Tonys place

Reviewed By Kwanchangfarang - Chiang Rai, Thailand

We found this from other reviews and followed the GPS to get here because we fancied Western food having had rural for lunch.
I guess, on the upside, the meat was tender and properly cooked, this doesn't always happen in similar restaurants.
On the downside the pizzas were not good & were not as advertised. There have been times in my life when a craving for foreign food when living in rural Asia has made this sort of fare the thing of dreams but, honestly, if you are travelling I suggest you live off Thai food for one or two more days and head back to a centre where foreign food is done well - there are good pizza places in Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai even the Golden Triangle, you can hold out for a day or two more!
Mainly, though (& to prove I'm not being snobbish about the food) the air conditioned area into which we were shuffled was stained and dirty, betel (I hope - if not blood) on the walls, split and stained PvC sofa and the ubiquitous Thai soaps on an old TV echoing in the corner.
In the end it was not an unpleasant experience, just not one you need to bother having on holiday - especially when there are other restaurants in town.

Poom 3 Nan

Reviewed By Charn P - Bangkok, Thailand

Pum 3 Nan is rather ordinary from the look from the outside. The restaurant is composed of several row houses with nothing outstanding from its decoration. However the key feature or star is the Chef Uthai that popularize his ' Massaman in Can' through national T.V. The restaurant also offers other dishes in their menu. We found to enjoy their variety of dishes more than the popular Massaman. Worth a visit if you are in Nan.

It's a nice restaurant in a central spot in Nan. They have a lot of dishes on their meny and I have been here 7-8 times. Rather expensive for being in this small city. This time I had their local dish pork in garlic. The taste was very good

Hot Bread

If you crave for some "foreign"food whilst in Nan,head for Hot Bread. It is a no frills small restaurant with limited Seating (12-16 seats). The menu offers many choices including breakfast sets of pancakes, meat "lovers",Lincolnshire sausages and Vietnamese.I opted for ala carte and ordered the spaghetti with meat sauce,It was one of the best spaghetti dish I have tasted in Thailand. As this is a small restaurant and food is prepared by only one cook,be prepared to wait. When I ordered my spaghetti the waitress advise that waiting time for the food was 30 minutes. It was worth the while waiting when the dish finally arrived. The restaurant also sells home made whole wheat bread loaf and other cookies.I had a piece of mixed fruit scone and it was yummy.Prices are very reasonable and the staff were friendly and helpful.I will revisit this restaurant on my next visit to Nan

Khao Soi Ton Nam

Reviewed By Charn P - Bangkok, Thailand

We tried Khao Soi in many places throughout the country. We can say Khao Soi Ton Nam in Nan is one of the very exceptional one. Normally Khao Soi needs Kati or coconut milk in its soup. The low density in Kati and still enable to dish to taste good is a chef-secret. Khao Soi Ton Nam has their secret. A small shop near the Golden Intersection of Nan next to the Min Mueng Temple make this place a must visit if you happened to be in the area. The Khao Soi came in either chicken or beef and few other exotic dishes.

They capture a distance of the riverfront which is a very nice addition to the delicious local food. Try local fish & vegetables curry (Kaeng-som pla kang). The usual famous fried chicken with"Ma-Kwaen" the local herb.
Larb Pla Chao Nang, the specialty spicy fish with local herb.
Staff is all very friendly. We bought "ants eggs" from local wet market and asked them to fry then with eggs. Very delicious!

Nan Steakhouse

Reviewed By Amanda H - Nan Province, Thailand

I love visiting the Nan river steakhouse during boat racing season (August-October) because you can watch the boat racing practice while you eat your meal.
Food is pretty good. The steak is Thai steak, meaning it will be chewy and thin. Mashed potatoes are amazing (and full of garlic). Pizza is very good.

Sweety 9

Reviewed By Chattan_k - Bangkok

Sweety 9 is located at one of Nan's main intersections, near markets, the river and a number of important tourist attractions. The wood-heavy decor is so retro and very inviting. You look at it and you reminisce about your childhood days when coffee shops like these were much simpler affairs.
Unfortunately, it seemed that service here included going back in time to get what you order. My cocoa frappe took nearly 25 minutes to arrive, and the place was not even half full. There was no discernible order system behind the counter run by three ladies. If you come here, you cannot be in a hurry to go somewhere else.
In all honesty, every Nan restaurant I went to took the slow life concept too literally. Sweety 9 was the champion, I think. The cocoa frappe was just average and did not warrant all that wait. Service was unsmiling and frenetic. The only plus I found for the place was its superb location. Next time I would go in a 7311 for a drink.
