Ginpachi is a great place to try the famous local style sushi, which is called "shima zushi" (island sushi). It is different from any sushi you have ever tried: the fish is marinated in soy sauce then topped with a Japanese mustard called "nerigarashi". We ordered a sushi set that included some pieces of "Edomae" (Tokyo-style) sushi and, of course, shima zushi (Hachijo-style). We also had a sashimi set and the chawan mushi, always a must-have. Everything was delicious.

I was delighted with the very warm welcome i got from the owner, is wife (she can speak english) and their daughter's friends, who were nice enought to give me free ride bcak to my very remote hotel at night.The food is served in very generous portions and the fish is fresh and well prepared (although i had a few scales remaining in some Tobi-uo sashimi servings). The owner suggested different specialities and offered some tasting.The restaurant is cosy, simple and easy to find. A good address
