Onsen Yupopo

Onsen Yupopo is a hot spring inn that enjoys the food and culture of Akita entirely! It is halfway between the small Kyoto "Kakunodate" and the mysterious lake "Tazawako". You can use the hot spring even on a day trip. It is approximately 10 minutes by car from Kakunodate Station, and a shuttle bus (reservation required) also operates! ※ All rooms are non-smoking rooms. ※ In order to go to the hot spring from the room where you stay, it is necessary to move to the building on the other side by using the corridor. ※ The staff can speak almost anything except Japanese, but we have a translator at the front desk.

We were picked up from the station as the Onsen was 40 Kms from there and no transport. The owner then took us to various sites to see and experience many different aspects of the area (e.g. fallen bridge from earthquakes) The service was fantastic and very friendly. The staff couldn't do enough for us. When it was time to leave we were taken on a long trip further into the mountains to a spa hotel for a hot dip in the freezing weather. We were then taken back to the Onsen for a free lunch then driven back to the station to catch the Shinkasen to Yokohama. A wonderful experience and we will be back again.

We had a relaxing stay.

This was the ryokan recommended by the travel agency I use to explore Kakunodate about fifteen minutes' drive to the west. The exterior looked a bit aged but inside was quite bright and modern. We were greeted by the staff upon arrival, taken aside to the lobby, given a mushroom tea to relax while we were checked in. The room overlooking Lake Tazawa was spectacular. The standard couse menu is composed of local dishes that vary depending on what ingredient is in season. Our travel agent was right suggesting there was no need to order additional side dishes as the standard course was voluminous enough. The onsen on the ground floor was clean and spacious. There is an onsen bath on the rooftop which you can use as long as it is vacant. Unfortunately it was occupied every time we looked, as there were quite a few guests enjoying the weekend. Overall it was a very pleasant stay. Price is at the higher end.

角館武家屋敷から少し離れていますが送迎バスで問題なし

・角館駅から距離がありますが13:30から1時間おきに送迎バスがあり大きな荷物も先に旅館に運んでくれ、帰りも駅まで送ってくれるので便利です。 ・広大な敷地にちょっと古い感じがするがスタッフの応対はとてもよい。昔は市の施設で現在は三セク経営とか。昔の名前は「ひでこ荘」だそうです。 ・温泉はかけ流しで日帰り利用者が多いが露天風呂を含めて風呂場が大きくてのんびりできます。食事は可もなく不可もなくといったところでしょうか。

Aoni Sanso

Aoni Sanso is an excellent choice for travelers visiting Semboku, offering many helpful amenities designed to enhance your stay. Rooms at Aoni Sanso offer a flat screen TV and a fireplace providing exceptional comfort and convenience, and guests can go online with free wifi. A coffee shop and shops are some of the conveniences offered at this onsen ryokan. A hot tub and an on-site restaurant will also help to make your stay even more special. If you are driving to Aoni Sanso, free parking is available. If you’re looking for something to do, Katakuragaku Tenbodai (1.2 mi) is a nice way to spend some time, and it is within walking distance of Aoni Sanso. Enjoy your stay in Semboku!

We really enjoyed our two nights here. Location: It's close to the ski fields but not much else. We originally booked three nights but left after two as we had had plenty of time on the slopes. The Host: The host is absolutely wonderful, she made our stay very special. She went above and beyond what we expected as far as service. English: No english spoken. The snow: Oh my so much powder! Every day the host was running about clearing snow. It was quite magical to sit in the room and watch it fall. The rooms: Japanese rooms, average size. No toilet. The food: Dinner was really incredible. We had local specialities and a great selection of food. Japanese breakfast was okay. Next door: New Sky hotel next door offers far superior onsen facilities, and can be used by Aoni guests for free (just pick up a pink ticket at reception). The restaurant at New Sky also serves lunch and has a lovely view of the trees outside. Overall, I loved this little village, which is really just a cluster of hotels. The accomodation was quaint but above average.

Good food, good service and good hotel

Though I stayed at the hotel 2 months ago, I think I should write something for this wonderful hotel. First is its tranquil environment and high standard of cleanliness. It makes me feel so peaceful and comfortable. The food impressed me the most. Both the dinner and breakfast were served in a separate private room opposite to our guest room. We were free to chat and drink without worrying to bother others. Both the dinner and breakfast offered great varieties and the taste was out of critics. The onsen is not big but is adequate. Staff are polite. Even they spoke a little bit English, I did not see it a problem as they tried hard to communicate with us and we could also use iPhone for translation. I enjoyed the stay very much.

Many customers have loved the Miyakowasure, since the Edo period, for its medicinal bath. Beautiful rural ryokan

Located near the end of a rural road / track Miyowasure is a lovely modern traditional ryokan. The inn had a good English speaker on hand when we arrived and the team all were very friendly with sufficient understanding for us to enjoy our stay. Food was amazing, two of the best dinners of our trip. Location good for Kakunodate and surrounding sights.

You can get off the bus at Taenoyu Onsen or Nyuto Onsen Bus station very close too. This ryokan very local services as many traveller wrote especially non-Japanese because they can speak English very few. But the point of travel is “Nyuto Onsen” it’s mean milk water bath if we can avoid something and try to understand the real local culture we will happy when happy we will people around happy too.

Great onsen and sand bath

This hotel was a 2 hours drive from Akita airport. So, there is an old wing and new wing of the hotel. We followed the GPS by car and got to the old wing. Entered the building only to find the lobby abandoned and desolate. I saw an old woman walking around so I asked her where check-in was. She told me I had to walk to the new wing through a very shabby looking corridor. After a bit of confusion and heaving of luggages, we got to the main reception and checked in. (PS, if we drove to the new wing, there would be no need to walk in shabby corridors and the new lobby is actually quite decent.) One staff was helpful and even went to collect our car from the old building to park in front of the new building for us. Staff speak no English so we spoke in Japanese. The young lady who checked us in did not look very happy and did not smile at all. However, another lady who gave us a guide of the hotel facilities and led us to our rooms was very nice. She was also present for our breakfast and dinner as a server. The room was quite big but old. It was a traditional japanese style room. Someone would come into our room while we had dinner downstairs to make up our futon for us (which alarmed us a bit that they entered without asking). And will put the futon away in the morning for us. They provide tea and little snacks everyday. There was an indoor onsen which includes a bathing area. An outdoor onsen which does not have a shower area. There is also a special sand bath where you are buried till your neck in warm sand to remove impurities from your body. Later, you are required to wash your hair and rinse your body with water but no body soap for at least a few hours. This sand bath requires reservation at the reception and is about 1050yen plus entrance fee of 450yen. Dinner was really good. They were very nice and helpful to accommodate my partner's dietary needs. It will be best if you inform them beforehand. My partner however was a little annoyed with one of the servers who cooked his fish (It was shabu-shabu, so we should have done it ourselves) and broke his rice crackers into the soup when he was looking forward to do it himself. (She seemed to be in a hurry and wanted to get over and done with. Also, because my partner did not understand her, there was some misunderstanding. She might be trying to be helpful? But he did not appreciate her touching his food with her bare hands after cleaning the table next to us.) Breakfast for the first day was buffet style but the consecutive days were served as a set. Which seemed like leftovers from the buffet on the first day. Overall, we had a great time. The staff were helpful, we had a traditional experience, and the food was overall good. Water from the tap is mineral water from the mountains so it is safe to drink. The water made my complexion glow.
