We went there with my 11yrs old son who loves caves and crystals.
We followed the signs on the street and ended on a small parking space in the middle of nowhere but thanks to the sign showing the way to the cave we knew we are at the right place.
You have to walk 15-20min up the hill to get to the cave, but you cant miss it and it s worth the little hike. If you want to go here, please check the opening times on the website first.
Once arrived we payed the very resonable entry prices and waited for the next tour to start. You are not allowed in without a guide. It was very special and it s really a cave, so you have to watch your head and your steps! Visitors can walk for about 130m in the cave, doesnt sound like a lot but it was enough for me. You see lots of crystals and little seas from the water. It s a very special feeling and especially my son loved it.
I am not sure if they speak english, but they speak swiss german and normal german, which was fine for us. If you need an english speaking guide maybe check first.
The tour of the cave takes around 30min and its quite cold inside. They told us its all year around 8°C so better bring a jacket.
Outside of the cave they sell crystalls and you can also buy something to drink if needed.
It was a really nice trip, and the cave was really special to see!

It might not be a major tourist attraction but if you're in the area it's definitely a good place to visit. After a few days of rest and relaxation in the Mountains around Feldkirch, we wanted something to do and this was great. Not that easy to get to, but lovely to walk around and see all the animals :)

This is one of the more remote, lesser known mountain locations in Switzerland, resulting in a much less crowded environment and more reasonable prices. The visitors that come here are predominantly local Swiss or from the adjacent countries: Austria, Germany and Liechtenstein. You can take public transportation (train/bus combination) to Brülisau or, as we did, drive there by car. If you are lucky and get here on a really clear day, the view is fantastic: on one side you look over to the Säntis Massiv and the small Säntis Lake framed by high ridges. On the other side, you have a direct view down steep cliffs to the Rhein Valley and Lake Constance in the distance, as well as the hills and towns of Germany, Austria and the Principality of Liechtenstein.
You access this mountain by a cable car/gondola from Brülisau in the canton Inner-Appenzell, unless of course you decide to hike up to the top, which you can do both from the Rhein Valley or from Brülisau.
On top of the mountain, you can do a short stroll around the peak area, Unfortunately, this peak-walk is relatively short, but you can extend the experience by either walking down back to Brülisau or, as we did, do at least a short hike on that path and then return to the peak for the trip down in the Gondola. There is a very modern, comfortable and relatively reasonably priced (for Switzerland) revolving restaurant on the top in which we had a good meal (see separate post).
This mountain is well worth visiting, and so is the enchanting surrounding area of Appenzell with its charming villages and style of houses and farms - one of our favorite areas in Switzerland. Do not miss to taste a bite of the "Appenzeller Cheese" from the area.

Frühmorgens mit Sonnenaufgang am schönsten. Dann kan man Rehe und Hasen beobachten. Viele versch. Vögel, darunter auch Störche. Der Rundweg führt an allen Sehenswürdigkeiten vorbei durch das Riet bzw. das Moor. Siehe Homepage des Vereins Pro Riet! Ein Highlight ist auch, dass man in einem Stahlkubus unter die Wasseroberfläche gelangt und so versteckt über die Wasserfläche blickend die Tiere bestens beobachten kann....

Great little train for getting out and about into the countryside. Runs every 30 minutes, stops many times all along the way, but good connecting transportation and scenic views of Appenzeller land. We took it to Wasseraun to connect with cable car to Ebenalp. Also connects to Santis and Kronberg, or just to various walking paths. Free with 3 night hotel stay.

A peaceful and much underrated region of Switzerland, Appenzell is one of my favourites. This lake is 50-60 minutes walk from Wasserauen railway station, and although it's a road all the way up (there is a second Alpine trail which is harder), it's still very steep and you'll need to stop to catch your breath at times.
The lake itself is small so doesn't take long to walk around, and from here you can continue hiking in two other directions, a killer route up to Säntis, or across and up steeply back to Ebenalp. There is a restaurant and small chapel by the lake, as well as a small forested walking area.
Highly recommend coming up for the clear air, peace and quiet away from tourists, who seem uninterested in this lovely mountainous region.

This was different from other Jewish Holocaust kinds of museums because it told a narrative of Jews who lived there for hundreds of years through relics and letters and audio visual accounts. The families who kept traditions, assimilated, and made a difference in the town and throughout the world. Whatever they achieved or believed did not matter for the community as the Jews were banned and returned until few Jews were left in the town during the Nazi's and the retentive burgermeister thought a few were too many. The museum was the home of an elderly and respected Jew who was sent to her death and most villagers were unaffected of the deportation as it was an area of Nazi supporters. You could walk to the Swiss Bridge where many Jews tried to escape from Austria.

The monument itself is just a lowish pillar beside the road with a metal plaque on top, but the point isn't the monument itself. The point's what the monument commemorates - an extraordinary episode near the end of the second world war when some 500 Russian soldiers arrived in Liechtenstein and, notwithstanding Stalin's demands that they be repatriated, were given asylum.
After seeing the monument you can have a meal or a drink at the Wirtschaft zum Löwen (or Lion Tavern) just behind it. This was where the Russians first turned up (as I was told, at three o'clock in the morning!), and where initial negotiations took place.
(If you do mean to go to the Löwen, it may be wise to ring up and check it'll be open that day. (Tel +423 373 11 62.) When I went it was their day off, but according to the bus driver it's known for its excellent Käsknöpfle. Also its wine.
The monument's at the end of the bus line. It's where buses turn round to go back to Vaduz.

weg von der Hauptstrasse , im Grünen , mit Sanitären Anlagen ausgerüstet findet man diese Oase der Ruhe. Mit viel Engagement hat die Familie Frei diese kleine Kappelle wieder aufbauen lassen und bietet jedem Gast die Möglichkeit sich in Musse für ein paar Minuten und Gedanken zurück zu ziehen. Man kann im Anschluss an das Gebet auch die Umgebung in Stille erkunden. Mir hat die Besinnlichkeit gut getan und schon so manchen Gedankenknoten gelöst. Danke Ruth und Martin Frei für dieses Geschenk.
