This is a lovely hotel. We loved it. Easy to find … park outside the gates, go to plaza mayor (easy to find in LaGuardia) and the Hospederia is right there. We took a superior room as a treat and it was spot on for our needs. Free ‘vino + tapas’ token per person too - which you use in the hotel’s cellar from 7.30pm. The cellar is one of the honeycomb of wine cellars within the city walls which is the reason why no cars are inside the walls … plus the street size! Parking easy too … all within a short walk and free. Staff friendly but if you can try to use at least a bit of Spanish, that will, as always, help you along. Breakfast good and although we did not use the restaurant, it looked good. Friendly but formal.

Beautiful

Reviewed By TravelLovers2

Even though we are Bonvoy members we decided not to stay since we wanted something more in an open area where we could visit other parts of La Rioja. Also, the busy schedule we had did not allow us to take a tour. But, we showed up one late afternoon and asked at the information center if we could go to the bar inside the hotel and have some tapas and drinks. To our surprise, they said yes and so we were allowed to enter the grounds. We had been told that you cannot go in to see the hotel unless you are on a bodega tour or a guest at the hotel. It was worth a try. It's sad that such beautiful architecture is being tucked away only for a few to experience. We sat in the outside area of the bar where we were able to enjoy some tapas and wine for a couple of hours. Another beautiful design by Frank Gehry that we were able to admire up close. Maybe next time we may choose to stay here.

Under an unprecedented natural environment, it is specially designed for couples or families looking for a relaxed stay, isolated from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Good wine and gastronomic routes are some of the activities that you can find in the hotel. The hotel has 84 rooms and an excellent spa with the latest wine and olive oil treatments. It has two magnificent restaurants, the Medoc Alaves and the Bistró the Villa. We advise you to tour the provinces of Logroño and Álava on horseback and feel the freedom that the environment offers us. We also have a swimming pool, wine cellar, wine cellar and extensive gardens for children's play. Pets are allowed on request with a maximum weight of 8 kg with a supplement of € 20 for day. Ask us about the terms and conditions.

We booked two nights at this 4* ? Hotel I would not rate this and more than 3 stars no condiments in rooms to make tea or coffee , no room service every day fresh towels etc, mini bar badly stocked witch they charge for. But the one thing that was very annoying was we had ants ? in the room from the first day by the time we were leaving they were everywhere in the room and bathroom couldn't get out quick enough

This is such a lovely, friendly hotel. The views over the forested city are just the best view perhaps of any hotel we've ever been in. The staff throughout are amazing - so helpful and friendly. Big shout out especially to Allende in the restaurant who is an absolute credit to the hotel - made us feel so welcome and special. Overall, we can't wait to be back - great hotel and more importantly, great staff! Congratulations to the management on having such a special place.

Erletxe

In a little town called Laguardia there's a solace for the tired, stressed traveler: it's a house we call Erletxe, where troubles fade into the warm and soft murmur of country life. Surrounded by nature, history and life, this country house has been offering accommodation to whoever seeks it under its roof — and leaving good memories in the minds of those of us lucky enough to share the slow flow of time inside its walls.

Wonderful place and the owners are SO helpful

We had a beautiful room with a view of the fields outside the city wall. Laura is the best tour guide, ever! She gave us great advice (and even called to make reservations) on bodega tours and historical sites. There are so many wineries in the caves beneath the city that it would have been hard to decide. The ones she suggested were perfect for us - the oldest, Casa Primicia, and the one still producing wine within the city walls, Bodega El Fabulista. The 2 tours were quite different and complimented each other. We also visited a great castle on our way to our next location, at her suggestion.

Excellent Stay

Reviewed By TravelLovers2

We booked a premium room that has a balcony with two chairs and a small table to look out to the vineyards and the beautiful surrounding area. The room was very comfortable. The breakfast was included in our rate and it had good options to get your day started. The location of the hotel was perfect for us to explore La Rioja for 3 days. The staff was friendly and attentive. You have parking right outside the hotel. Very interesting how you go down to your floor instead of going up. The check in area is the first thing you walk into. As you're going down on the elevator, you can see their bodega and the long lines of barrels. On one of the days we were there, we took a tour of their bodega and was very impressed. We would definitely stay here again when we return to La Rioja.

