January 15, 2020 Marissa Gamble

Find out what International restaurants to try in San Juan. The festive city of San Juan is the perfect place to experience true Puerto Rican culture. Get to know its roots by exploring the vibrant neighborhood of El Viejo San Juan (Old San Juan), which consists mostly of Spanish colonial buildings. Flesh out your self-guided history lesson with a visit to El Castillo San Felipe del Morro, a 16th century citadel that’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then reward yourself with a cooling dip at Luquillo or Carolina Beach, then a tasty tour of the Bacardi rum plant.

When in the Condado area, we used to call on Cocina Abierta for its tapas and great ambiance at the bar and in the dining room. Even at the outisde tables. this time we found a huge generator being used by a neighbor making loud noise that was unbearable. Inside it was not as before. Many empty tables on a Saturday night. We ordered empanadillas which were okay; roots dish which was good: and the gnocchi ricotta which was our favorite, this time they tasted different and not good. The owners are known for excellent food at a near by restaurant, Nonna, and they should pay attention to Cocina Abierta, re-invent it with new menu with high quality dishes, new drinks and perhaps some music to attract people. There is no reason why it cannot be even better than what it was before.

Our wedding anniversary was culminated by owner Silma ‘s support. My mother in law hails from Louisiana with French ancestry migrating from Southern France. Trois Cent Onze prepared a complete regional gourmet dinner: exquisite soup, salad, three-course entrees, and a golden medalled dessert. Above average wine selection, great ambiance, unblemished service. You can’t go wrong here.

My Chipotle chicken bowl with beans and rice was amazing. The chicken was delicious, the avocado was perfectly ripe and the rice and beans perfectly balanced it all out. The greens were crisp and the cilantro lime dressing was divine. Nice people and great prices. Way better than the big chains who make bowls.

arrived for a late brunch after we saw they had vegetarian options on the menu at the window. we loved the toy train delivering our food! we weren't expecting it! we had the fruit bowl, which was just some strawberries, blueberries, cantaloupe, banana, & walnuts. the eggplant sandwich, which was huge! and the falafel gyro with fries. the place was quite full, still the staff managed to work pretty efficiently. food was served quickly. had a frappe, which tasted like fruit syrup (not real fruits), and the juice wasn't natural either. overall, it was a good experience and they had a good amount of vegetarian options (hummus, eggplant sandwich, falafel gyro, pancakes, french toasts, fruit bowls, etc
