Muus Khaia

The interior is quite pleasant and comfortable. There are several banquet halls, and both banquets and walk-in guests can be quite easily served. The service is quite good. I have been to Muus Khaia on many different occasions in the past, and I could always count on getting an acceptable meal, but nothing memorable. Things have changed. The food is now really outstanding. The chef uses local traditional ingredients, but has developed dishes that really bring out the best of these ingredients. The meal I had this evening ranks with the best meals I have ever had ever, in any part of the world. Muus Khaia is currently offering a world class dining experience, and yet the prices are still quite reasonable and the portions are quite adequate.

Helpful staff. Interesting local Yakutsia dishes including fermented cow's milk, frozen fish, and horse meat for the adventurous. A few km out of town, near the Kingdom of Permafrost, 300 rouble taxi trip, but we'll worth it.

We stayed in this hotel for three nights and twice had dinner in its restaurant. Our meals had plenty of local flavour with dishes based on fish, pork, beef or horse meat (served piping hot in a clay bowl) with plenty of fresh berries and cream for afters. The menu is at least partially translated into English, which is helpful. Don't miss trying the starters of dice-sized cubes of frozen white fish with onions and herbs. You pop them into your mouth and feel the ice gradually melt into a fishy mass that has a pleasant taste. Unusual. Our breakfasts were fine: self-service from a wide selection of cooked and raw items.

The place has an upstairs and first floor dining area. You can order off the menu up stairs. Downstairs is cafeteria style. The interior is nice enough and clean enough. The food was never so authentic even when they first opened, but it has since been adapted to Yakutian tastes. There are many better places to have Chinese food.

Bon Ami has several spots around town, but the original location is on Yaroslavskogo. Bon Ami produces some of the best bakery goods in Yakutsk. However, they offer more than just baked goods in their café on Yaroslavskogo. The place is not big, so they can get full at lunch time. The décor is very inviting, and although there are no real windows, they have disquised this fact well and the place feel light and airy. The menu is not extensive, but what they have is very good.

The decor is very nice and the service is excellent. I would not say that the Korean dishes are so authentic, and the range is quite limited. They also have Chinese dishes which have also been modified somewhat for Yakutian tastes and ingredients. The sushi is also a local interpretation. With all that being said, the place is nice and the food that they have is reasonably good. Not a cheap place, but not horribly expensive either. They do serve alcohol.

I had a Caesar salad, a beef bruschetta, and a cucumber lemonade. When I order a Caesar salad, I am not looking for an unusual interpretation of what might be considered a Caesar salad. I am looking for a standard Caesar salad. That is what I got. I was happy.
The beef bruschetta was something more original and creative. It came with a lingonberry sauce that was quite good. The roast beef was tender and actually had been seasoned a little bit, which is a little unusual in Yakutsk. The bruschetta was very hard and tough to cut.
My cucumber lemonade had cucumber seeds that plugged the straw - they have a wider diameter straw available, so why do they put the thinnest straw in a drink with seeds that can't get past the bendy part? It was my first experience with a cucumber lemonade, so I have nothing for comparison, but I would have thought more cucumber flavor would have been there. I don't think they used a lot of cucumber in making the drink.

My new boss and colleagues took me here for lunch and I had traditional Yakutian cuisine for the first time. I thought the food was absolutely delicious and well presented. We tried 5 dishes, including stroganina, and I was very happy with the selections made. The wait staff seemed efficient and attentive and for sure I loved the decor. I have no idea what the prices are like since I didn't pay so I can't comment on that. However, for the rest of the experience, I was beyond pleased!
