This place is on the first floor of a residential building, so they don't serve alcohol. The interior is very nicely done. Primarily a European restaurant, they do offer Russian dishes and Eastern pastries. They also offer young horse and reindeer.I had the striploin steak from reindeer. I ordered it rare, and it came more medium rare, but I usually order rare hoping to get something not cooked past medium. Yakutians typically will over cook all meat unless requested otherwise. My steak came with a wild berry sauce that was very delicious and complimented the venison very nicely. I had steamed rice as a side dish, which was nothing special. I went at 6:30 pm on a Thursday night, and I was the only customer, but it seems some folks were coming just as I was leaving. It is a nice place, but a little off the beaten path.

The interior of the place is pretty nice. The service staff are good. They offer a business lunch menu that is changed regularly and is democratically priced and reasonably good. The food is typical Russian cuisine. They offer some Yakutian dishes as well, but this is meant to be a Cossack place, so you will find more Russian dishes.

Overall great place to visit once in a while, was slightly discouraged by the speed of service it seems it's all up to how you dressed up. However the food was amazing, with a very limited selection though. I hope this review will encourage further development of a restaurant and improve service overall.

I was staying several nights in Yakutsk and decided to try a different restaurant after a very positive experience at the lovely Khachapure the previous evening. Kare proved to be a very different place and an altogether unpleasant experience. The restaurant was probably around half full when I arrived and they were somewhat reluctantly showed me to a table. A Russian language menu with no English and no pictures arrived some time later. When the waitress stopped by to take my order I tried to ask if there was an English language menu or if anyone on staff spoke a little English. With that she turned her back and walked away and didn't come back. Initially I assumed that she was going to fetch someone else or even that she was asking what to do with this foreigner but then noticed that she was taking orders from other tables including some that had arrived after me. I kept trying to get her or one of the other staff to come to my table but they studiously ignored me even turning their backs after catching my eye. It was really awful and after around 15 minutes of sitting unattended and unable to engage anyone I left and went back to Khachapuri where the staff were cheerful and helpful and the food was once again delicious. Foreign visitors to Yakutsk are warned NOT to waste their time trying to get service at Kare restaurant.

The idea of a restaurant made to look like a home always appeals to me. This restauant in Yakutsk has succeeded in creating an enjoyable and atmospheric environment. We stopped here for a light lunch after visiting the kingdom of permafrost. Nice place with lovely decorations, okay food, the fish soup was a bit weird, the rest was good. Friendly staff.
