10 Motels in Byron Bay: Best hotel deals for 2023

May 16, 2023 Emerita Lamoureux

Byron Bay's beaches are dotted with lighthouses and surrounded by bottlenose dolphins, rays, whales and sea turtles. This former New South Wales whaling station turned tourist town is still strongly influenced by its recent bohemian past, when hippie lifestyles flourished. Bongos and didgeridoos sound in parks, sarongs and dreadlocks are common, and vegetarian restaurants abound. Give in to the casual vibe and stroll between beaches and bars for a low-key and happy day.

Bad experience

Reviewed By NicciL86

The outside light was on right outside our room ALL NIGHT. The curtains aren’t block out at all and the bed is 1 metre from the window so it felt like daylight all night long and made sleeping next to impossible. I told Waves reception on check-out and she didn’t have a clue but said she’d ask maintenance (no apology). 48 hours after I checked out and handed the keys to reception I received a text stating my credit card had been charged $51 for losing a key. They did eventually refund this after I explained I’d handed both back at check out but receiving this msg and charge was a huge insult simply because they couldn’t find a key 2 days later! They didn’t even apologise for the accusation. A simple check of security cameras at the time of check out would have shown we’d handed both keys back.
The rooms are nice and clean and location is fantastic but at $200 per night it’s just not worth it.

Nice motel with spacious rooms We stayed a night here when travelling north, it is an attractive motel with ground floor and first floor rooms. The upper rooms have a balcony but are accessed by outdoor stairs (with handrail). The rooms are spacious with kettle etc. They have a strict no party rule and no groups . There is onsite parking and it is walking distance to the town centre. It was a quiet, clean place to stay.

AN OASIS On A Very Busy Road

Reviewed By 58Green

My husband and I stayed at The Sunseeker last week of January 2022. After many months of changing bookings, and re booking it was wonderful to finally be at The Sunseeker. To finally meet the amazing team of Mia, Tilly, Jimmy and the gang (so sorry you were all so kind and friendly and I have forgotten all your names, forgive me) From the minute I entered the reception area I felt at home .Nothing was to much trouble. We stayed in one of the smaller rooms, which was more than comfortable, and the access to the pool perfect, outside the door. The pool area was for me the highlight, an OASIS, with its surrounding garden and area near by to sit and eat. Cold water on tap and for the little people it was Kiddy heaven, go karts, trampoline and play equipment all there to be played on and enjoyed. Our children live in Byron and now ovoid is behind us (hopefully) we hope to visit very regularly. The Sunseeker is our preferred home away from home. Thank you look forward to seeing you in March.

The Gates of Wrath (with apologies to Steinbeck)

Reviewed By Rob H

We had the ultimate misfortune of being allocated a room directly above the roller door to the underground car park. This infernal contraption sounds like a rusty medieval drawbridge powered by a tank engine. And it goes up... and it comes down....and it goes - well, you get the picture. Just plain annoying and grating during waking hours and you don't want it, but when it starts in the middle of the night it is the stuff of nightmares. Except of course, you're not asleep. The next day, on enquiring about another room, I am told, "We're booked out". Possibly by the Society for the Hearing Impaired, I am tempted to say. Surely someone must have complained before, I venture. " It's a new gate" I am told. I purchase industrial grade earplugs and brace myself for the next night. At 5.34 a.m the first insomniacs leave. Better than the previous night, but I don't do 5.34 a.m when I'm on what I had hoped would be a relaxing and restful break. Very soon, light begins to fill the room, with its easterly aspect and woefully inadequate curtains. That's it for sleep. Yes, the place as almost as many steps as the Great Pyramid of Cheops and no lift, but anything else, good or bad, pales into irrelevance when you are chronically sleep deprived and disappointed. We left feeling old and tired, rather like our impression of the place itself.

Do not stay here!!!

Under the current circumstances of Covid-19 being rampant in Byron Bay I didn’t want to risk taking my 6 month old baby who is unvaccinated. They were completely unaccommodating even when they acknowledge that Covid is everywhere in Byron. I asked if they would be kind enough to offer me a credit so we can use the accommodation at a later time. They refused. They weren’t even interested in discussing the matter in further detail. Do not book here.
