Inside, the hotel is decorated in modern textiles with a calm colour palette. Fabulous breakfast which is worth paying for and a great swimming pool and jacuzzi.

The owner was really attentive and made wonderful suggestions on what to see and where to eat. Great beds.

Excellent in Every Way

We pulled our car into their parking area that is secured by a door. The lady that showed us where to park grabbed our suitcases and took them straight to our room. The guy at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. You are given what we call a garage door opened so you can come and go as needed. Excellent welcome! The room was very nice. We booked the room with a terrace overlooking the backyard. We stayed for two nights so we had the chance to sit out there a couple of times. We did not book breakfast at the hotel, instead we went to a mom and pop bakery/cafe half a block from the hotel. The hotel recommended it when we told them we wanted to go somewhere else. that was nice of them. When you walk out of the hotel through the back, you go left and it's at the corner on your right. Very good cafe con leche and toasted bread. That's what we wanted and we found it there. We will definitely stay at the hotel when back in Santillana. It's very nicely decorated. We took a lot of pictures. We were told that all rooms are different, so we will book a different type of room every time we go.

From the start, the welcome we received and the friendly helpful staff made this feel a real home from home. We truly were made to feel like part of the family. Gorgeous garden and wonderfully restored old medieval building. Spotlessly clean. Rooms small but comfortable and plenty of space to relax around the balconies, garden and lounge in hotel. Parking on site. Really nice breakfasts including Cantabrian cakes and pastries to die for. In walking distance of 5 minutes to all amenities. Even got a hug when we left. Highly recommended.

Reviewed By RamYonishWe came for one night and stay for two. In the second night we upgraded for a bigger room for just a couple of euros and that was well worth it. The spa ( hot swimming pool and jacuzzi ) is amazing for the kids with just few extra euros ( 8 per each kid). Breakfast is also worth the 7 euro extra per person. It’s a 5 minutes walk from city center and 1 minuet from a nice horse ride activity for the all family. A great choice while you are in town.

Reviewed By noralibThe best is the staff: upon our arrival the manager helped us to find the closest parking spot and with our baggage. Then, he offered all the touristic information we needed, and at breakfast, we were offered an anything we wanted. The room and bathroom were clean, the bed comfortable, heated and the shower was good. The location was good and the price very convenient. Con: we, a couple, were given a 3 beds room, which meant it was a little crowded. All in all, just a minor point!

Reviewed By MartinC-TCCThis would be a great base for a holiday, although I was only staying for one night, before my ferry home. The owner was very helpful and profrssional about swapping my original booking for her other posada to this one, so that I would be able to use a nearby restaurant.

An 'older style' hotel only insofar as it has character and taste, and is not just another indistinguishable chain hotel with CNN on the TV. Modern fixtures and fittings, good internet, and large rooms and bathrooms. Very helpful desk staff. At the time of writing (16/9/2020) Tripadvisor is flagging the hotel as "temporarily closed". Don't know why, because it isn't.

Reviewed By R8927RIchriskThe Hotel Altamira is centrally located in the lovely town of Santillana del Mar. We choose to visit there in the autumn when it is a little quieter than the busy summer. The town is a great destination in itself and is excellent as a stopping place for visiting the region. In turn, the Hotel Altamira is wonderfully located. The rooms are old and full of character, the building itself is also a traveller's dream. The catering was restricted to breakfast only but this was fine, filling and plentiful. The price was also extremely reasonable. Best of all though are the people who work there. We were treated as friends of the family and nothing we asked for was a bother to them. We will definitely be booking there the next time we visit.
