During our stay, we experienced multiple hotel staff not wearing masks in violation of Athens City ordinance and Holiday Inn policy. The details -- We thought hard about whether to take this trip to Athens to visit our daughters' family for Christmas. We decided that airline and hotel precautions made it reasonably safe to travel as we are fully vaccinated and would be with family. Also, Athens has a city ordinance requiring indoor masks in public places. Holiday Inn advertises its COVID safety measures, including compliance with local requirements. We have stayed at the Athens Holiday Inn Express a number of times over the last several years to visit family in the area. Prior to COVID we had no complaints about the hotel. On this trip, we were upset and concerned to find after checking in that many hotel staff, including the manager, food service, and cleaning staff were frequently not wearing masks, even though the hotel had a poster on the front door announcing that the Athens indoor mask ordinance required masks for everyone in the building My daughter called the hotel on our behalf to complain and was told the owner was getting a bit "lax" but was reassured that staff would start wearing masks. However, over the rest of our stay, we again saw staff not wearing masks, including another a food service person in the breakfast area. One food service staffer without a mask told me hers was "broken" and "in the back." There is no excuse for this hotel and its staff to intentionally disregard standard effective COVID health precautions, local legal requirements, and corporate policy and public representations, all with the result of increasing health risks to hotel guests and their families. We will look at other options for our next trip

Reviewed By 253fadygEveryone is super nice and helpful. Restaurant and bar are was wonderful (Shout-out to April for the tasty cocktails). Overall the staff made our stay a positive experience. That being said, it's easy to realize the place is short staffed (especially in room cleaning/servicing/maintenance side of things), I'm sure it's just the post pandemic rust that many independent businesses are struggling with now and I'm hoping they can overcome. I'd say that's the only thing that's keeping me from giving them an 'excellent' rating.

Reviewed By j2dorFrom the welcome we received upon arrival to our last breakfast before departure, we had a great two-night stay. The desk clerk was friendly and helpful, housekeeping was excellent (the room was super clean as was the rest of the hotel.) The woman who maintained the breakfast area was diligent, the food was well-prepared, the fruits fresh and appealing, nd there was a good variety of choices. Our room was one of the quietest we've ever stayed in. I wish every hotel were so well operated.

I did miss having a coffee pot in the room. I did not notice a charging port in the room but it could possibly have been on the TV, but I didn't think to check there.

Reviewed By vmeyer123We stayed here visiting our son who’s attending OU. The location is great, close to campus and the room was nice! Clean, quiet, and beds were comfortable. The bathroom could use some updating, it showed som wear and tear but overall I would stay here again. The staff in front were very nice both at check in and check out.

Very Bare Bones, Customer Service Needs Work
Reviewed By Chad MI had booked this room just for a quick weekend in Athens, expecting to receive a descent room at a descent price. We checked in later in the evening, and felt like we were being an inconvenience to the family that runs the hotel by checking in later in the evening. It seems overpriced at what we paid for what we received amenity wise, I’ve had a nicer rooms in other areas for a much lower cost. The hotel is very dated, like you are back in the 1980’s. If they really want to bump up their ratings and reviews, they should update their overall decor of the building, remove the old classroom seats outside of each room, update the bathroom tiles and improve their customer service when the customer is in need of assistance or help.

Reviewed By frankhamayVery nice & clean. Deal w/ Hotwire made it a great value. Fridge & mike in every room, I believe. Beautiful pool & hot tub (out of service on this particular day). Fitness center. The b/fast was even better than I expected. Staff were all very friendly. I was told to park my tractor trailer around back, but there is not enough room, DON’T EVEN ATTEMPT IT. No complaints w/soever. Highly recommended. Be blessed & accept CHRIST. Quit being so prideful & tryin’a do it all y/self. Help is available to you.
