10 Campgrounds in Shoalhaven: Best hotel deals for 2023

May 16, 2023 Hana Mouser

Shoalhaven might not be the first place to come to mind when thinking of Australia—but it should be. That is if you enjoy surfing sparkling turquoise waters, immersing yourself in the verdant trails and gorges of Ben’s Walk, and exploring caverns and sea cliffs through Gosangs Tunnel. Looking for something a bit more restful? Enjoy stunning views (particularly at sunset) from the Point Perpendicular Lighthouse before feasting on local treats at one of the coastal region’s 20 vineyards.

Jervis Bay Holiday Park

Jervis Bay Holiday Park is a well maintained, unspoilt, privately owned park on a crystal clear waterway accessing Jervis Bay. A unique feature of the park is its own private boat ramp and brand new floating pontoon, a perfect spot to launch your boat, canoe or kayak. Why not pull up a chair, throw in a line and catch a fish from our jetty. Read a book or sit back, relax and enjoy the atmosphere. We welcome pets that are well behaved on powered and camp sites only. Let us be your base to visit the nearby beautiful beaches, cycle tracks, go fishing, swimming, bowling, golfing, scuba diving or snorkelling. Experience all this only minutes away from the park yet enjoy that relaxed South Coast pace of life that Huskisson is famous for. We boast absolute river frontage to Currumbene Creek.

Safari Glamping Tent with Bathroom

Reviewed By YTRex

First time staying in a Holiday Park. Check in was efficient and staff gave good information. Safari Glamping Tent is good value for money and spacious, with its own bathroom facilities and heater. However, light sleepers might need to contend with noise from neighbouring tents. Not an issue with us and things quieten down after 10am. We self catered and used one of the gas bbq pits in the common area. Location is good as it is a short drive to Huskisson (restaurants and cafes) and the Hyam's Beach.

Run down camping area

Reviewed By pscaban

Disappointed with our Lake Conjola experience. Poor weather didn't help. The park has had a lot of work done on it's facade and Pool/entertainment areas which are very classy. But go down into the camping area and it's like going into a slum. Hundreds of old onsite vans/homes - obviously old holiday vans - most uninhabited. Roads in very poor condition with potholes, dirt and puddles. Site had muddy access with poor drainage. Amenities were good and had been modernised - but no outside cleaning at all, so leaves, sticks, and quite dirty to access.

Ingenia Holidays Wairo Beach

Think you’ve seen everything there is to know about holiday parks? May we introduce you to Ingenia Holidays Wairo Beach. Rated by Escape as one of the top 13 holiday parks in Australia, you only need to cross the threshold to see why. This holiday park nestled on the South Coast of New South Wales is packed with nostalgic reminders of yesteryear, with themed cabins built around a historic-themed street. Instead of the usual brick amenity buildings, you might be used to in holiday parks, at Ingenia Holidays Wairo Beach, you’ll find facilities inside set-like buildings that depict a Cobb & Co coach office, pub, general store and petrol station. When you’re not enjoying what’s on offer within the park’s footprint, step outside its surrounds onto Wairo Beach, the five-kilometre-long stretch of sand which connects Lagoon Head in the north to Lake Tabourie in the south. Swimming costumes are packing essentials all year round for this holiday park, between the surf waves of Wairo Beach, the resort-style pool or kayaking nearby to be done.

Worst management and staff and cleaning is minimal with really bad sites

Reviewed By Angeeeeeeeeeeeee

We stayed here for 10 days in January 2022. When we arrived we were told that we had only booked 1 adult on the site and would need to pay xtra for the children and other adult. We asked to see our booking reference and they couldn’t find it as they changed systems being bought by Tasman parks so had to pay another $360 the manager was so rude ww had no reception to bring up our email so couldn’t sort this. We then arrived on our caravan site which was just a dust pit. I said to my husband if we get a bit of rain this is going g to turn into a mud pit. The first night we got some light rain and it just flooded the campsite as there is NO drainage and the road is a good 4 inches higher than the site we were told to do what we could like dig trenches so we did, not exactly what you expect for a camp site, maybe a national park but not a big 4/Tasman. The third night we were there a huge storm came through and we were in ankle deep mud we asked to move sites as this was unacceptable they agreed and found us another site but we were camping with friends so we squeeze both our vans on one site and they agreed to give a refund of the other site and said it will take 14 days. I have sent following emails and texts and calls with no reply. It’s now been 1 month and still o refund. The cleaning is minimal absolutely disgusting the toilets and showers, the pool had floating things and vomit in it we all ended up with ear aches. The sewage smell is foul and constant. They have poured all their money onto cabins and no drainage or new toilet facilities. Also they don’t have areas for families and young adults as it’s a family park pipeline we’re up till 1 am with music blaring and noise. They is no noise rules. So many people left early they as spoke to others in the park with the same disappointment I could go on about other things too like no Ice, no stick in the shop, It’s a beautiful location but never again would we come here or recommend it.

