10 Bed and Breakfast Inns in Idaho: Best hotel deals for 2023

April 18, 2023 Weston Hennigan

A mixture of forested mountains, alpine peaks, wildflower meadows, deep river canyons, and high plains deserts, Idaho is a paradise for golf, skiing, fly fishing, and river rafting. Boise, the capital, is the state's largest city and airline hub. North of Boise are golf, lake, and ski resorts from McCall in the south to Sandpoint and Coeur D'Alene in the north. East of Boise are the ski slopes of Ketchum and Sun Valley. East of Sun Valley are Craters of the Moon National Monument, Pocatello, Idaho Falls, and the small town of Island Park just across the border from Yellowstone National Park. Boise's Basque Museum and Cultural Center reflects having the largest Basque population in the U.S. Reflecting Idaho's diverse heritage, near the Idaho Historical Museum in Boise's Julia Davis Park is the Idaho Black History Museum's chronicle of the slave York who served the Lewis & Clark Expedition. After a family visit to the Peregrine Fund's World Center for Birds of Prey and an outdoor performance at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, the next stop after Boise is likely to be Payette Lake in McCall or Sun Valley and Ketchum. About 100 miles north of Boise, past Cascade Lake, McCall takes you to the shores of Payette Lake. Go golfing, fishing, hiking, biking, waterskiing, sailing, boating, or whitewater river rafting. Ski or snowshoe Brundage Mountain or Tamarack Resorts, as well as Ponderosa State Park in winter. Ice skate year-round at Manchester Ice & Event Centre. About 450 miles north of Boise, there are resort lakes near skiing and golf at Coeur d'Alene, Hayden Lake, and Sandpoint. Golf, tennis, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, rafting, and hunting are popular in Sun Valley and Ketchum. Sockeye salmon may no longer do much spawning in Redfish Lake, but the boating and mountain scenery in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area make the short trip north to Stanley worthwhile. When the snows come the whole family will head for the slopes of Soldier Mountain, Bald Mountain, Dollar Mountain, or the Sun Valley Resort. A tiny forested town of about 250 people, Island Park has a large reservoir with fishing and boating, as well as Henry's Fork of the Snake River for fly fishing. It's only 15 miles from Yellowstone as well.

Excellent room, very helpful management

Reviewed By Neil H

An excellent room, with very helpful owners who offered help when I got caught in the rain that was above and beyond what I expected. I haven't written a review before and didn't realise 200 words were necessary. Getting me to write that much is unusual.

Disappointing

Reviewed By BeanAmy0

They double book our room, and put us in a small room off the hot tub. Upon entering the house smelled horrible. We were shown other options but none of them were as private as we had been expecting, especially with large gaps under the doors. The staff was very nice, the puppy was cute, but had left poop on the floor that looked like it had been stepped in. Was a very disappointing evening that left me in tears.

Great stopover

Reviewed By RonCentralCA

Spartan lightly chic. Recently remodeled bright soft white room with blond / bleached wood and black accents. Room 101, towards the rear of the lot isquietest, but the room slopes a bit to the front such that the shower door needs to be wedged with a towel to keep it closed whilst in the shower (the only negative). Walk to restaurants, the lake and shopping. It even snowed in early May.

Not bad

Honestly, I’m always a little hesitant about staying at a Motel 6 but I decided to give this one a try recently when traveling through Idaho Falls. The rate was decent & we really just needed somewhere to rest for a few hours during travel. The hotel could use some updates. The room was a little outdated. They could use some furniture updates. The heater was an old style that was loud & just went off & on all night so that disturbed my sleep. The room seemed pretty clean for the most part which is a huge deal to me. I would probably stay here again if the rate was good. They could definitely use some updating though.

Awesome hotel, awesome food, awesome staff!!!!!!

Chelsea was amazing to work with in the weeks leading up to our Borah Peak climb. Every time I called (which was a lot) and any question I had (many), she was friendly and professional. We arrived late on a Friday night (7:30pm) and were able to eat dinner and carbo load in their cute restaurant! The food is typical bar food, but yummy and hit the spot! (The waffle fries are not to be missed) Everyone in our group (5 of us) were happy with their meals. The rooms aren't fancy, but are CLEAN and had everything we needed! Now that we climbed Borah, I have many people asking me how we did it, where we stayed, etc. and you can bet I'll send everyone to Bear Bottom Inn. (I'm sure I'll be back coordinating more trips!) Thank you so much Chelsea and all the staff at Bear Bottom Inn!!!!!!

I met a few friends for a weekend ice fishing on Cascade. We decided to fish into the evening a bit so when we arrived back at the Hotel the parking lot was full. We had 1 truck without a trailer and two with. There was not a parking spot left. There were other people in the same boat as us when we arrived. I had to park in someone’s driveway down the road. We got one truck somehow parked in the middle of the small parking lot had to block the luggage drop off. We couldn’t find a spot for the other truck so they ending up leaving and driving back to Boise getting home at 2 am. He called the next day for a refund on his room and was told he was rented a room not a parking spot and refused a refund. Also he the owner was very rude on the phone. This place is not in town it’s not as if you can just park in the parking lot next door. If I am paying top dollar for a room I expect a parking spot the room was very small as well. Worst experience I have ever had at a hotel!!!
