10 Condos in Louisiana: Best hotel deals for 2023

April 18, 2023 Leonarda Pillsbury

Louisiana tourism is centered on New Orleans and the North Shore region in the southeastern corner of the state near the Florida border. West of New Orleans is the Great River Road, with the I-10 running to the Mississippi River port capital city of Baton Rogue. West of New Orleans along the Gulf of Mexico, the I-10 cuts through Lafayette and Lake Charles on its way past Abbeville to Texas. Central Louisiana is Lake Country, and home to cities like Alexandria and Natchitoches. In northern Louisiana, the I-20 runs west from Monroe to Bossier City, Shreveport, and East Texas. Unless Louisiana is very familiar and frequent territory, New Orleans will be the top choice for a Louisiana vacation. Though Mardi Gras, music, and the winning ways of the New Orleans Saints football team get the spotlight, there is much more to explore in New Orleans. Within New Orleans choose among Bourbon Street, Royal Street, the Upper and Lower French Quarters, the Warehouse and Central Business District, the Garden District and Uptown, and Mid-City. With street car lines linking the French Quarter to the Garden District, Convention Center, and everywhere else, it is easy for the whole family to get around. If long walks are your exercise, explore the scenic city on foot. An easy two-hour drive from New Orleans brings you to Baton Rogue, Natchitoches and Lake Country. Explore old Beauregard Town in downtown Baton Rogue, the historic homes of the Baton Rogue Garden District, and tour one or several working plantations. Walk the 33-block Historic Landmark District and tour the historic homes and churches of Natchitoches. Relive Spanish Empire history in Louisiana at Fort St. Jean Baptiste State Historic Site. Heading west from New Orleans is Cajun Country and Lafayette with its mix of French, French Canadian (Acadian), Spanish, and Caribbean cultures. Besides Cajun and Creole cookery, explore the Civil War heritage at the Lafayette Museum. Stop by Abbeville to view the courthouse designed by Hayes Town, St. Mary Magdalen Church, and have a seafood meal. With 75 annual festivals Lake Charles is Louisiana's Festival City, and home to the Creole Nature Trail Scenic Byway. Shreveport and Bossier City in northwest Louisiana are casino and entertainment centers. Shreveport is renowned for hosting the Louisiana State Fair in the fall. Plus floral centers, art galleries, and museums. Monroe in the northeast also has notable gardens.

French Quarter Mansion

French Quarter Mansion, a Hospitality of New Orleans property, is a Creole Mansion located in the heart of the historic New Orleans French Quarter on 730 Dumaine, snuggled between Bourbon and Royal Street. It was built in 1820 by John Fritz Miller to house his family and law practice of Christian Rosaleus, founder of Tulane University School of Law. Black Mold and no AC

Reviewed By S9839AArutht

Starting from the beginning, parking isn’t near the Mansion. We parked about 5 blocks away, having to carry our luggage along the way. The outside door wasn’t as secure as I felt it could be. There is a keypad entry that is supposed to aid in preventing transmission of COVID, however you still have to type in the code. We were in apartment 7. This is located on the 3rd floor of the Mansion. There is no elevator. The stair case, is spiral. The steps felt weak. The railing also felt weak. It did not feel safe walking up and down the steps. When we arrived at the apartment, we immediately noticed the coffee pot had not been cleaned in some time. During a pandemic, with NOLA being a hotspot for the virus, this is totally unacceptable. I’m aware old houses have dust, but this dust had been there some time. The fridge was a mini fridge that was not cold when we got there. Our drinks did not cool until the next day. The fridge also was leaking water into the floor. Complementary coffee and wine was supposed to be provided, however it was not brought to our room until after we’d been there 2 days. Opening the cabinets under the sink were 2 dead roaches. The window in the kitchen would not close completely letting out cool air. Moving on to the bathroom, there was multiple large black mold spots on the roof above the toilet. The shower curtain and tub tray also was dark with mold. The bathroom sink ran continuously. Even if the knobs were in the off position. There was a ring of rust around the hot water side. Under the bathroom sink was a water leak that was discovered the last day we were there. The bedroom had access to the porch. The porch felt unsafe. The boards felt weak and slanted downward. The porch is shared with the room next door. The door to the porch wasn’t a secure door. It often came open while we were out. This felt like a security issue since the neighboring room had access to our side of the porch. The apartment had one small tv in the bedroom that was attached to a fire stick. The sheets on the beds were not fitted for the size mattress that we had. They continuously were coming off of the bed with the slightest movement. The largest issue that caused the most disturbance was the bedroom air conditioner was dripping water onto the bed. After seeing all of the above mentioned issues, the property owner was contacted immediately on the day of arrival (Monday) Management sent out a man by the name of Rubio. Rubio glanced at the air conditioner stating it was “blown out” yesterday and that he would contact the contractor. Rubio stated that the owner needed a bigger fridge when addressing the leaking. No actions were taken. Rubio did however fix the window. The next day (Tuesday) no actions were taken whatsoever on the above mentioned problems. Wednesday, after being out in the city all day, we returned to the air conditioner now leaking twice as bad. Water was now running down the walls. Management was contacted once again. Management advised us that all issues had been taken care of. Management stated to us that housekeeping and the owner themselves had made a trip to the apartment. However, they clearly were not. When questioned about the timing of their arrival to fix the issues management then stated it was a misrepresentation and they had NOT actually been there. Later that night management sent out a very nice gentleman to check on some of the issues that never were fixed. Looking at the moldy spots in the bathroom, the gentleman stated the room should not have been rented with mold in the bathroom. When moving the bed to make room for the ladder (the AC unit is on the ceiling above the bed) we found a used mask that had not been brought with us. The gentleman made efforts to correct the air conditioner however it did not work well after. You can imagine the level of discomfort in August in NOLA with no AC. Since our concerns were not taken seriously, we requested a refund. Management stated we would have to take our concerns to AirBnB since it was used to exchange money. I would not recommend this room and will never consider staying here again. Management isn’t in this business for the customers or the nostalgia and atmosphere offered in the Big Easy, but purely out of greed. The entire apartment was cheaply remodeled to make quick profits.

