Nice stay for the money

Reviewed By mrobbins2022

Aside from limited parking and a slightly warm room upon arrival, my friend and I really enjoyed our stay. The hospitality was above any hotel I have stayed at in the last 10 years and with boys that play travel ball, I stay in a lot of hotels. Complimentary wine, cheese, and crackers, complimentary cookies, and complimentary hot breakfast sandwiches upon request are part of what stood out as above and beyond. Front desk staff was helpful for suggesting extra parking options, providing ideas for dinner, and allowing us to keep a car parked for a few hours after checkout. The rooms are walking distance to the beach and boardwalk. Hotel supplied beach chairs are available for use. The pool is clean and well maintained. And, the rooms appear to have been recently updated. A nice place that I hope to return to in the future.

Warning-Cancels Reservations

Reviewed By kandesea2021

Beware- this motel is known for mysteriously cancelling reservations without warning. Go to the Atlantic instead - it’s right next door, has a better pool, more efficient staff, and overall more professional and a bit cleaner. Fenwick Islander would have been ok for what it was had the staff not canceled my reservation and tried to stuff eight people in a room instead. Please do not be fooled if they ask you to book through them instead of booking.com because if they make a mistake they will not take responsibility or accommodate you. They made me cancel my booking.com reservation and book through them (probably so they didn’t have to pay a fee) but advertised it as giving me a better rate. Then they canceled my reservation and blamed booking.com. When that didn’t work Karen blamed Rose. I drove 3 hours, arrived with my 4 month old infant (toddler, husband on the way) and was told we didn’t have a room. I booked months in advance and spent forever working with both hotel employees to book adjoining rooms with another family AT ROSE AND KAREN’S SUGGESTION. Karen needs help during busy season and she will blame her coworkers if something goes wrong in their absence. The manager is rude and gave me the run around before showing up the next day. Didn’t call me to discuss and when I did beg to finally have a word with him on the phone he sounded like a teenager with his first summer job - not a business owner. They must have felt bad and eventually reserved me a room but never even told me-Rose happen to find out after doing some investigating. I was very embarrassed for them but if you like small town unprofessionalism this is your spot. If you are driving from far and especially if you have kids, it is not worth the hassle - nobody likes surprises in these situations.

Great staff, very basic and lacking accommodations

Reviewed By Nascargjrl88

First off, Amy and Belle are super nice and kudos to housekeeping. This was our first vacation in 5 years... Never again at this hotel. We've stayed in nicer hotels with larger rooms and pools for much less. For a pet friendly hotel, there isn't rally anywhere for your dog to do his business unless you walk along the busy highway to the neighborhood behind. What little patch of green there is at the hotel, you're likely to step in someone else's stinky business. So much for please clean up after your pet! Our double room was incredibly small to accommodate a dog crate even after rearranging furniture. You can barely move in the tiny bathroom. Very noisy being right on the main road. I don't know about the renovation that supposedly took place, seemed pretty lacking all around- especially the exterior. The nightstand USB/AC outlets didn't work. The shower and sink were old, outdated, and the shower curtain smelled funky. The dog shower on the premises is a converted mini tub with an old, leaky hose. It is centrally located and within walking distance of downtown, although getting in and out of the parking lot was sometimes tricky. Aside from the aforementioned staff, this hotel is only good if you need basic accommodations during the week. Otherwise, definitely not worth $200 for weekends.

There is a reason this place has so many negative reviews. It fits the description of shabby hotel completely. It is run down, dirty, disgusting, smelly and unsafe. The moment we walked up to the entrance we knew something was off. Outside the entrance hanging out by the corner of the building there appeared to be several “ladies of the night”. Check in was fine, but once you got past the lobby, the hallways were all dimly lit and creepy. It felt like you were walking down the hallways in The Shining. The place smell all sorts of funky, a combination of musty odors and weed. As we made our way down the hallway, we observed several doors to rooms where the door knobs were completely missing. When we got to our room, it smelled funky just like the hallways and it didn’t appear to be very clean. We noticed the smoke detector for the room was missing and the sprinkler head by the entry door didn’t look right. To their credit, we were offered another room, but at this point we were so creeped out, we decided to cancel our reservation outright and found a different better hotel in the area to stay at.

Not friendly

I booked a room around 11:30 am and called around 1:30 pm to state my trip to visit a house for sale was cancelled and asked for a refund. They refused and had a 72 hour prior cancellation policy. I asked since I just booked a couple hours prior and they refused to add the person was very rude in her commenting back. I asked to speak with the manager and he was not there she said she would check further and called back and said he said no. This was hardship enough for us as we were on our way to Dewey from upstate NY around 100 miles into the trip and since the viewing of the house was cancelled there was no sense in driving 200 more miles to stay a night and drive 300 miles home with 2 small dogs. I was not told that there were no cancellations allowed for the same day booking not that I thought I was going to have to cancel. Although I wish I waited as apparently they had plenty of rooms available when I called. Very poor customer service and lost a customer who frequents stays in Delaware and am looking to move to the state eventually.
