Where to eat Seafood food in Willemstad: The Best Restaurants and Bars

March 9, 2020 Weston Hennigan

Reviews on Seafood food in Willemstad, Caribbean. The lively capital of Curacao is a welcoming, upbeat destination with two distinct historic districts divided by the lovely St. Anna Bay. Punda, site of neat, narrow streets, is crammed with shops and museums. Otrobanda, or "The Other Side," is a maze of twisting residential streets, contrasting with the organized grid across the bay. Willemstad's colorful colonial architecture has won it UNESCO Heritage site designations. Diving and swimming with dolphins are popular activities in the bay.

I think this place is probably meant to be a fine dining experience. The ambiance is nice and the menu has dishes with interesting flavors, but compared to other places we ate in Curacao, this restaurant just came in as average. My husband had the grouper and I had the shrimp. Neither of us finished and we didn’t stay for dessert. My margarita was pretty good...different with honey added as a sweetener, which softened the tequila bite. I had two!Thank you for your review. Average is not what we strive for, and we are sorry we did not meet your expectations. Fort Nassau is not exactly real 'fine dining', but more 'casual fine dining'. This might be the reason for your three bullet review. In any case we are glad you left us a review as it is very important to us that our guests expectations are met, but also (marketing wise) that they come in with the 'correct' ones. Thank you.

Traditional creole cuisin with french influences on a high standard. Again a convincing experience. The châteaubriand is now served with a fresh handmade sauce bernaise. The Lobster is offered in two extremly tasty variations: With seafruits in tomatosauce (for the european guests) and with mozzarella (for the american guests). In the tomato version you could omit the mussels without causing harm to the meal. But that is a minimal point of critics.Only the desserts reveals the dutch influence: They are much too sweet after the spoiling meal and could dull the pleasure of sensitive haute cuisiniers.

Karakter is a bit different then other beach restaurants. It’s not a snack bar but a place with a great menu for both lunch and dinner. Friendly service and a nice environment. Off course the prices are a bit steeper then the other beach foodstalls, but for that the food is really lovely (40-50naf/main course)Apparently the best appeltaart on the island. I tried it and it’s good Hi Floris_71,Thank you for your great 5-star review! We are happy to hear you enjoyed your visit and that you have so many good things to say about Karakter. Mostly, we are glad you liked our homemade apple pie, it was made with love! We look forward to serving you again soon!

Our dinner at Kome was delicious. We had a (huge) Ceasar’s salad and the Merguez (goat) sausages as starters and the Pork tenderloin and the pasta as a main. All equally delicious. The ambiance was lively with tables closely spaced together. Luckily our neighbors were very friendly. One point that needs to be improved is the table water. We ordered a bottle of flat and a bottle of sparkling mineral water. However, we were served refilled bottles of purified water. At 9 guilders (about $5) per bottle this is quite outrageous. Moreover, at we noticed that ‘tap’ water for the table next to us, came from the same faucet. The small print on the menu indeed says that Kome chooses to serve filtered water instead of mineral water. This is fine with us, but should then be more clearly stated as you usually order drinks ahead of examining the menu in great detail.Nevertheless, quality of the food comes first and there for a ‘very good rating’ anyway.Dear Dutch_Travel-R,Thank you for the great review, we're happy to hear you had a great night. To quickly reply to the table water, we indeed serve filtered water. Sometimes, when the bar is busy we decide for efficiency's sake to grab the nearest faucet. We feel a 5$ charge for water which is similar to any branded water is a fair price, however, you should not have been charged both the still and sparkling water, that one unfortunately slipped through the cracks. Next time you visit us, please let me know personally and I'll make sure to make it right.Regards,Luuk
