My personal experience
Reviewed By Monimoon63Not a positive experience at this hotel in Arenas de Cabrales. The reception is basically not existent and if you need anything, including collecting your key, you need to call a number you find on the locked entrance door. I was given room #37 which had a very sloping roof in both the room and the bathroom. Result: I only had probably a meter around the bed to move around without bending. I couldn’t shower standing up, because the shower head was at least 20cm shorter than I am (and I’m a very standard 1.67m) and I couldn’t really move to the sides without touching the roof with my head. I’m not obsessed with looking at myself in the mirror but in case I was, well the only mirror was the one showing in the photo. The heater made a horrible noise at intervals during the night as though it was filling with bubbling water (but it was switched off so it shouldn’t have done that noise). The mattress must have been ancient, I could feel the springs at every movement. But the worst came when in the evening I found a used surgical mask under the bed (see photo). That’s when I thought “enough” and would have gone to the reception and asked to change room immediately, if there had been a reception to go too! Instead I had to wait the next morning. Upon complaining about the issues in the room and requesting a different and cleaner room, I was given the room next door. No issues there except for the shower which was spraying water all over the place and the mattress, again of very poor quality. No apology or sign of worry were ever given about the mask under the bed. I found this totally unacceptable. Then it happened that, due to extremely horrible weather conditions which prevented any type of activities, I asked if I could check out the day after, which meant a day earlier than planned. I had reserved for 3 nights and the payment was made by card via Booking.com and they already processed it. I asked if I could be reimbursed for that night but they refused. I’m totally aware that a refund would have been a gesture of goodwill on their side and that theoretically I wasn’t due any refund. As I said, it would have been a kind gesture that could have shown their interest in making amend for the discomfort their client experienced and for the “mask issue” (which is a very serious one). They couldn’t care less. They came up with laughable “policy” excuses and they said my reservation meant they couldn’t give the room to someone else! LOL! The hotel was barely occupied and plenty of rooms were still available on Booking.com for days ahead! Their attitude was so cheap, almost as cheap as the fact that at the breakfast basic buffet, one had to wait for them to give you your portions! They must be worried that the client rob them of juice from the carton and sliced cheese! This was the worst customer service I have experienced in many years (and I travel a lot).

Not fancy, but quiet
Reviewed By bigredwombatThe hotel is about a half block off the main road, which reduces any traffic sound. If you get a room in the back of the hotel, you hear nothing but horses. Rooms were not large but nice. No A/C and the windows have no screens, so in warm weather if you open the windows you risk flies. Breakfast buffet was quite nice, one of the few in this area of Spain that had breakfast cereal.

Very disappointing
Reviewed By brutusOsloWe didn`t expect a high class hotel but this was truly disappointing. The place reminds me strongly of a East-Europe hotel in the 70s: charmless and in dire need of a make-over. At first glance the place looked deserted but finally a guy turbed up and checked us in. We were given a room facing the street and with no ventilation whatsoever except the window, the noise was unacceptable. The bed can at best be described as a mini-queen - hardly a double bed. After some discussions (no upgrade was offered) , we got a new room facing the mountains with a bigger bed. Bathroom ok sizewise but the shower control fell off and the shower fitting on the wall was not working. Same with the water control on the sink. Wifi was very, very slow. In the room was nothing of the kind you`ve come to expect: no water boiler, hair drier, drinking water, etc. It did appear to be well cleaned but I suspect it has been smoked in before. Breakfast was very basic but ok. The only positive thing was the staff. They tried under what must be difficult conditions. Location is but no restaurants/bar nearby, so guests need a car and go the Arenas where we for sure will stay next time.

Reviewed By Kevin SWe arrived way too late but were received very friendly. Rooms were spacious, clean and with a great bathroom (shower and bath). Room got cleaned and sheets got changed daily. Well located in the little town, tourism boot nearby, while still being very quiet. Will return if I am ever in the vicinity.

Very good hotel for a night or two
Reviewed By AdrifxNice hotel in a small town close to the Picos de Europa mountains. Very clean and comfortable, with traditional furniture. The breakfast was on a bar nearby which is run by the same family that runs the hotel. The town has a few restaurants and souvenirs shops, and there are very nice hiking trails nearby. But apart from that, there is no much to do there. We stayed only for one night while on route to Santander. We recommend this hotel for a night if you are on route to somewhere else or if you are hiking one of the wonderful trails nearby.

Room is not huge but big enough for your needs. Lady running the hotel is super friendly and no ask is too big or small. Food is lovely. Would definitely stay here again.

Reviewed By garycV9537WVMy wife and I were attracted to this property by the photos and excellent reviews. They paint an amazing story. While host Carlos was friendly and engaging, he speaks almost no English and could not advise us on where to go in the area for walking or eating. I spoke to his friend in the phone, but the outcome was that it was best to visit Tourist Information. The accommodation was essentially a room in a shared house on the edge of a farming town. The house was undergoing renovation on one side. The standard of the accommodation was one or two stars at best. While the reputed views from the property were good, they were not the fabulous ones we expected. The property is quite isolated and quite a drive to the Picos which we had come to visit. While we had prepaid for 3 nights we stayed only half an hour. This experience has seriously undermined the value of reviews for us. There is only one review that in our view accurately reflects this property- and that was back in March 2015. Take a look.

Reviewed By EmbeelightWhat a lovely place to find with excellent food and a friendly welcome, the views from the restaurant of the picos de Europa mountains are also stunning. The fabada is a local bean stew, well worth trying. The local cerveza beer is refreshing, we have been back 3 times now and is the best place to eat we found all week.

La Portiella del Llosu is a rural property for room rental. It has five double rooms (beds 1.50) with bath. Located in the municipality of Cabrales, is the ideal place to enjoy the mountains, at 15 km from the Picos de Europa National Park and Sierra of Leather Protected Landscape as well as the marvelous beaches of western Asturias like Torimbia , Gulpiyuri, Llanes and Ribadesella.
Wonderful place in remote village
Reviewed By Susan lWe stayed for one night on a walking holiday - arriving from Las Arenas. Jose was a great host and made us very welcome. The room was very comfortable and nicely decorated. Dinner, Breakfast and our picnic lunch were delicious. Some of the best food on our travels around picos Di Europa.
