薩摩川内市にある唯一のデパート川内山形屋の５Ｆにある食堂です。鹿児島市内の山形屋のレストラン、鹿児島空港内のレストランの系譜にある食堂として、そこそこ美味しい食事を摂ることができます。焼きそば、チャンポンといった定番の麺類も安定した味を維持しています。夕方までの営業ですので、主として昼食やアイドルタイムの軽食利用として重宝なお店です。

ＪＲ川内駅から徒歩１０分足らずの郵便局の裏手にあるお寿司屋さんです。寿司会席を頂戴しました。お刺身、焼物、煮物、酢の物、椀物、揚物、茶碗蒸し、そして締めの握り寿司。どれも地元の食材を中心に料理されています。お刺身は地元で水揚げされた鮪で、日頃冷凍マグロを頂戴している者としては、そのもっちり感に感激でした。

ＪＲ上川内駅から歩いて１０分ほどのところにあるラーメン屋さんです。薩摩川内市のＢ級グルメと言われる「きびなごラーメン」が頂戴できます。豚骨スープをベースに蒸したキビナゴから作ったペーストをいれたスープが独特の旨みと香りを提供してくれます。細めの麺が、このスープとうまく絡まって、すーっと喉を過ぎていきます。あっさりと戴ける逸品です。

おれんじ鉄道の上川内駅から歩いて１５分足らずのところにある薩摩黒豚を使用した豚カツ屋さんです。からっと揚がった中はジューシーな美味しい豚カツを頂戴することができます。黒豚とんかつ定食、絶品です。

One of the most surprising and delicious dishes I have had in Japan can be found here and it is called "Ebi Mayo," which can be translated as "Mayonnaise Shrimp." It's hard to stop with just one plate. Wash it down with a Kirin or some Shouchu and enjoy the high-energy setting.

川内駅の真正面にある活魚料理の専門店ですが、夜は川内原発関連の業者さんで賑わっています。ヤリイカの生き作りに刺身盛り合わせ、アラカブの唐揚げ、大きな鰤のカマ焼きにハタの煮付けなど魚料理メインで焼酎を頂きました。鮮度が良いので所謂角の立つお刺身を食べる事が出来ます。お酒を飲まない社長さんも、ここなら美味い魚があるので安心して訪れることが出来ると太鼓判でした。

はるばるこの離島に来た価値があるのを認識できるお店です。最近は島で鮪の養殖がおこなわれており、赤身、中トロ、大トロと美味しく頂戴できます。キビナゴ、ブリ、鯛も絶品です。アラのカマ焼きもしっかりと脂が乗っていて、口の中に入れるやとろけていきます。焼酎もついつい進んで、店を出る頃には、お腹を付き出してよちよち歩きとなり、まるで皇帝ペンギンの様相となりました。
