Mas du Brulat

A stylish small boutique hotel in a beautiful, ancient Provencal village house with a bar, restaurant and heated swimming pool. This beautiful Provencal village house dates back to 1594 (200 years before the French Revolution). The hotel provides our clients with five double ensuite bedrooms, one junior suite and two suites with a bedroom and sitting room. The house is located in the village of Le Brulat and overlooks the boules court. Le Brulat is located within the Rosé wine vineyards, and about fifteen minutes from the picturesque beaches of Bandol and St Cyr sur Mer. The Circuit Paul Ricard, where the French Grand Prix took place in June 2018, is only ten kilometres from the hotel.

Wins my 'Worst Hotel So Far' award

Reviewed By The_EdVenture

We've stayed in rough hotels in India, bug-filled beach huts in Thailand but this place has beaten them all - what a crappy experience!! We're amazed at some of the good reviews, because our experience was awful. Perhaps there was a different housemaid or it was spring/autumn... In the heat of summer (August at around 29degC outside max) the room was almost unbearably hot (you can see we had to sleep on the balcony to survive), with no air-con and only cheap fans. We've lived in Dubai, Malaysia and so we know heat. Housekeeping - terrible. We called back the maid to come and explain what exactly she had done in our room, as it seemed she had just straightened the sheets. She professed to have cleaned everything, so my wife dragged her finger along the floor and showed her the dust and hair... rank. You will also see a photo here of what I managed to brush up from a metre square of floor. Management - uninterested, non-committal, blank-faced and seemingly bothered by our questions; to be honest they seem to be much more interested in the restaurant downstairs and its success (restaurant has good reviews ; be careful) Noise : Beachside, you will hear the noise from the restaurant / bar travelling up towards your room. We had noisy people till 2:30am on a Thursday. Decor : They're not far off having nice rooms, but when you can't even fix a tap securely, or replace a broken shower head, you have no chance of providing decent facilities. Bonus Features : on our last night here, we heard a loud noise at 5am, wandered in from the balcony sleeping space to find a drunk, sleeping stranger on the double bed next to our 4-year old son. I wish I'd taken a photo of it, but I was more concerned with our safety! We kicked him out... Upon checking out, the management gave plenty of pathetic excuses as to why they had no air-con (like it was an exceptional heatwave (it wasn't, 29 is not exceptional)). Don't risk staying here unless it's winter and you like getting wasted 7 nights a week.

Strategic location for visiting Gorge Verdon

Reviewed By leos167

I chose this place as a strategic location for visiting Gorge Verdon - 1 hour drive in each direction. I was surprised at mixed reviews on here ranging from Outstanding to Terrible; nevertheless, I thought I've give it a try. I really don't understand all the negative reviews on here. It's a lovely place run by a husband and wife duo. The rooms were clean and comfortable; the bathrooms looked like they've been recently renovated. Ground floor rooms have easy access to the pool. Nice pool area. Parking on the premises. We were arriving late in the evening, on a Friday, so to be on the safe side, I sent the hotel a message ahead of our arrival to make a reservation at their well-reviewed restaurant https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g635829-d2374295-Reviews-Abbaye_du_Thoronet-Le_Thoronet_Var_Provence_Alpes_Cote_d_Azur.html Unfortunately it was fully booked, but we were lucky to find an open restaurant at the entrance to the village (it was 9 pm). We made sure they had a table for the following evening, upon our return from a day trip to the Gorge. The dinner served by the pool consisted of two-three well-presented courses and was a good value: set menu/'formule' prices although this was a Saturday evening! Breakfast was adequate for a 2-star property (some gluten free options would be welcome, but, hey, this is France - I haven't seen any in any of the hotels I've stayed in). To sum up, I really don't understand what not to like about this place, except for their strange pool policy, which we discovered upon check-out. At breakfast I asked the owner, who works the front desk, whether we could put the luggage in storage at 11 am (check-out time) and hang around by the pool before setting off for Côte d'Azur at noon. The answer was no. I thought some miscommunication had occurred because of my far from excellent French. So my partner asked the wife, who we'd struck a conversation with the night before, at dinner and got the same response in English. We squeezed in an hour by the pool, which was absolutely empty, between 10 and 11 am. I found this very strange. I've stayed in many hotels, but was never allowed entry to the pool on the day of the checkout. Despite this, I still give this property 5 stars.

No WIFI

Reviewed By laradela8

In our vancamping holidays in France, my partner got an urgent job to do. We decide to book a hotel for one night to have a desk and a good internet conection for some hours. We booked in Booking.com this hotel because had WIFI in the description. The surprised was when the receptionist told us in the check-in, the WIFIi has not enough power and we should use our phones. Which was a mission imposible because our room was in the ground and no conection at all. We told them our special situation, and if we could find a solution to be able to work. The receptionist was not able to lend us a phone, usb for internet or change us of the room. We paid a hotel room for nothing, 137,98 euros. Next day in the check out, there was other receptionist and i suggested that they should delete in the website Booking.com that they have wifi in the hotel. And she answered to me: "People don´t come here to work, they come for holidays." O_O

Nice place in small village

Reviewed By Karolina W

If you are looking for one night out if busy touristic places go there. We spend there 1 night looking for cheaper price being ready for boring evening in the middle of nowhere. I was really positively surprised that this small place with 5 streets in the village is busy with people coming to eat something and stay for night. Very helpful staff with additional services if needed. Village itself, so small so you can setup a challenge to walk though all the streets within 1 hour. Magnifique!

We stayed here for four nights in early April. We happened to be the only guests, though I'm sure the entire experience would have been as positive had others been staying. The property is an off the beaten track, lovely Provencal building though there's plenty to do within half an hour's drive plus the coast and the Verdon Gorge are easily accessible. A car is essential. Lovely rooms, tastefully decorated, and with period furniture and interesting art. Excellent modern bathrooms. Philippe and Beatrice make excellent hosts, advising on restaurants for dinner, places to visit in the area. Delicious breakfast provided by Philippe - mornings were chilly when we stayed so we ate mainly indoors, though once in the sunshine in the garden. There's a great looking pool but sadly too cold to consider when we visited. In terms of price, it's fairly top end to stay here, though we felt it was worth it. We'd like to return one day! Definitely recommended.
