Cozy boutique hotel that is truly wonder(s)ful!

If you are looking for a nice and quiet location to relax this is the place to go. Rooms are spacious, clean and equipped with a fridge, TV, airco and coffee maker but also with travel plugs for our (European) appliances! They are located around a small but beautiful garden where breakfast is served in the morning. Hospitality is outstanding: very friendly and helpful staff, there is a "help yourself" bar and the hotel offers a range of stuff (towels, snorkeling, beach bags etc.) for you to take to the beach (free of charge). We arrived late and were upfront informed that staff would not be present, but Gaston was still there to welcome us! Located outside the city and you probably need a rental car to get to the beach / into the city, but parking is available for free at their premises.

Amazing 6 nights in paradise!

First stay at this property and planning to book, again, for next year! The property is gorgeous and beyond clean - I always saw the staff cleaning and keeping everything looking beautiful! We stayed in room 1 which has the kitchen inside and it was perfect for us. The bathroom was large with 2 sinks and more than enough space in the large bedroom. The hosts are very friendly and accommodating and live on the property which is absolutely beautiful! We also felt very safe at all times - this is a residential area directly across from the Marriott hotel and there is a walking path to cut across right next door. We walked to Palm Beach in 5 min! Highly recommend this property - truly a hidden gem!

A nice 4 night stay but a couple of problems

Reviewed By Harold I

We enjoyed our stay at La Felicidad ( I believe this is the correct name, not Casa La Felicidad) but we had a couple of problems. First the Good. Large room with two double beds at a very reasonable price. Clean and quiet with a very clean pool just outside our door. Great to sit out our door with coffee in the morning or a glass of wine or beer in the evening. Nice kitchen with cooktop, microwave but no oven. A toaster really needs to be added. To stay at this small complex you definitely need a rental car. You need transportation to do just about anything except maybe walk to a small grocery store or very local restaurant. Now for the bad: We read several reviews on Booking.com as well as other locations talking about the helpfulness of the owner and were looking forward to having him help us with things to do and recommendations for restaurants, etc. Imagine our surprise when we pulled up and found a very friendly young man who didn't speak more than one or two words of English telling us that the owner was in Columbia. We were on our own with this young man who, for several hours, could not get his credit card machine to accept our cards even though we had just rented a car with one of them. He did finally get that solved but he was of no help other than providing the necessities during the stay We are seasoned international travelers and don't always expect to find full English speaking service but we didn't expect to find this in the middle of Aruba where just about everyone speaks some English and most speak it as a full secondary language, especially in the hospitality industry. Our second problem might seem petty at the start but believe me it is not. The bath and face towels are torture instruments. We've stayed all over the world from One Star to Five Star locations and we've never seen anything like it. The towels remind you of a Cheese grater! Rough as a dried Corn Cob! They should come with a warning label . . . Hazardous to your Health! La Felicidad needs to buy some new towels and then learn how to launder with some Fabric softener. Bottom line. Ask, and if they haven't been replaced, don't go there or take your own towels! Nice place for a budget stay but take care.

Paradise Found

Amazing travel experience

Reviewed By jsben

My husband and I spent two weeks with Jim and Shawna at their piece of paradise. They are very welcoming and their home is relaxing, beautiful and very clean and comfortable. The day always started with a fresh and delicious breakfast. Jim and Shawna made great recommendations on places to visit and where to eat, they even kayaked us out to the reef out front of the B&B and took us on a couple of hikes to see parts of the island. Everything on the island can be reached from their central location in less than a half an hour by car. We enjoyed snorkelling in front of the B&B and at Mangel Halto, Baby Beach and Arashi Beach. The rugged east shoreline is beautiful and the ruins from the gold smelters were interesting as well. We ate at Marina Pirata, B55, Zeerovers, The Flying Fishbone and got takeout at Young Fellows and a little nearby hut that sold arepas...and would recommend them all. We would highly recommend Paradise Found to anyone who is looking for R&R away from the resorts and is interested in exploring the Happy Island. The sunsets from the B&B are amazing!

