Terrible room, terrible food, terrible front desk, terrible toilets. Just terrible.

Room has no hooks to hang your wet towels. Bed has an odour. Breakfast is crap except for the porridge, I dont know what jack I'm eating. The front desk ladies have very poor experience, takes a billion years per guest and they did not follow the queue to serve guests. Toilet sink has a beautiful design but does not work nor have Basic handwash soap. One of the wooorrrrssssttttt places I have ever visited in Taiwan. Close it down really.

Get the 50sqm family room with 1.5m hot spring bath and mountain and 'river' view

Reviewed By maryyeo

We were considering between Volando Urai the most famous 5-star hotel which was 200metres away and this hotel, but our desire for two double beds in a room made us choose this one. We loved it for so many reasons: 1. This family room was humongous! Both beds where king beds and they even provided extra beddings in their four-panel huge wardrobe, which I presume is for any extra guests who will be sleeping on the floors, which I'm sure with that space can accommodate another four persons at least. 2. The 1.5-metre bath comes with hot spring and all four of us fit in with room to spare. A bit of casual chat with the locals and research made us aware that the water here is pH-neutral sodium bicarb and carbonic, thus good for skin revitalization as compared to those at Beitou which are sulphurized thus better for dry/itchy skin. We loved how nature provides different 'hot springs' for different health purposes! We did not use the public bath at all since we could have our 'beauty soaks' right in our room! 3. Our room was obviously the "VIP room" of this hotel since it had its own private stairs and landing, unlike the other rooms in this hotel with two wings. It is also right above the breakfast area and reception making it easy for us to request for help/services. This is a great tip for all our travels --- get the best room at cheaper hotels, you'll be surprised what a bargain and much better service and value-for-money you'll be getting. It's cheaper YET way better then an average room at the top hotel. 4. This room is on the side that has mountain and 'river' view. Waking up every morning to the cool mountain breeze and birds chirping was what a mountain holiday should be like. Well as for the 'river' view, since the dam was built RIGHT BESIDE this hotel, the river kind of dried up but you could still see a little of the blue carbonized hotspring water and the beautiful rock formations beneath it. Then again, that could also be one of the reasons why Volando just 200metres away could charge way higher for a view of the river (behind the dam and NOT dried up). 5. 7-11 was a 5-minute stroll away and it is a 20-minute uphill walk to the famous old street where you can find the creator of Taiwanese sausages. Or you could take a 5-minute public bus ride up which we did from diagonally opposite our hotel's lobby. Cutting through the Old street got us to the oldest cable car and Yun Hsien amusement park built in 1970s in Taiwan. More on those in other reviews.

Lush forest retreat

Reviewed By flyboyarl

This hotel was located right at the beginning of the Wulai old street, a quick 5 minute walk from the bus stop from Taipei. The hotel itself reminds me of the traditional mountainside Taiwanese with wood carved furniture adorning the lobby and dining halls. The dining halls has great ambiance with a deck overlooking the river and the area below. The hotel itself was a great deal since as part of the booking, the breakfast and dinners are both included, along with tickets to the public baths, if you so choose. Each room has their own private hot and cold tubs for thermal bathing so you never really to use the public baths. The rooms are nicely furnished with low profile beds, on tatami floors with separate bathroom/tub area. Unfortunately, with the baths in the rooms, and being in the midst of the lush forests, the humidity is quite high and the rooms have a very strong moldy smell. Turning on the provided dehumidifier helps with the moisture and the smell somewhat. The hotel has elevator from street level up to the lobby but to get to the rooms, you have to go up steps, not ideal for older people and impossible for with mobility issues.

Nice hotel

Reviewed By Dan J

The only downside is a long walk uphill from Wulai old street, taxies are available. Rooms are clean and overall hotel is clean. Bath room is nice with soaking tub and separate shower. Beds are hard but I consider this a plus. Good air conditioning. Ok breakfast included. Staff does not speak English well but we used Google translator . Overall a good hotel, but please understand it is not American style hotel, but Chinese style hotel and very enjoyable for Americans who like new experiences. 2 night's is enough to experience Wulai, I stayed 3 night's as I like to hike in the mountains and loved soaking in my private hot spring bath after hiking.

Fantastic

Reviewed By TeneSaarva

We went for a day trip in wulai. We wanted to use the hot springs but the private one, not public. They charge 500 taiwan dollar per face for one hour in a private soup bath . Was a really fantastic experience , the privacy is there so if you forgot your swim suits you don't have to worry about it. The showers are there, towels are Provided. And they give a nice complimentary drink and a desert for the same money after you finish your hot spring bath. We just walked in without reservation and they had a place for us. Will definitely return and recommend this place, absolute serenity .

Private, cosy and with your own hot spring bath!

Reviewed By Vacationalism

As usual, have to take a train down south to Xindian station and take bus 1072 up to Wulai old street. It was drizzling lightly when we alighted from the bus after 45 mins, but we took a slow stroll and enjoyed the food along the street. At the end of the street, we crossed the small bridge and around at the 'base' whereby the receptionist will call our host and the host will drive down to pick us up to the hotel. Checked in around 4pm though they said after 6pm; our room was in the block next to the hotel. It is a new building, they expanded and the new rooms come with two tubs. One for Hot water and one for cold water; so we can alternate between both and maximise it to our benefits! Didn't like that the aircon's light kept blinking the whole night. We slept well, since we utilised the hot spring bath twice :) Bfast was at the 3rd floor restaurant, buffet style and they served western eggs, ham, sausages as well as some local dishes with porridge. Enjoyed the view overlooking the mountains and we sat outdoors to enjoy the cool weather! My second time here and I will definitely come again!

Misleading photos

Reviewed By EjerEase

This hotel was a major disappointment. The location is great with stunning views of the hills but the standards of the hotel are really poor. First we were given a room that had practically no view. The Windows were covered with a plastic sheet that was glued on the glass. The room felt like a dungeon so we paid extra to move to another room. The jacuzzi facilities are in the room but they are so dirty and poorly kept that you wouldn't be tempted even with a great view of the hills to get in there. The coffee at breakfast was from a machine and was practically impossible to drink it was so bad. There is no internet in the rooms. The only places where you could get a wifi connection were the reception area which is really uncomfortable and the restaurant. The restaurant smelled really bad so don't count on staying in there to check your email.
