millions of people together to have fun. The park offers adventure, music, games, good food and beautiful gardens over three seasons: summer, Halloween and Christmas.

Reviewed By bunnybumboo - Gloucester, United Kingdom

This place is definitely a must do in Gothenburg! We paid for the Christmas entry ticket as we only wanted to walk around and not go on the rides, this was reasonable at about £8. The park is decorated so beautifully for Christmas and really is magical. There is a tram stop nearby but it also isn't too long a walk from the centre. There is so much to do there even if you do not want to go on any of the rides.

Visited the Volvo museum back in March 2020 - just before Covid got bad. The museum itself is a bit outside Gothenburg so a taxi / Uber may be needed if not driving. The museum is absolutely fascinating, and the collection of both historic and modern Volvo cars is seriously impressive, as well as concept cars. I can highly recommend

Botanical Garden

Welcome to one of the largest botanical gardens in Northern Europe. The cultivated part occupies 40 acres and holds about 12 000 species. It is a botanical garden with a strong emphasis on horticulture and the garden is divided into different sections linked by lawns with fine trees and shrubs. You will find a kitchen garden, a herb garden, perennial and annual borders, a Japanese glade, a rhododendron valley and a stunning rock garden with a waterfall. In the bulb garden you find species that are not grown anywhere else. The Greenhouses have more than 4 000 species including a large collection of orchids and carnivorous plants. The Eastern Island tree, extinct in its natural locality, is preserved here. The garden is bordering a nature reserve where also the arboretum is located.

A lovely garden with so many different plants and trees in one place. Springtime, summer, autumn, winter, worth visiting all year round. Nice cafe for a rest as well.