SCAMMERS AND THEAFS

SCAMMERS!!!! Be careful people!!!! Don't let these people steal your money!!!! I am so angry. I stayed there for 1 night with some friends and they made me pay double the price with the excuse that the transaction didn't occur. Thankfully I realized that some time after so I contacted them and explained the situation but then it became almost impossible to talk to them as they were not responding my calls or emails. I have provided them bank statements and every proof they needed but it has been over 3 months now and I still haven't got my 300 dollars back. The funny thing is that Penny, the owner, had the courage to get angry and yell at me and hanged up on me on the phone. Very frustrating. PLEASE DON'T GIVE MONEY TO THIS DISHONEST BUSINESS!!!

Ingenia Holidays Merry Beach

Located in the small beachside town of Kioloa, wake up to the sounds of the waves crashing with mere footsteps between you and the beach at Ingenia Holidays Merry Beach. The caravan or camping experience you’ll find here is the definition of beachfront, with the choice of sites directly on Merry Beach itself for uninterrupted water views. Throughout the park, most rooms come with a view (pool or beach), whether you book a powered or unpowered camping or caravan site, or dial up the comfort with a private chalet, which range in specification from the standard poolside cabin to a two storey presidential haven. With room and site configurations to suit any size of group, bring the whole family (including pooch) to this beachside beauty on the New South Wales South Coast. If you do decide to stray from the peaceful surrounds of Ingenia Holidays Merry Beach, make the short trek to Murramarang National Park, where you can soak up nature by tackling one of the beach-hugging hiking trails. Back at home base, soak up the amenities which include a new playground and resort-style pool. While your togs and towel are definite packing essentials for this holiday park, don’t forget your camera to capture the local eastern grey kangaroos who call Merry Beach home.

The shower head surprise

Reviewed By cathy c

My partner and I have always enjoyed our time at merry beach. We decided to take the pooch with us as they now have pet friendly cabins. We booked a standard cabin ( number 8) which was ok, except for the shower. Obviously the bathroom had been newly renovated, but still had the old rusty shower head where the water sprayed every which way but down. ?‍♀️ byo shower head next time ?

BIG4 Bungalow Park has absolute lake frontage to beautiful Burrill Lake and is only 1km from the surf beach at Dolphins Point. Unreasonable Company

Reviewed By 296adamn

Let me start with saying the customer service of upper management within the Discovery Parks group is kind of poor. This park was originally a Big 4 Holiday Park and only recently changed to 'Discovery' 3 weeks ago. I made my booking 3 months ago when the park was under the Big 4 name on the proviso and promise by staff I would be able to use my gift cards. I understand the gift cards were for Big 4, however, I was not notified of the change in ownership and was informed on the day of check-in I was unable to use these gift cards. Speaking with the regional manager from 'Discovery' got me nowhere and I was basically told 'Too bad so sad'. This is disapointing as it left us no option to re-book any other accommodation. Now that was my first experience let me break the park down into pro's and con's: Pro's: 1. Nice location, the lake attached to the park is amazing if you have a boat or wish to hire the non-motorised watercraft. Our kids had a blast on the pedal boats and stand up paddle board. Within walking distance is also a nice calm inlet where the kids can swim safely. 2. Peaceful setting, the wildlife around the park is pretty cool both day and night. 3. Staff at the park were pretty nice. Con's: 1. Everything closes super early, the office closes at 5 which means no putt putt, hiring of watercraft, hiring of tennis raquets and the games room has a sign up saying it closes at 6:30pm. I expect during summer this time to be extended due to daylight savings - it is still daylight at 8:30pm!!!! 2. We stayed in the tree top spa lodge and the rooms feel quite dated with a musty smell to them. Porch light also did not work and no air conditioners in the bedrooms can make hot nights a little unpleasant. 3. No Wi-Fi - WTF?!? Its 2021, seriously. 4. One small pool (2 I guess if you count the small childrens wading pool). A park of this definately needs a second pool as it is always packed with everyone bumping into each other. Overall we had a good time. My list above are just some small improvements. If you want a modern park with good facilities and a larger pool with Wi-Fi then look elsewhere.

The chef was very talented. I will be returning for dinners regularly. Best restaurant in the area. Being nestled in nature and also having the luxury of a warm comfortable bed was a wonderful experience. I was concerned that I was going in late May and it would be too cold but it was perfect. Park ammenities are very good and the bbq areas along the waterfront are a great place for people to meet, cook and eat dinner. Lots of day trips can be done from here if you want to explore the area.
