Great room but awful food

Reviewed By robbersdog

We had an annexe room which was not a problem as it was spacious and modern with a lovely wet room , no complaints at all . The dinner in the hotel restaurant was one of the worst meals I have ever had in France , the lemon chicken was a disgrace really as it consisted of mainly chicken skin and bones ! The vegetables were overcooked and lukewarm . The starters and the desserts were ok and the bottle of wine was the best bit of our meal . I would stay at the hotel again but I wouldn’t eat there unless they change the chef.

Sadly we had some issues.

Our arrival couldn't have been nicer. The hotel entrance is in a one car wide road and parking is in the cathedral square 20 yards away. We stopped our car by the entrance to the hotel dumped our bags which were immediately collected by Julia and taken into the hotel. The entrance to the hotel lives up to its advertising the décor is lovely, we were upgraded and this too was the case in the very spacious suite we were taken to. When settling in I need to go to the bathroom and after washing my hands I could not empty the basin because the plug was not connected to the plunger. I noticed that there was a huge range of high quality toiletries on the shelf in front of the twin basins – including shower gel, shampoo. I wondered what was in the shower to find three brackets but no toiletries and then when I closed the shower door there was a loud clunk from the lower hinge. I then went into the otherwise beautifully appointed bedroom to see a bare wall above the bed with two screws in the wall but no other adornment. It was a lovely big bed but we like to have individual bedding so asked for single duvets. We got a duvet each but they were for double beds so very wide. When we locked to door at night the security chain was distinctly fiddly. Going to bed my wife found the duvet too wide and too hot. We tried to turn on the air conditioning but failed. Then next morning as cars were driving down the little road by the entrance we found the double glazing was just not enough to keep the noise out. I made a list of problems. After an adequate but not remarkable breakfast we had a discussion with Julia who came to the room, saw the issues took the list of issues and apologized. She couldn’t sort out the A/C controls either and as she was leaving the outside door handle came off in her hand. In fairness when we returned to the suite after lunch everything except the dodgy shower door hinge was fixed, there was a bottle of wine for us. Before we went to bed and the staff were turning down the beds they closed the shutters on the windows. We slept much better. On leaving there were again profuse apologies from Julia and, without asking, a significant discount on the bill. We think that Julia did a good job recovering from a difficult situation. However talking to other people in Mirepoix we understand that there have been a number of recent changes of ownership and financial issues during covid. There are clearly maintenance issues and it is difficult to recommend this hotel until the attention to detail and management of maintenance is returned to a standard one would expect in this class of hotel.

Excellent B&B and Gorgeous food

Reviewed By Sasha P

We were recommended this by French friends, this is a fantastic B&B. Firstly it has the view to die for that we all dream of. 2ndly the rooms are perfect. Bathrooms excelllent. Beds at first seem hard but are very comfortable and the place is always very clean. But most importantly Florence is an exceptional cook and we had 3 nights of gorgeous meals and perfect breakfasts. She and her brother are completely charming and along with your host (their father) they provide a warm welcome (and if you are lucky you might have the opportunity to have a chat with their mum). I would highly recommend this place. It would also suit walkers as it is very close to the GR7, excellent panoramic views walking in both directions. We were apparently some of the first English to stay in 15 years. When in France it is often best to say that you come from Scotland, Ireland or Wales rather than England.... La Trille is very busy with French retirement aged guests who travel far to come to this wonderful farm house My only comment is that dinner is normally set for 7.30pm which personally, is a bit early for us but i fully understand their need Priced correctly and representing good value for money We loved it here and would happily come back

Excellent but...

Lovely four bedroomed chamber d'hote near the centre of Mirepoix. Very comfortable rooms and attentive management. Nice pool and `Hammam. Be aware the bedrooms are two on the first floor and two on the top floor. There is no lift so perhaps not ideal for some elderly. There is no air conditioning which was a serious negative as it was 38 degrees when we stayed. The is a small fan but quite noisy. Breakfast is superb and cannot be faulted. Another negative for some is that they don't allow children.

We were in a nice large space on the top floor with our own bathroom which was great. It was very hot out so it was hot inside (though that’s the fault of no one but nature). If you are looking for unique accommodation and are not focused on amenities, this is the place for you.

Great location, fantastic French experience

Wonderful place to spend some time - authentic French market on Monday was amazing - right by our door. Great choice of cafes and restaurants. The information centre very helpful and we had many wonderful day trips exploring the region and each night we returned to the comfort and cleanliness of the gite. Afternoon swims in the river - 10 minutes walk away - were so welcome in the heat. Beautiful village with both history and charm - quiet with not too many tourists. Have just loved our time here with the super helpful hostess!!! Highly recommend.

Domaine Thomson

Domaine Thomson is a lovely 1830s farmhouse in a small village in the Ariege region of the Midi Pyrenees. It is a great place to `get away from it all` without being too `far from the madding crowd`. A 15 minute drive from Mirepoix, and 1 hour from Carcassonne and Toulouse. It has been beautifully restored with oak beams, original fireplace & many unique features, it is very comfortable, with large outdoor pool, free wifi. Sunny terrace, children`s swingset, and possibility of evening meals of local regional dishes.

Wonderful and friendly

Reviewed By Alison L

I stayed here for bed and breakfast last month as i was at a family wedding nearby and was very pleased with everything. Set in a very quiet village with good access to local towns and airports it was very peaceful. Sarah, our host, was so warm and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. She showed us around the house and i was surprised at how large the rooms were. My bedroom had a 'hidden' bathroom which was a definite selling point. The bed was very comfortable, the room was spotless and there was a good selection of towels. The room also came with a kettle and tea/coffee. Breakfast was wonderful. Lots of fruit from the garden and homemade preserves as well as fresh pastries and on the second morning we were treated to a delicious homemade rhubarb pie as well! Fantastic! The only disappointment was the weather which meant that i couldn't try the swimming pool out or sit in the garden but i really can't blame Sarah!! Thoroughly recommend this delightful place.
