Aminess Maestral Hotel

Our 4-star hotel, grown on the tradition of Istrian hospitality, offers modern outlook on the Mediterranean. Unimposing, but well-appointed, Hotel Maestral puts the accent on simple enjoyment. With 308-room capacity, abundant hotel facilities, vicinity of the beach for daily enjoyment of sea and sun, as well as the vicinity of Novigrad for evening outings and relaxation, Hotel Maestral will delight you. The sign of bike-hotel points the guest to the stay in a hotel which is additionally equipped to welcome cyclists and is, beside other things, ideal for stays by smaller or larger groups of cyclists, as a starting point of their cyclist trail throughout Istria. Since it is only 150 metres away from the sea, Maestral will particularly suit those who wish to spend every moment of their holiday on the beach, using their holiday for swimming, sunbathing and water sports. On the other hand, only 800 meters divides it from the picturesque small town of Novigrad, tickling every curious guest by different summer events, inviting him for an occasional outing to the town. A doctor's surgery is just 300 metres away from the Hotel and can be useful should you travel with children or groups of youths.

10 nights at Aminess

Reviewed By Alexandra A

We stayed her for 10 nights 24th September - 05th October. We arrived early and as expected rooms weren't ready and we were told we could only check in at 15:30 and directed to the pool bar where the bar staff were very friendly and attentive. Whilst sat there we noticed that there were seagull in the pool which we thought strange because we had never seen this anywhere else we had been on holiday. At half three we went up to check in which was nice and easy and we were told we would have to come down for dinner early but the following evenings would be the later sitting which some members of our group were disgruntled about. We later discovered that this was due to the fact the hotel were holding a wedding until 4am and would be using a large portion of the restaurant and staff for this. I understand that they hold functions but hotel guests are also paying guests and shouldn't be shunted around and we would soon learn this sort of thing was going to become a regular situation in the evening (I will expand further down on this). Upon arriving in our room the toilet hadn't been cleaned yet the staff had put the seal across the door to say it had been. The toilet still had urine in it and on it. We went and spoke to reception to get this sorted but the house keeping didn't seem very happy about having to come back up and clean it. Rooms are quite small in size but adequate enough. The hotel runs an eco scheme whereby if you hang the bag out that is on the handle on the door before midnight they will know you don't require the room cleaning and will put a surprise in the bag as a thank you. Not entirely sure what was going on with the air con but the first week we were at the hotel it worked but then on the second week it wouldn't switch on which makes me assume the hotel had switched it off throughout. This made sleeping quite unpleasant as the room would go between 25 - 27 degrees in the night which was hotter than outside most days. We booked our holiday through TUI on a half board basis, wish we hadn't but to some extent it was a good job we did as come 1st October restaurants in Novigrad began to shut. The first evening we had to eat early due to the wedding being held and upon entering you are greeted by a very pleasant gentleman who explains how the service works and finds you a table. We noticed that it was self service which in light of the current world situation we weren't overly pleased about. Food was very repetitive and generally there was pork every evening (not great if you don't eat pork...) and guests seem to be incompetent of using the correct serving spoons/tongs for meats, cheeses and vegetables if you're a vegetarian and don't like the idea of your food products being contaminated this isn't the hotel for you as guests have no regard for anyone other than themselves we found and it got to the point they didn't even use the tongs to get bread/ cheese and were just picking things up with their hands (COVID?!?) nothing was said to these people either. No one followed the social distancing in place and hand sanitiser was only really available as you walked into the restaurant. We stayed in Turkey last year and have to say the set up there for food was far better, food and plates were behind plastic screens and it was served to you by chefs to avoid multiple people touching the serving utensils which in my opinion worked better, avoided mounds of waste and was more sanitary/ covid safe. During our stay multiple coach trips turned up and this again began to cause issues at breakfast/ dinner as the hotel was reserving whole sections of the restaurant for these guests but this then meant that there weren't enough tables for other guests. On our final evening dinner was chaos because of this it got to the point that the waiters were having to drag tables in from the outside to be able to seat families together. Unfortunately management don't get the brunt of the disgruntled guests the waiting staff do. One family sat next to us and removed a reserved sign which caused problems but at the end of the day just because some groups are coming via coach doesn't mean they have any more right to sit somewhere when we are all paying guests and I think this seriously needs looking at. I will also say we were all very shocked that we didn't contract covid from this setting, no masks being worn by guests, coughing and self service. The pool are was very quiet and it was never a problem getting sun loungers together. The pool looks lovely but it did have quite a-lot of floating grime in it and is freezing. Seagulls come regularly and bathe, poop and drink from the pool which isn't pleasant and I understand that there isn't a great deal that can be done about it but still not pleasant. We only saw the pool being cleaned once whilst there. Novigrad is about a 10 - 15 minute walk from the hotel if you walk along the costal path or go down the main road. We started to just eat out in the evenings due to the standards in the restaurant and the lack of variety but once 1st October hit a large majority of restaurants shut for the season. We found the restaurants to be very well priced and the food was delicious. Personally we wouldn't return to the hotel again it was chaotic in places didn't feel very covid safe and there wasn't a great deal going on. In the evenings there was live music but it was the same thing every evening and generally more geared towards older German guests yet there were various nationalities and age ranges. This hotel needs to put more consideration into how best to service all guests not just some. This hotel is classed as a TUI platinum range hotel but in comparison to others in the range we have stayed at this just doesn't compare.

The service provided by the staff and the warm friendly atmosphere is unforgettable. Everywhere is spotlessly clean. The rooms are small but it didnt seem to matter. The buffet has a wide range of very tasty food. Always very very clean and presentable. The manager and staff always make sure every looks nice and tidy.never a dirty plate on the table. The hotel has a three star rating It should have five stars for the things that make a wonderful stay. Cant wait to come back and stay again in the near future.

Minibar was so good hidden and take time to find. In the room was very annoying sound which i could not identify. Sound was disturbing sleep. On the end i have managed sleep with one hand pressing ear. In sunset i waked up and was trying to find source of sound. On roof exactly above roofs 11 and 12 was fan which have probably bearings warned out and was vibrating and producing disturbing sound. I went on reception and complained. Personnel was trying convince me that i am first who complained and that they don't know about what i am complaining what pissed me off. On the end they admitted that this is well known problem and that they tried solve without problem. It was my first and last stay in this hotel.

Thw appartments are located approxinately 1.5km from Novigrad and are directly on the beach. The appartment we stayed in was Erica Lux 1. The appartment was small but cozy. The kitchen was well furbished, it also had a dishwasher. We liked its proximity to the beach. There is also pleanty of shadow on the beach. Booked through Booking. However our appartment came without an appropriate terrace and I was a bit disappointed because of that. We are planning to come again, but we will definitely try to book a different appartment maybe the one looking directly to the sea. The only minus is the sewage - apparently there were some problems with the sewing system and there were moments when the entire village was filled with bad smell. The overall experience however was good and definitely a place to reccomend.

Surprising!

In start od June we decided to stay in Novigrad over night. We did not expect so much...but we were surprised. Ste stuff in this family hotel was friendly, receptionist was kind and she take time to show us where are all informations (wi-fi code, map of Novigrad) and where is our room and how works electricty. The room was clean and pleasantly cool. Breakfast was included in price and I can tell, that I was on one way surprised. You can eat eggs, 3 sorts of salami, chesse, butter, jam, honey, yogurt. For drink you can get coffee, tea and juice. The little minus was that we have to be careful in our bathroom on toilet tank. If you push button to much then water leak all the time. I saw that receptionist had little problems with german speaking guests. When we were paying, we did not get a bill in paper.
