An unforgettable stay

Reviewed By meadylou

There simply aren't enough words to describe how perfect our stay with Jeeves and Shervonne was. We spent 2 nights here during our honeymoon and wish we could have stayed longer! The setting is absolutely stunning - we stayed in the treehouse, which we would wholly recommend for a truly unique experience. Waking up in the treetops with views over the lake was just magical - and yet you still have all the comforts you need (including a very comfortable bed). We loved enjoying a cold beer on our balcony, or in the organic swimming pool after a hot day on safari. The food is incredible - so fresh and authentic, without doubt the best food we had during our whole trip. No two meals were ever the same! We really appreciated Jeeves taking the time to explain the different dishes to us, and how to eat them. But what made our stay really unforgettable is the warmth and hospitality of our hosts and the whole Ibis team. Shervonne was so helpful in the run up to our trip, giving us lots of tips and advice. She arranged a safari jeep and naturalist for us to visit Wilpattu national park. We were lucky enough to see 4 leopards, as well as elephants, buffalo, deer, and many other birds and wildlife. We have heard really mixed reviews about some of the other national parks in Sri Lanka so we were really glad we made the decision to come to Wilpattu. And Jeeves was the most gracious host, taking excellent care of us throughout our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our conversations - and it was such a happy surprise to see you both again in Galle! Finally, we loved the whole ethos at the Ibis - employing people from the local village, and investing profits back into the community as much as possible. The Ibis Wilpattu was one of the highlights of our trip and we will definitely be back one day. If you are considering this place, just book it - you will not regret it!

Bethany 101

Bethany 101 was built more than 170 years ago, at the beginning of the British Colonial era, and has offered its residents luxurious accommodation, world class cuisine, and an environment of inspiring beauty ever since. The manor’s décor is faultlessly classic and was meticulously renewed to its original splendour in 2013, incorporating many original antique fittings and furniture in the style of old Ceylon. We are happy to say that Bethany 101 is more resplendent today than it has ever been throughout its long history making it the premier boutique hotel in the Kalpitiya and Puttalam areas. The entire villa plays host to only six guest bedrooms, assuring you of a private and exclusively luxurious stay. Outside, commodious verandas with easy chairs sweep around the manor, offering an unobstructed view of an oasis like garden with an expansive lawn and an exquisite swimming area, all shaded by frangipani trees. Bethany 101 is a paradise boutique hotel and complete five star holiday destination. It has been our family home for generations, and our goal is to make it feel like your home as well. Our staff value hospitality and service very highly, and work to make every detail of your stay perfect. Nestled between the shore of pristine Puttalam Lagoon and the sheer majesty of Sri Lanka’s dry zone in the north western province, Bethany 101 is centrally located in Puttalam, just footsteps from town. We are also minutes from Kalpitiya, which is Sri Lanka’s premier dolphin and whale-watching hotspot. It also offers some of the best Kite Surfing in Sri Lanka. A short drive will take you to Wilpattu National Park, the island’s largest wildlife reserve, legendary for leopards and sloth bears. Anuradhapura, the greatest of Sri Lanka’s ancient capitals, is little more than an hour away, making it a comfortable and rewarding day trip.

A fine and friendly place

Reviewed By SJayawardena

We stepped into Bethany 101, taking deep breaths of the scent of jasmine growing profusely in the garden. The two-night stay was punctuated (but not interrupted) by thoughtful gestures made by discreet staff, whose contribution to making our stay a happy one cannot be understated. The food was flavourful – a particular word of praise for Pradeep, who made the tastiest tomato curry I've ever eaten. I also wish to express my admiration and gratitude for the kindness with which the many pet dogs, who occupy the neighbouring compound, are treated. Thank you, everyone, for warming the heart and raising the spirits.
