We were in town for one night to hang out with some friends and we all stayed at Historic Hotel Nichols. We enjoyed some wine during happy hour Friday night and then walked to a local restaurant for dinner. The sunset over Lake Michigan from the bluff at South Beach was spectacular! We drove around the area site seeing and then returned to Historic Hotel Nichols and enjoyed visiting in the lobby which overlooks a downtown street. We stayed in Room #9, The Haven Room. It was nicely decorated and the king size bed was comfortable. In the morning, we enjoyed donuts and fresh coffee in the lobby before walking to a restaurant for breakfast. Maegan and her staff are very friendly and it was a pleasure to engage them in conversation. She and her staff are also very knowledgeable of the history of Hotel Nichols which was very interesting to hear. My husband and I commented that we would certainly stay at Historic Hotel Nichols again. Oh, and the cookies in our room at check in were yummy! :)

This is lovely bed and breakfast, conveniently located to the beach as well as shops and restaurants. David greeted us and was very attentive during our short stay. We never met the owners of the place, but that didn’t detract from our experience. Our room was very nice and stocked with everything we needed. Very, very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was simple, but fresh. We will definitely return and hopefully stay longer! Thank you for a great time!!

Left Me Homeless

Reviewed By RichS6789

I had a reservation for Sunday, May 29, 2022. Went to hotel and front desk said they were oversold by 3 hotel rooms; and had no room available for me. They offered for me to stay in Holland (45 mins away) or at an unsafe sister property in South Haven (They said unsafe not me!!!). At that point, I was 4 hours from home with no place to stay. What is the point of a reservation without an available room? Prior to my reservation date, the hotel sent me multiple emails stating there would be a full day charge for a no show. But when they were a no show, what do I get back in return? A 45 minute trip to Holland with $4.60 a gallon gas? Really poor customer service!!!!!

Good bang for the buck, there are minor imperfections but at this Price and hi season this is expected. The breakfast is not that great mostly bread and carbohydrates. Overall the building was cared for and the room was clean. Everyone we encountered was very friendly and helpful. For a two or three night stay I would do it again

Fabulous Find

I have been going to South Haven on short trips on and off for many years. Many times it's been a day trip. This summer I stayed at a B&B right near the lake and it was nice. I called there in October and the owner said that he had closed for the season. I looked online and found Monroe Manor Inn Bed & Breakfast. I spoke to the owner, Rashid, and he was very accommodating from the first conversation. He gave me a good price. I stayed one night and I wish that I could have stayed longer. The place is absolutely wonderful. The master suite was beautiful. My friend came for the day from Kalamazoo, and Rashid said that she could have breakfast with me at no charge. The breakfast was great. The location is off the beaten path and very countryish, just what one could want living in the heart of Chicago. It's only a few minutes ride from the heart of town and the lake. I have been to other B&Bs in South Haven, and this one is by far the best. I can't wait to go back!!

BUGS! Rude and unresponsive

Reviewed By LostCanadianRed

We really wanted to enjoy our quick 2 nights as a place to sleep while we were working a wedding in town. I am a wedding planner with a VERY aggressive schedule over the weekend. All I required was a place to get some much needed sleep after working intense 18 hour days on Friday & Saturday. The rooms are nothing like the photos. I knew it would be tiny but not THAT tiny. My college dorm room was bigger. Regardless of the size, we were just there to sleep. We went out and bought new pillows, coffee supplies & toiletries since there is none in the room During our stay on Friday night, we had issues with the TV, which wasn't too a big deal, but just the start of a series of awful sleep. Its satellite & didn't have reception. The remote didn't work for the tv, only the satellite box (no power or volume control). When getting up in the night to use the restroom, I stepped on earwigs, and realized there were at least 4 on the floor. I tried to get more sleep, as I needed to be up for a very grueling day of work starting at 7:30am on saturday. Early Saturday morning, while in the shower, the fire alarm started going off, while I tried to deactivate it, bugs started falling out of the fire alarm. I thought I had it solved & resumed my shower. It went off again, We had to pull it off the ceiling, while more bugs continued to come out of the ceiling. We made the split decision to check out immediately. I had a very busy day, and could not take up more time trying to figure out a solution. Upon check in we were told the front desk would be open at 8am, which we did not have time to wait for. We vacated the room & I went to work. When we came back later that morning, (after having to rearrange my busy wedding schedule to make the trip back) the interaction we had with the front desk went from cordial at best to downright rude. The woman at the desk told us they were booked full & there was nothing to be done. She told us we should have called the front desk about the fire alarm. I was in a towel, with shampoo still in my hair, and barely covered, I could not have someone in my room at that moment - we were also in a time crunch. She mentioned she could move us to another room, but couldn't tell us if there would be bugs there too. If there was bugs on the 2nd floor, surely there's bugs on the first floor. She told us there was nothing to be done because I booked through expedia (we did not, we booked through United Hotels). She told us we needed to speak to a manager, but then was offended when we asked for the manager's phone number & was shocked we would actually call. I tried calling & emailing, and of course, there is no response. This place is horrible, I can't imagine having wedding guests or a wedding here like they advertise. I'd be mortified.

Disappointed

Reviewed By 424kima

Expected more for an $1100 stay for four days! They mentioned the stairs on the website, but honesty. what a mess. TWO flights of stairs to get to our room, which was a block from the hotel lobby! The room was totally dated. Furniture in bad repair. Room maid service was interesting. If you leave a tip, you get a full compliment of towels replaced each day and the room is cleaned. If you forget, you get some towels and nothing is cleaned and the waste baskets are not even emptied. The sheets were not changed one time. The view is nice, but the bars and restaurants below do take away from that! No ice, unless you walk a block to the lobby. And carry an ice bucket! Very much a convenient location so you can walk to many sites, which is a good thing since there isn't any close parking and moving your car is a mess. You will be hunting for parking and will not be closer than a block and half from the hotel. Once was enough for us.