I would recommend The Natchez for any of your vacationing needs while in the area of New Orleans. The rooms were more than satisfying and the shower heads in the bathrooms were to die for! I also personally enjoyed the cabanas that they had above the pool as well. Thank you staff! Until next time… Shay

DO NOT STAY HERE - NO SOUND ISOLATION

Reviewed By AlexInAruba

Do not stay here. Several of the rooms are on the side with the Streetcar and this building has basically no sound isolation (it was originally a factory, not a residential building. The streetcar runs 24 hours a day. It sounds like a plane is landing in our bedroom every time it passes. When I asked Sextant for a different room, they didn't do anything to help even though another room was clearly available on their website.

Great apartment, but not quiet due to location near hospital

Reviewed By lorrih663

This apartment was very nice, clean, and felt very safe due to needing a code to get into building, then a separate code for the apartment. We got it with our Venture points thru Capital One, then had to check in with Hosteeva. Check in was a complete pain as you had to upload your ID and a selfie, but it wouldn't work no matter how many times we tried. However, the lady at Hosteeva was super helpful and made it work. I don't feel it was worth the amount as it was over $800 for 2 days but it was very central to lots of stuff and about a 15-20 minute walk to the French Quarter. Street car stop is right in front too, which is very convenient.

Sister staycation

This hotel could be a real gem but several areas were lacking. While the check-in desk clerk was very friendly and professional, she failed to tell us anything about the pool or any amenities, nothing about breakfast. We had to revisit the desk a few times to ask questions. Upon arrival, our room was still being cleaned after check-in time. The room's bathroom had a dirty, sticky floor and traces of old toothpaste or something white was still.on the faucet handle and backsplash. There was NO HANDSOAP! They had run out. Staff should have sourced soap locally if their inventory was depleted. The mini kitchen area had a couple of glasses and plates but NO UTENSILS! I called for utensils but they didn't have any. I had to request coffee stirrers because none were provided, and no spoons provided. The beds were comfortable and the A/C worked well. Upon checkout, we found the breakfast foods on display but without plates and napkins. No one was working the desk to receive our key and garage card return. There were loud voices in the back and after waiting a while I had to raise my voice "HELLO" to get someone's attention from the back office. An improvement of management with professional hotel and guest service experience could bring this small hotel up to par.

Dirty and unsafe room!

Reviewed By kellysH380JT

The room we were given was disgusting and unsafe. Ants on the counter surrounding sticky spots, dirty floors and furniture, peeling paint, and signs of leak and dust on the ceilings. On top of that the handrail for the stairs was loose and there was an open junction box near the headboard of the bed. The hotel will not refund you if you choose not to stay in their nasty rooms. Do not stay here.

BARE kitchens

Plus side: quiet location w/ no commercial stuff nearby. West-facing rooms get sunset light. Also, large trash cans in rooms. False advertising -- there are no sofas in any rooms, per the management, contrary to the company's website. In fact, rooms have just one straight chair. Not a "full kitchen" at all. There are absolutely no utensils or plates or pots -- not even a coffemaker. Ceiling lights - no lamps - and un-carpeted floors make for a stark experience. As a "residential" hotel, it's a phony. Try Candlewood Suites for a few more dollars and way more value.

Wonderful apartment/ condo but….

Reviewed By Frank M

We chose this location for the size and pool. We traveled with 3 teenagers and a 9yr old. I parked for cheap two blocks away with spothero. We unloaded everything and the boys couldn’t wait to check out the pool. New Orleans is not the most kid friendly town so we needed this amenity. Turns out the pool had some issues and looked like a swamp and was not fixed during our stay. While the location is not ideal for being in the middle of the quarter, it was ideal for what we needed for our stay due to space. It had 3 bedrooms, kitchen and a non working pool. I still gave it 5 stars because perhaps a group of friends would not be worried about a pool because they want to enjoy the quarter and it is perfect for that. The bar on ground level is amazing for a good cocktail. Bartenders are great. Lounge area is beautiful in the bar. Bring ice because there is no ice machine in the building like a hotel. You have ice trays but who has time to wait for water to freeze when needing that beverage. The apartment was truly beautiful. Location was not bad unless you just want to be in the middle of it all but for the money and if splitting it with friends…..ideal.