Scary movie

To be honest this place wasn't even that bad if you don't care about getting a decent hello in the morning from any member of staff. They change your towels, make your bed etc. The noise is abit much the walls are quite thin but wasn't that bad, I wouldn't even be writing this review if some robocop on a power trip on the last night (as we returned back with bottled water on a Saturday night) told us we couldn't speak to each other in the rooms or have the telly on at all because the hotel walls where thin and if we did he would be knocking on our door....literally felt like he was going to come threw the door like a bat out of hell if we spoke.... Spooked Serious staff customer service needed Maybe a wash outside for the piss smell wouldn't hurt too...

Nice Hotel in Vitoria

Reviewed By Billy B

The property was pleasant. The desk manager ….. I am sorry I cant remember his name but he as absolutely amazing. Accommodating, helpful and polite. Most of the staff was also very kind folks who spoke English very very well. The gym could use more options and free weights. The menu in the restaurant was a bit too limited and the food was not really that good for dinner services. But the breakfast was outstanding. The lounge bar was cute place to have a drink. The balcony rooms were also quite pleasant. Nice view not too noisy. So over all for a small city hotel it a good affordable option.

Avoid If You Value Your Sleep

Reviewed By OleDunk

My only expectation of a Holiday Inn Express (HIE) is a clean room that allows a good night sleep. I expect the room to be basic. But I also expect to be able to sleep. Upon arrival guests queued out of the door to check in, the receptionist doing the best she could, but one receptionist cannot deal with multiple guests at the same time. This is road stop hotel, it will by busy with arriving guests at a similar time each day, plan for it! The check in queue lasted until around 11.30pm as the patient and hardworking receptionist tried her best under difficult circumstances. I know this as in total I spent over 60 minutes queuing. I had experienced problems with another HIE nearby in Bilbao turning off air-conditioning in bedrooms to save cost so I checked in advance with this hotel that the air-conditioning was working. Well it was and it wasn't! My room's air-conditioning was not working, blowing no air and making a loud noise. So back to queue in reception to change room. The replacement room was only slightly better as the air-conditioning had been set to not allow a temperature below 22C, so hot uncomfortable night with little sleep. Not good anytime but especially in August and when at the end of a long drive and a long way to drive the next day. I get the feeling that this hotel has taken cost control to the extreme. Everything possible had been removed from the room, kettle, cups etc, I am told due to Covid infection control. OK, but to not even provide the usual HIE disposable plastic wrapped cups in the bathroom is extreme. I had forgotten to bring water with me, so in a hot night was reduced to using my hands to gather tap water. I shall avoid HIE in Northern Spain in future .

Hotel Viura

Composed of whimsically superimposed cubes that seem to surge forcefully from the centre of the earth; punctuated by French windows that flood the rooms with views of the relaxing scenery. Situated in Villabuena de Álava in the Rioja Alavesa, Viura is perfect as a base for discovering La Rioja. Only 20 minutes away from Logroño and from Haro and 10 minutes from such emblematic wine cellars as Ysios and Marqués de Riscal. In addition to its magnificent restaurant, the bar, a fine old wine cellar and a gymnasium, Viura has wonderful terraces on the top floor with panoramic views of the San Andrés Church, built between 1538 and 1728, and of all the mountains of the Sierra de Cantabria. All hotel guests have at their disposal, without any charge, wireless internet connection, soft drinks from the mini-bar, gym access, bicycles and parking. The hotel also offers dvd players and a wide range of movies on DVD, for free.

Self service hotel in the middle of nowhere

Reviewed By up_closeandpersonal

“Design” itself is not good enough to be a good hotel and this hotel unfortunately is not an exception. There is absolutely nothing special about this hotel apart from its architecture and interior design elements. To begin with the service, I understand that May is not the high season some cost measures are taken but such measures jeopardize the service quality significantly. The same four- five employees keep wondering around, tryng to be everything for everyone- with all the good intentions but it really doesn't work. At times, you feel there are no employees in the hotel but only guests. And therefore you either start looking for them here and there or you need to help yourself. On the food & beverage side: The breakfast is quite weak, other meal menu options are limited and the taste is hardly average (which is a real disappointment in that region of Spain); of course, if you can order your food. Accommodation experience is nowhere close to a real 4-star hotel, the rooms lack many amenities, mini bars are not re-filled, AC works when it feels like working. As for the location, there’s nothing to see in walking distance, one tiny shop (like a market), if you can find it open. The village is so silent, so isolated, without absolutely anyone on the streets. May be May not was the best time to be there. Our stay was not a 4-star experience at all and apart from that, was rather disappointing.
