A stay like no other, but a tranquil home to ones away from home, encompassing rich culture and personal sentiments. The house is approximately a 15-minute's drive from Kandy in the foothills of the Hanthana Mountain Range, an area famous for cultivating some of the first tea grown on the Island and the location of the Ceylon Tea Museum. All our rooms at Hanthana House offer a large plush king bed in each of our Double/Twin rooms. Including, sprawling spaces of heritage luxury, offering splashes of the colors red and blue inspired by the Kandys’ cultural Esela Perahera parade allowing you to indulge in the finest of our island has to offer. Beyond the inclusion of a tranquil rain shower enclosure in each of the attached bathrooms, you not only have access to a host of amenities including complimentary WiFi and tea-coffee facilities but also to balconies/verandas, overlooking the Knuckle’s mountain range and the lush habitat foliage available within our family at Hanthana House. The exterior seating area in particular, is a wonderful spot to sip on a steaming cup of Ceylon tea just as its aristocratic planters did centuries ago in the midst of lush plantations of Hanthana that are decked in the hills of green, which continues to leave this beautiful country, we call home in awe today. Sri Lanka serves as the ideal home for an experience much different from your usual getaway. So when you are surrounded by the impressive mountains, hidden amidst the foliage, and share a lush habitat with a traditional village, you will find yourself immersed in the home of Sri Lankan hospitality. From secluded forest walks to fresh produce - our resident environment has inspired the very fabric of our hospitality, awaiting your arrival.

Enchanting hosts and lovely stay

Our hosts Mr. Pathi and his wife, the lady of the house Suba, were an amazing couple, they made us feel like family. The food we had in Sri Lanka, Mrs. Suba is an excellent cook, that even gave me cooking classes, which meant a lot to me. Hantana House is nestled on a hill away from the noise of the busy centre, surrounded by nature it was serene. Clean rooms and great hospitality, we would totally recommend staying here on your visit to Kandy. Mr. Pathi, has been in the tourism industry for over 25 years, and the stories and advice for our trip was valuable. We are truly looking forward to coming back, as they started our Milk and Honey addiction too ?

Mostly very good

Good : Beautiful hotel. Very well designed - the rooms, facilities, pool and dining areas are in great locations. The whole complex is clean and very well maintained. Our food was mostly very good. The staff are wonderful and can’t do enough for you. The hotel is up a very steep hill so you do need a driver to take you anywhere. Not so good : They need a good welcome introduction to introduce themselves and give details about the hotel. We were very disappointed to have staff go through our bin and then charge us for wine that we had bought. The hotel does not have a liquor license so cannot offer a alcohol menu. On our first night, we asked for some wine and were charged around £17 per bottle. The following day, we took our own and the staff went through our bins and charged us for what we had bought. We didn’t feel this was acceptable at all. Overall, it is a very good hotel. If they can offer a welcome introduction and also change their alcohol situation then it would be much better.

Affordable luxury, in Kandy's hills

The guest house is surrounded by a cool and lush forest, at the end of a quiet residential street filled with beautiful white villas. It is a paradise of flowers, trees, monkeys and birds. We came for 2 days, but ended up staying 10 days! We felt welcomed and cared for by our host, Ananda and his lovely wife. The 2nd floor AC King family room was large with giant wall-to-wall windows and a private balcony overlooking the jungle canopy. My husband and I relaxed there, watching the parrots at sunset. The cool mountain breeze meant we weren't bothered by mosquitos, and all 4 of us slept like babies. Ananda provided all transport to Kandy, even Sigiriya. Best of all, he expertly helped us to organize doctor's appointments, covid-19 booster shots...anything we needed! We enjoyed hikes to tea plantations nearby, and we took all 3 meals per day at the guest house, which was easy for us as a family and delicious, with a changing menu everyday. This place was the peaceful rest we needed after travelling for a month, and it was a great jumping off point for Sigiriya and/or Ella. Highly recommend Hanthana Holiday Rooms! It is a hidden oasis -- and only 5min drive from the center of Kandy city.

We stayed in Summit for couple of days and this hotel is in a beautiful location. It’s very modern and our room was spacious and had a lovely balcony, I loved the unobstructed view of the whole Kandy city and entire Hunnas mountain range. The view was just breathtaking. The food was delicious as they had a superb in-house chef who does a great job. The staff was well mannered and the service provided to us was of the utmost quality. Each request is handled promptly and adequately.Over all me and my partner had a fantastic stay at the Summit as the purpose of our visit was to get out of this busy life in the city and relax and Summit went beyond our expectation and served the purpose. We will definitely visit this place again.

Lovely “private” villa

We really enjoyed this former private villa that is now a small hotel with only four rooms which makes it very personal. Building and interior is very beautiful and staff is really nice and helpful. The location in Kandy is quite good in a quiet area and walking distance to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