Perfect place for couples

We rented the yellow casita, which means small house, and that is exactly what it is, not meant negatively; it is a small version of a real house with everything in it that you need for a nice vacation. The only thing missing in this casita is a kitchenette, but I understand that the other casitas have also a kitchenette. It was not a problem for us, because we stayed only a few days. There is a fridge so you still can make your breakfast if you want. The location was great for us. It is next to the donkey sanctuary and we liked that very much. When we went outside we had always some donkeys in view and we fed them the breakfast leftovers and we bought some vegetables for them. No noises at night that woke us up as is suggested in another post. It is in the middle of nowhere and that makes it a nice quiet place. And Aruba is small so distance is not really a problem if you have a car. We will certainly book there again if we need a place to stay for another occasion.

City Hotel

Basic but Works

Reviewed By Wordtech

The City Hotel has a lobby and a 24-hour front desk. Other than that, it's just a collection of rooms. No services. No daily maid service, although the cleaner did catch me in the hall and asked me if I needed anything. Twice we emptied my garbage. She was very nice. No English. The hotel has cold water coolers for everyone to use. In Aruba, you can drink the water from the tap, which is a real bonus. The water tastes good too. The two younger guys who seem to run the front desk are very nice and speak excellent English. Two different older guys seem to hang around later in the day and the evening. The room is basic. I've paid less for a better appointed Motel 6 room. During my week stay, I saw a few rooms through open doorways; they all seemed like mine. My room had a bed: very comfortable with a very comfortable pillow; a night table; an armoire with one low shelf but no rung and no hangers; a refrigerator. no chair. No chest of drawers, so your clothes sort of end up all over the place. The window was too high to see out of, making the room bright but confining. The TV only had programming in Spanish, although you can catch the odd American movie with Spanish subtitles splashed across the screen. I caught the 1998 version of Titanic. I turned off the sound so I could see the action without having to listen to the constant drivel from Jack and Rose. Having said all that, the hotel is spotlessly clean. I didn't see one bug of any kind, which is something to say when you're in the tropics. It's safe and quiet. There's a large grocery store on the next block. Keep in mind that Aruba has banned plastic bags so bring your own or expect to be shown a pile of cardboard boxes (shades of the future). The hotel is at the end of the city's main shopping street that leads to the busy downtown area, which is about 10 minutes away. You can also walk to Surfside Beach in about 15 minutes; the beach is very nice but offers no services. I paid about CAD 110 a night. Way overpriced. I would not stay there again or recommend it. Better to try Airbnb.

Uncomfortable situation, loud construction late at night.

Reviewed By Lauren S

When we arrived no one greeted us. The manager was in his office with other guests, but there were other guys working there that just stared at us. It was like they were trying to intimidate us. Sitting in the lobby, we heard other guests saying they were overbooked. When the manager let us in to his office 10 minutes or so later, he told us that the 2 bed room we booked was unavailable. He only had a room with a single bed. Not a problem, but the price should be lowered. By the way, his office was much nicer than our room. We went to our room, took a nap, and left to go to dinner. On our way back that night, our cab driver told us that Hotel California used to be a brothel. We got back around 9pm and the workers were still renovating a room right next to our room! It was so loud! They were using a buzzsaw and sweeping up what sounded like ceramic or brick pieces. It was so loud. When the buzzsaw was still going off at 10pm, we heard the guy in the hotel room next to us come out and talk to the workers. He said “it’s a little late for that, don’t you think?” And went back to his room. They continued with the loud sawing and sweeping! It went on until like 11:30! This was right next to our room. I get doing construction during the day. But well into the night when the hotel is fully booked? Not cool. We had booked for two nights. The next morning, we wanted to talk to the manager about lowering our rate since he gave us a smaller room than we paid for. The cleaning woman told us he should be back in 10 minutes. We waited for close to a half hour and he never came. We gave a cleaning woman our room key and found another hotel. I want to wipe this experience from my mind.
