10 hotels in Kill Devil Hills: Best hotel deals for 2023

July 20, 2022 Rosalyn Ihle

With water, water everywhere, visitors to Kill Devil HIlls indulge in fishing and crabbing, quiet kayaking, robust surfing or parasailing, peaceful seaside cycling and that favorite, toes-in-the-sand enjoyment of the beach. This barrier island township is the center of the Northern beach and home to about 7,000 year-round residents. Summer welcomes visitors anxious to share the natural landscapes and village-like appeal. Savor long stretches of Atlantic views and silky sands. If you’re a history buff, visit area lighthouses and the National Memorial honoring Wilbur and Orville Wright, who accomplished the first controlled powered flight in 1903. In nearby Kitty Hawk, Seascape Golf Links challenge players with changing elevations and coastal landscapes. A popular day trip just 17 miles to the southwest, the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, Elizabeth Gardens and live performances of “The Lost Colony” combine to preserve and present the background of Native American culture and Sir Walter Raleigh’s colonization efforts in the late 1500’s.

We arrived at the Best Western looking forward to our stay. We entered the front desk area and the lady was very nice. We picked up our room key (card) and went to our room. A little trouble getting in. You have to play with the card multiple times to get it to work. Once the green light comes on you have to lift up on the door handle. Once the door handle is up you have to push the door open to get in because the latch doesn’t clear completely. Once inside you wonder what happened in the room and why it looks like that. The carpet had spray paint on it along with some of the cabinets. The air conditioner in the bedroom was so loud you had to turn up the TV to hear it. The power for the A/C came from what used to be the bedroom closet because you can see the hinge where the door used to pivot. The power came from a flexible conduit to a plastic junction box. The conduit was attached with just one clamp. It would be very easy to pull it out of the box by getting some clothes hung up on it while removing them from the “closet”. The bedroom had a glass wall with a glass door on it. You could barely see out the glass it was so dirty. The door wouldn’t open. Move to the bathroom. You have an outlet in the bathroom but it wouldn’t work. So you dried your hair in the other sink area. Moving to the living room. Nice TV. But none of the seating was aligned so you could see the TV. Again the wall was glass with a door in it. Again the door didn’t work. You strain to see through the dirty glass so you could see the knoll but it was covered with trash. I don’t know what the code is in Kill Devil Hill but this room has a safety problem as there was no secondary egress from there.

My best friend found this place for a little birthday trip. We arrived and of course the word resort makes you expect some grand fancy hotel which it's not but we had no issues. The rooms were roomy, smelled good, were clean and the bed were comfortable. Staff was super friendly and helpful and I would totally stay here again... Next time I'll bring my puppers!

My wife and I were just passing through the area and needed a place to stay. We had read a review on this inn and, although the review was not very flattering, when we got to the hotel it looked fine to us. And it was. I have no complaints. The room is clean, comfortable, and right on the water. I would certainly go back again.

We recently visited OBX for the first time and stayed here. We stayed on the 4th floor in the tower building. When we arrived we were told the elevator didn’t work. I have a bad hip plus asthma so this was not good for me. I would have thought it would be fixed within a day but 5 days later still nothing. Would have been nice to offer some type of discount for that. As far as the room and the rest of the hotel I was very pleased. Rooms were very nice. Nice beach access.

One night between pit stop at a wonderful hotel

Reviewed By Rachel L

We were on the way to Avon but stopped in Kill Devil Hills for one night to break up our week vacation. My husband called on our way to from Raleigh to check availability for an upgrade. The staff member graciously accommodated the request. At check in we were greeted by Suzanne who was very friendly. After checking into the room we realized the pull out sofa was not intended for adult guests. My husband spoke to Suzanne who totally understood our situation and did everything in her ability to make it work for our group. This property is not only beautiful but it is managed very well! Both Michael and Suzanne as well as the front desk agent who assisted me in getting the upgrade were professional and understanding. I actually even received a call from Michael the GM after Jamie, the shift manager had resolved the issue. Highly recommend this property.

Great Stay for a Great Price

My wife and I loved staying at the Comfort Inn on the Ocean in KDH, Outer Banks NC! The front desk/guest service staff were AMAZING and made the trip really special. The room was clean, the pool was awesome, and the close beach access was great. The staff there are so considerate, thoughtful, and attentive! We had an accessible room, so the queen size bed was way bigger than we anticipated! It was more like a king size and very comfy. The continental breakfast was also delightful and the hours were great. I love visiting OBX every year, but this was my first hotel experience rather than renting a house because it was just me and my wife. We were very pleased and will most definitely be back! -Lindsey M.

Terrible overall

Reviewed By Happiness716364

Not only do they have a terrible cancellation policy (48 hours) they make no allowances for parties with a sudden health condition (change in my cancer situation.) Then when we showed up anyway, with the 3 people that we had booked TWO double beds for, all they had to give us was a king bed room, NOT what we had booked at all. This was after we had been charged 2 days before for said 2 double bed room, which was not available when we arrived, and which we needed. This place is terrible, the bed was horribly uncomfortable and no one slept on the mattress where you could feel the springs. DO NOT STAY HERE.
