A nice "Nonchain" Hotel

Saco Motel Saco A great "Non-Chain" hotel 814498673 We always have a little extra concern when we stay in a "Non Chain" hotel. Not that chain (Choice, Wyndam, etc.) have always met reasonable expectations. However, with a "Mom and Pop" ownership you miss out on having the corporate entity available to voice your concerns at if the property is not as presented. That being said, Saco Motel was a the least what we expected. This motel was perfect for us to stay overnight on the way to Acadia, both on the way up and on the way back. I wanted to visit the Old Orchard Beach of my youth and share it with my wife, The focus of this early Fall trip was hiking, as opposed to sunning. Lets face it, all hotels in touristy areas are priced at more than what I want to pay. Compared to other options, Saco Motel worked well for us.

Some good but a lot of issue

Reviewed By beverlyg848

First time visiting OOB. This is an older motel. It sits right off a main road and 195 runs along the back of the property. There is a decent tree buffer between the buildings and 195. It has a combination of motel style buildings with the standard type motel room and stand alone cottages. The landscaping is nice and well maintained. The interiors though are in desperate need of updating, repairs and a thorough cleaning. This was a family visit. We had 2 rooms - king motel room and a cottage. Both were dirty and needed a good scrub - motel room had hair in the bathroom, both rooms had dirt in the corners and very old/dirty carpeting. Dust collected on all baseboards and the heating covers were dirty and had quite a bit of rust - need to be painted or replaced. Toilets functioned but had stains (indication they aren’t cleaned well or issue with water?). The curtains in the cottage were coming off the rod. It had a kitchen with a couple of pans and absolutely no eating or cooking utensils. The kitchen did have a decent amount of counter space along with fridge, 2 burner cooktop and a microwave. Meals could have been prepared if there were utensils. Towels while not thick and fluffy were clean which is a big plus. The bathroom in the motel room was tiny and had the toilet and shower with the sink outside the bath area. I guess this is to be expected for a property of this age. No water pressure in the shower made it difficult to wash and get rinsed off. The bed spreads were the horrible patterned nylon and who knows the last time they were washed/changed out as I never observed housekeeping changing them when cleaning rooms after someone checked out. The Game room and pool areas are indoors and were not air conditioned so they get very uncomfortable during the extreme heat of the summer. They do have a nice screened gazebo and each cottage had a small picnic table and a swing plus a grill. The grills require charcoal and the one outside our cottage was rusted out with a large hole making it unusable. Parking is available outside each room or cottage but there is only one spot available per room/cottage. Overall a basic low end motel with a few amenities.

Clean but Outdated

We only stayed overnight so this room was okay. It was clean! Bathroom old but spotless! Very sparsly furnished. Electric sockets hardly held plugs for cellphone chargers because they were old and too large, could not turn off ceiling fan! Had tiny microwave and tiny fridge. No amenities at all. But if you need just to crash for the night and bare-bones does not bother you, then this is fine. Owners are very nice! And the price was reasonable! We paid $69plus tax for one night.

For a couple dollars each, we hopped on and enjoyed a beautiful day at the beach and bars - no traffic, no parking fees, no hassle. This place is a gem!

Cabins need a deep cleaning.

Reviewed By Shelley07

We stayed last weekend for a long weekend and had a couple problems but the biggest problem we saw was that these cabins need a deep cleaning. The floors need to be thoroughly washed, not just swept. The blinds were very dusty and dirty and one blind even had mold growing off of it. We were the first to stay in the cabin this year and there was no hot water, but they did fix it after we called the office to let them know. The staff there is great, and they do take care of every issue you bring to them, but we wish the cabins were more clean. We did enjoy our stay but if they cleaned better it would be a 5.

Clean, comfy accommodations!

Reviewed By kbt4me

First off, the bed in my room was SUPER comfy! The best I've slept in at a hotel in quite a while. Stayed two nights, and never woke up with a sore back. Pillows were also great, too - and that's what you want, right? A good night's sleep? The room was very clean, well-appointed; an adequate number of towels - and they, too, were bright and clean (not dingy, as white towels can become). Hotel was generally quiet, except for the occasional banging of a closing door (it is a hotel). Breakfast was a real breakfast (not a "grab a muffin and run" affair). That said, the omelettes the first morning could have been maintained at a warmer temp. The scrambled eggs the next morning were hotter. Coffee was good - and is available throughout the day and evening. You can make your own waffles. Cereals and hot oatmeal are available (the oatmeal was hot!). Staying with your favorite dog? There are plenty of places to walk/potty your pooch. This is a dog-friendly hotel, and clean places like this are hard to find when you are traveling with your dog for competitions or pleasure. Comfort Inn recently bought this hotel from another chain, and I was a bit concerned that the standards might have slipped, but not so. Easy on, easy off the highway, and conveniently located, too.

We booked a reservation to stay here thru Hotels.com. It's definitely a motel ! It was clean, though outdated. No screens in the windows ~ we wanted to let the fresh air in as it was beautiful out. It was a cabin so we had a stove and large fridge. You get what you pay for. The convenience of the kitchen and fridge was good. The bed was very uncomfortable.
