We really enjoyed this quaint , artistically decorated hotel. Room was small but clean and comfortable. It had a fridge and free bottle of water. Staff very friendly and helpful. WiFi was excellent . Walk out the door and you were in the old town. The indoor market almost next door, the out door market in the square meters away. Surrounded by tapas bars and life.

The frequent comments that you see about el Rastro that they are pointedly rude are true. I speak Spanish with a Mexican accent and we were treated like we were not wanted. They wear their Castilian disdain for tourists and outsiders on their sleeve and unapologetically. The rooms are clean but need updated beds (split twins) and plumbing work as the medieval gutter odor was dominant in our bathroom. This arrogant attitude was not at all visible in any other Iberian city on our 3 week trip but it is dominant in Avila. I recommend a quick visit here without a stopover.

Surprisingly good experience

Reviewed By Grover42

Only stayed here one night, arriving on bus and leaving on very early train. Encountered 3 staff members and all were helpful, pleasant, and accommodating with few English language abilities. Room was amazingly clean for a cheap room in an old train station. Didn't expect to sleep at all due to taxi and drop-off traffic on street side of building which our room faced. However, we slept well most of the night. In addition to what others have said about the excellent location, note that there is a convenient Aldi discount supermarket on other side of overpass, across from the new bus station.

Adequate (just) for one night

I can't understand how this place has got such a good score !!!!! Yes the location is perfect but other than that it is a very basic little hostal. The rooms are small, the beds like slabs, the pillows are bricks and the bathroom was just big enough to turn around in. We could clearly hear people in other rooms talking and the noise from the shower next door was horrendous. On top of all that we booked and paid for breakfast only to be told they were not serving breakfast

A gem of a hotel

A delightfully quirky dog friendly hotel, well positioned for an overnight Stop when travelling from the UK on the Plymouth -Santander ferry and on route to the south. Plenty of free parking. The couple who run this fine establishment are friendly and helpful although if you speak no Spanish whatsoever it could be tricky, but not impossible. The experience will be worth it. Nice double room with modern en-suite. Great shower - always one of my tests of a hotel. We ate dinner in-house which was well cooked and delicious. The definite cherry on the cake has to be the the amazing spread that was breakfast. Everything you could want, fruit, cold meats, cheese, bread and croissants and then came out the bacon and scrambled eggs. Not needed but delicious. A 5* breakfast. The beds are hardish but in our experience Spanish beds are, weirdly. The dogs are welcome in all areas of the hotel but they are also happy for you to leave them alone in the room which many hotels aren’t. The hotel does have at least 8 resident cats though which might be a challenge to some dogs but again the owners are very laid back about the whole animal interaction thing. Charming hotel we will certainly be returning to on our next trip.

Property located within the walls of Avilia. Researched first on their website, - Parking under the hotel and rooms air conditioned. Booked site and sent email requesting parking. On arrival noted no catering for disability. No one at reception so had to ring external doorbell. After a while a male let us in. WARNING do not arrive in the afternoon when he is on siesta, grumpy does not cover it. No parking had been reserved and when asked where I could park, a shrug of the shoulders and pointed to the streets on the map. Although he knew no English he gave no indication that the meter charge for on street parking was for max of 2 hours. Ended up in expensive local car park. Stairs up to the room, no lift. There was a communal kitchen, but the fridge/freezer was so full there was no room for a bottle of water. Room was largish with a comfortable bed and clean bathroom. No a/c and found out, later that night, that ceiling fan didn't work properly. Room like a sauna. Booked 2 nights in June, stayed one.

Could be good but......

Let's start with the positives. Good central location. Room was small but clean. Price was also reasonable. But. We arrived on a Saturday after a long cross country drive. We had been informed that El Rincon had parking. We found that this was on street parking a minimum of 500 metres away. We also expected a restaurant. On arrival we were told that it was not open on Saturday evening. We were told that the hotel was non smoking. The room had a faint smell of stale smoke. The corridors and reception desk area also reeked. Very unpleasant. Staff too busy smoking to be much help.

Breakfast in the lobby was basic but the coffee was good. And it was well heated which was a treat. The views from the Hostel are also good.
