Reviewed By IrlantilainenThe Hotel Katha is an attractive hotel on the NE edge of town, just past the statue of Gen. Aun on the road to Mandalay and Naba. Set in shaded gardens with a terrace bar, it offers comfortable rooms, friendly service and an OK breakfast. They can book fastboat (05h00) & bus tickets and pick-up to Mandalay, (08h00 via Schwebo, & 09h00) or fastboat to Bhamo (09h00). Book ahead - popular with local businessmen. 1 mile further out of town is the pleasant Mo Maka open air restaurant, just beyond the HTOO oil depot. Draft beer, good food. The station is down the side road behind the hotel. Overnight train to Mandalay at 13h00, connecting at Naba. Katha is a delightful little riverside town, quite apart from it's 'Burmese Days' connections. Still untouristed, well worth a visit.

Very basic hotel in Monywa that could use some updates
Reviewed By Susan OWe understood that Monywa is not much of a tourist draw so I don't think there are many hotels to choose from. Out of all of our hotels during our 2 weeks in Myanmar, this was the most basic of them all. The walls and doors in our room were very dirty and in need of cleaning and paint. The bathroom had a noticeable sewage smell and a very inconvenient showering set up. A family of 4 that we were traveling with had many cockroaches in their bathroom that must travel around through the open drains in the floors. The electric outlet in our bathroom did not work but the outlets in the rest of the room were fine and plentiful. There was a hairdryer in the room but only soap, no shampoos or lotions. The bed was comfortable and the sheets and floors appeared to be clean. I did have a good wifi connection. In the morning, they played very loud music in the hallways. It would definitely wake you up if you wanted to sleep in a bit. The hotel and rooms (at least all of our rooms) have a very institutional feel and are not warm or cozy at all. Also, the breakfast buffet had the worst selection of any hotel during our stay. There IS a good restaurant (Sky View) right next to the hotel. We ate there twice and were very happy with it. All in all, I'm not sure what you should expect from other hotels in the area. While this was an adequate place to stay for one night for us, I wish I had better things to say about it.

Reviewed By Gamecock95Fulbright Scholar staying at Chindwin for 4 months. What a quirky, well-worn place. There are issues with this hotel and it’s certainly not a five star place BUT it’s got its charms and comforts. Upper floor corner rooms have great views with lots of windows — makes the rooms feel far larger than they are. This hotel has a old-school authentic feel which far outweighs its quirks — occasional hot water issues, WiFi most but not all of the time, bizarre TV channels, and a typical but oh so repetitive breakfast. Still, the front desk folks are terrific, the restaurant is fine, the roof top bar offers the best views in town. All this and it’s probably the best priced place in Monywa. While Monywa doesn’t appear to be on the Myanmar must see list — the lucky few who get off the Yangon Mandalay Bagan trail will find something uniquely Burmese both in Monywa and Hotel Chindwin. Simply put, highly recommended.

Reviewed By Michael SWe stayed in Hotel Moe for 7 nights. One of those days we booked out to travel overnight to another town. On our return, we were warmly welcomed back with excitement by the staff. Continuous hot water for showing. As you need to be aware in these outlying towns that this is not the norm. When requesting room service, staff were always prompt, coming within 10 minutes or less. The rooms are fresh and clean, with good air conditioning. On the fifth floor is a great restaurant. If you request your clothes to be laundered, it will be back with you within the day and at a reasonable price. I congratulate all staff for the commitment to service. I have no hesitation in recommending Hotel Moe. Look I forward the staying there in the future.

Good choice for a remote location
Reviewed By ThantZawA family run small hotel but it is not a boutique. I stayed there only one night. Room is clean and comfortable but the bath room is rather small. Great location in walking distance to the river side, jetty, night market and the main market. The best is the breakfast with great view of sunrise on the Ayeyarwady river. Besides, you can also taste several local authentic food for breakfast. For sure, it is a great choice in a small remote town.

Reviewed By dastburytravelsIf you are looking for relaxation by a pool, good food, fantastic breakfast, friendly staff and great location then this is the place to stay when in Monywa. We extended our stay here two times because of the experience. The staff couldn’t be more helpful or friendlier annnnd the pool! I have never swam in such a clean pool! The guy cleaning the pool takes his job very seriously and it pays off! We found a little peace of paradise in Monywa and if we are ever in town again we know where we will stay!

Reviewed By CheccoForgione1887Staff were very attentive and always smiled however this property has a few flaws - it's not centrally located so to get to town and/or up to the rock you need to either walk to the town centre or hire a driver to get there. Restaurants service was friendly but the dishes were uninspiring to be generous and they were served incredibly slowly. breakfast even worse I am afraid. no wifi in rooms, lobby only. toilet not that inviting but clean. for the price paid this is a solid 3* review but could easily be 2* if the prices will go up in the near future.

One of them even offered to drop us in a recommended restaurant from the reception and we were really satisfied for what we got and the cheapest price. Breakfast is a must to try with egg and pancake station! The rooftop has a nice view from the city and it does have free bicycles!!!! The rooms are big and comfortable! Toilet is clean and super spacious! We loved it ! Plus they sell bus ticket which is very reliable and same price as in the bus station.

Reviewed By BillandDenise11Friendly and always helpful staff.throughout the hotel and restaurant. Beautiful lobby! Comfortable room. Especially enjoyed the complimentary hot breakfast buffet. Hosted a large lunch gathering which was also very good. Only problem we had was it was difficult to adjust the water temperature to warm but not too hot or cold in the bath. Laundry services was inexpensive, quick and very good.
