Camping with motorhome

Site situated off main road but pitch was quiet and facilities good. On site shop basic and supermarket 2 miles distance. Good and reasonably priced restaurants within walking distance. Site was busy and not much space between pitches but some shade from the sun in the hot weather. Very helpful staff. Mix of cabins and camping pitches

Nice site a short distance from la Rochelle

Reviewed By riley317

Enjoyed our stay here, extending our stay by 4 nights. Reception was perfect, young lady jolly and helpful, just right here. Our 4 berth mobile home was cosy, but there was no excess space, not much room around the beds for example, and pretty close to neighbours, so considerate neighbours have to be hoped for. We particularly wanted somewhere close to la Rochelle, and this was ideal. Nice country walk nearby, great for our dog. The mobile home was clean and well equipped, only item we could think to be added would be a hair dryer. Beds are a good size, comfortable, and new duvets were supplied.

Superb meal

First time eating at the ‘Floating Village’ restaurant. The food was excellent, good menu choice, setting beautiful, we sat outside overlooking the lake. The service was excellent too, our host was very knowledgeable and explained in detail what each of our meals consisted of. Would definitely recommend.

Au Pays Des Bulles

Between Bordeaux and La Rochelle, in Montendre, "Au Pays Des Bulles" is an unusual eco-friendly lodging. This place offers all the comforts of a hotel in a transparent bubble wilderness for a night under the stars.

A night under the stars in a bubble - never had anything like it - brilliant.

My wife and I decided we would do something different and so we booked into the bubble for one night. We were welcomed by Pierre and Anne-Valarie who showed us around the place. They were wonderful - spotless English and some English humour to - we felt very much at home. You could not ask for better hosts. Then we were left alone in the privacy of our bubble in the forest. We sat out side on the veranda and drank some wine while the sun set and then went to bed gazing at the stars. It was breath taking! Below - I have ticked the Hotel boxes even though it is not a hotel but a private bubble in the forest grounds.

Camping Les Fougeres

Lovely location, cramped accommodation.

Reviewed By Fairporter53500

The positives first. The site is really attractive, well maintained and clean. The facilities are good, a large play area for children, a swimming pool, superb walking from the site. A good base to explore the island. The mobile homes are clean and in good overall condition, if rather cramped. You definitely need one with a terrace! The accommodation lacks any comfort- seating is poor, lighting is bright and clinical, the WC is very small and so are are the bedrooms. Softer lighting, especially bed side lights would be a great improvement but overall I did not think the internal design was very good. I used to have a touring caravan which was more spacious and more comfortable.

1st time camping in 20 years

Reviewed By Rebecca C

This is a spotless, tranquil campsite with good ameneties and friendly English speaking staff. The swimming pool was lovely but the near by beaches were more of a draw for the children. The only negative comment is that they really need a second toilet block.. It was a bit far from the actual camping area, and the little shop was rather expensive. The on site cafe we would have used but it never seemed to be open when we wanted anything. The pitches are shady and large and the site and well lit at night. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this site.

fraudulent insurance payments demanded even though we said we were separately insured

Reviewed By Bridgeybarnes

I made a booking for 16 people for our annual easter cycling weekend and we chose this site in Il de Re. I challenged the addition for insurance for the site despite saying all of the people coming have separate insurance policies. They said if we didn't pay for the insurance they will just cancel our booking. For the sake of c.5 quid I thought it wasn't much in the grand scheme of things so we begrudgingly paid the money. COVID came and our booking was cancelled. This was ok however the camp site were not forthcoming with providing the necessary documentation to process our claim with the 'insurance company'. I decided to pursue the refund through my credit card provider (CCP) who were happy to process the claim. My CCP contacted me to let me know that Les Grenettes were contesting the refund stating that we have rescheduled for end of July / beginning of August. This was not offered before nor confirmed by us. Note the dates as this is peak season for the camp site. We were going to go in Easter when it was cheaper. No price was agreed with the campsite either. The last communication we had was that we can claim our money back from the 'insurance company'. I can see from the latest reviews here that these people are shiesters at best. These people are greedy and are still giving me a headache until now. Stay somewhere else in the island. It is beautiful and I can't wait to go back. Unfortunately there are people like Les Grenettes who take advantage of this.

If you like cable water ski-ing stay here, if not try elsewhere

Reviewed By Jute1974

We stayed here as it was mid way up France on our way back to the UK from south of France. The site is sub standard and the cabins are tired and starting to show signs of age. The location is very rural, 40-50 minutes from Poitiers with very little other than tiny villages in between. On site there is a lake with a 5 turn cable water ski facility. It was 30 euros each unlimited use for the day (10:00 till 20:00) with boards and life vests included, which was tiring but a fun day. Other than that there is very little else around and you would have to drive substantial distances to get anywhere. There are limited, if any staff on site in the campsite and no life guard on the water slide, which for me was not a huge issue, but if you had small kids may be ? The restaurant served limited snacks and was not open to camping guests one night as there was a private function on, which meant a 20 minute drive to get dinner (but was worth it and is a separate review !) My last gripe was the fact they stress you must check out between 0800 to 1000 hrs, which was perfect for us to leave at 08:30 to get the ferry, however at 09:30 there was still no staff on site and we left the keys in a letter box hoping they did not use my credit card details left as deposit !!

On our journey through France we visited this beautiful island in the Atlantic ocean just off the coast, connected with a bridge. THE campsite has several cottages (mobile homes) clean and well furnished, good beds. optional air conditioning. Made a bicycle tour, and a day on the beautiful beach.
