A wonderful surprise.

What an absolutely wonderful experience it was to stay here. The room where clean and well appointed. However the quirk factor of this place is off the charts.. from the front desk made of suitcases to the drum kit light fitting in the pub. And as for the view out of our window..which was of the internal courtyard come beer garden.. spectacular. As for the staff they were friendly, professional and very helpful. Definitely recommend a stay here.

Neat tidy and clean ?

The Sunnyside Tavern was a good place to stay for a quick overnighter. I was travelling solo and wanted to stay somewhere that had somewhere for me to eat as well. I stayed in the Queen room with ensuite which was timy but clean. The room itself was not overcrowded and everything was nice and clean. The air-conditioning took a while to get up to temp but I was warm overnight. The bistro downstairs was lovely and reasonably priced meals. All the staff were polite and friendly and I felt very welcome. Will definitely stay again ?

Cooks Hill Australiana

Classic Australian pub. Beautifully preserved Australian brick & tile hotel dating back to 1882. Looks to be in magnificent standing both outside & in. Pressed tin ceilings, and great retro advertising billboards adorn the many walls. Only stopped by for a couple of beers this afternoon, but there's a good range of beers on tap and bar staff were personable and accommodating. I note they do food and accommodation too.

Was great, except...

For the cost of a night's stay, it was worth it, the food was absolutely exceptional, I had the Lamb Cutlets which were cooked beautifully, and the Mash was just perfect, my other half had one of the steaks, and it looked absolutely mouthwatering, he enjoyed it thoroughly! The staff were awesome, very outgoing, but laid back at the same time, could see how much they worked as a team, and had fun doing it. The room was pretty cool, awesome comfortable King Sized bed! Only complaints would be that they didn't have any ensuites, or kitchenettes, the bathrooms and kitchen were down the hall de-tatched from the rooms, needing to pee more than once during the night after a few bevvys was a bit of a sport, lol. And no balcony, I understand it's a smoke free place, but also making it smoker friendly would have scored it a 10 outta 10 from us. Overall, great area, awesome music, and people. Fantastic food. Was a lovely place to spend my birthday, so we're giving it an 8 out of 10.

Extremely comfortable

Reviewed By tsteel408583

I recently stayed here for 10 nights while my husband was having surgery nearby in John Hunter Hospital. I could not have been made to feel more welcome and comfortable. Karen the Manager welcomed me and called to check on me & organise room service for my dinner . She & the rest of the staff made me feel at home during a very stressful time. Even though there was music on the weekends the sound proofing was good & did not disturb me. My bed was very comfortable & Housekeeping kept my room spotless & topped up with fresh towels & amenities. I don’t usually eat pub food but the steak was great & very handy to have an onsite restaurant. Great coffee shop nearby as well as pharmacy, doctor , boutique . Everything is close by just a 5 minute drive to Kotara Westfield Shopping Mall and 10 minutes from town . I can’t thank the staff enough and would definitely stay here again, hopefully under better circumstances next time .
