This is in the cellar of the castle and it was cool to eat in a castle. The food was only okay. The schnitzel was a bit dry. Another dish tasted too much of red peppers. The potato salad was good. The waiter was nice but very busy.

Found this restaurant on trip advisor. A modern style restaurant with lovely Old World views. Started with carpaccio and soup - both were delicious. The carpaccio was a generous full plate portion of fresh tasting slices of beef. We also sampled the salads which were also fresh made with simple dressing as requested. Service was attentive and friendly. God spot for lunch if you are enroute to Zurich or Lichtenstein.

We walked the ridge line for a couple of hours to get to this restaurant after a gondola ride up from Frümsen. Lots of up and down on a beautiful day in July. The path is well-kept...and when we finally got to our end point, we ate at this lovely restaurant. It revolves, giving you a fabulous 360º view of Switzerland, Lichtenstein, and (maybe) Austria. I had the vegetarian plate (a wide selection of excellently cooked vegetables) and a side of their specialty, Appenzellen-style macaroni and cheese (very stinky cheese that is not for amateurs!). My wife had the beer-marinated beef. Both were excellent. My French fries were a bit too salty for my taste...but I suspect many patrons would prefer them that way. The Appenzellen beer (quöllfrisch) was great. Cost: about $35/person, which included a smallish tip by American standards. It's important to make Reservations if you can. Oh...the gondola ride down is pretty wonderful, too.

A beautifully renovated old house with stunning decor especially at Christmas. Attentive friendly staff and excellent door. Had smoked salmon with lamb's Lettice plus a delicious dressing. Then sea bass with a delicate sauce and vegetables. Will go again and recommend to friends.

The food here is delicious, well presented and fairly priced. This is a large portion restaurant (which suits me perfectly). Although a large one-room restaurant the atmosphere is friendly and cosy. The service was great despite the restaurant being rather full. A bonus for me was receiving food which was imaginatively presented and piping hot - I hate lukewarm food. Nice, polite staff serving with a smile - always a plus.

Paul’s is a lovely restaurant hidden in an unlikely section of an industrial zone in Widnau. If you’re not familiar with the area, you’ll need a navigational system or good instructions to find it. There is plenty of free parking next to the restaurant and the new Paul’s Hotel, which however is despite its name is not related to the restaurant.
There is a lovely garden where you can sit outside in clement weather. Inside, the decoration is in warm, friendly, neutral tones. Our waitresses were quite friendly.
We had a beautifully created salad, beef filet, and lamb, as well as a small bottle of wine. For dessert we chose various sorbets, each one better than the last. All of the food was delicious and attractively served.
We have one major complaint: we had to wait unusually long for our food. It took at least 30 minutes to get the salad (fortunately there were some bread and dips to nibble on beforehand), another 30 or so for the main courses, and we didn’t get dessert until 40 minutes after having ordered it. This despite the restaurant being only about ¾ full.
Even though our table was well inside and toward the back, mosquitoes sensed my presence and I was bitten at least ten times on the legs. Note to self: next time wear trousers and socks!
Despite the long wait we would be willing to return to Paul’s and give them another chance, as the rest of the dining experience was top-notch and worthy of five stars.

Who would believe such a good cook hid in Gais, Appenzell (15 Gault&Millau)? Try it when you’re around and you’ll discover, for instance, outstanding and delicate raviolis - matchin the best you can find in Italy. Desserts are exquisite and the wine list impressive.
Nevertheless, all meals are not that excellent...the duck was ordinary.

I went to this place with some business colleagues. The restaurant is in a building which has a room which was built some 400 years ago. The people in the restaurant are very nice and involved in the whole process. The minute you order your food you get a dish from the kitchen which compliments from the kitchen.
We had red wine and I had the lamb here which was too good. I also had the salad which was very nice. In the end they served us with house made chocolates all of which was very good.
If you happen to be in this part of the world, this is a must place to go!!

Came here with a few friends for lunch. Love that typical Swiss 19 century ambiance of this restaurant. price-service level is great! You get really amazing lunch menues for fair prices between 20 and 40 CHF. i had a delicious aspargus soup ( amazing!) and a fitnessteller with pork schnitzel (also amazing) . eventhough they forgot to bring me the salad dressing ( they put you a selection of two dressing on the table - you can choose or take both) i still give them 5 stars. Altogether i was really excited and enjoyed! For sure i will come back!

Great service, good prices, autentic italian food and excellent coffee. Pizza to go is also available. I can highly recommend it.
